Do we ever find out what happened to Groo? Or was Season 3 the last we hear of him?

I think he over stayed his welcome as it was.

I don't like what he did to the characters around him. I never saw enough of a reason for Cordy to love him.

Eh, that was just because of the bad writing in some of those episodes, not because of Groo.

Oh, I'm sure there was a reason...

But didn't some of the bad writing involve him? Didn't like the love triangle with him, Angel and Cordy. Cordy had moved on from Groo by then, no reason for her to fall back into his arms. And they over telegraphed the whole Angel being jealousy of him IMO.

Well, that's the bad writing, not the character. I mean, love triangles almost ALWAYS suck. I didn't like the Wes-Fred-Gunn triangle either, but I don't hate those characters because of it.

    I thought it was entertaining...

Bits of it were entertaining. But I hate it when they do a stop-gap storyline when it is obvious that the character is not going to stick around long term. It makes me less invested in it. I never for one minute believed that Cordy was going to be with Groo long term. It was just a cheap stop-gap storyline to create tension between Angel and Cordy.

Yeah, that storyline was flawed. Still, Groo himself was only used for comic relief most of the time, and that comic relief was almost always good.

Wasn't Gru essentially a male version of Anya give or take?

It also doesn't help that Cangel wasn't exactly a well-loved pairing. Basically Groo was stuck in the middle of a bad storyline and because of that, the blame is often pinned on him instead of Angel or Cordelia since they'd been around longer.

They definitely had similarities. Both had a similiar "fish out of water" existence, because they didn't come from our human world. I think the difference is that Gru was naively idealistic, whereas Anya was naively cynical.

Imagine if Anya and Groo got together, what would be the name for that? Anyoo?

Never thought about Anya and Groo as being similar but I can kind of see it now. There's much more to Anya's character though and EC's performance is much better too.
