I just finished ATF (which I loved BTW!), and am wondering how to proceed with the rest of the IDW series. It's confusing since there are main series and lots of spinoffs and some one-shots. Wikipedia has them listed like this: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel:_After_the_Fall"]Angel: After the Fall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Angel_After_The_Fall_Issue1.jpg" class="image"><img alt="Angel After The Fall Issue1.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d9/Angel_After_The_Fall_Issue1.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/d/d9/Angel_After_The_Fall_Issue1.jpg[/ame]. But I'm kind of a stickler when it comes to chronological order. Should I read them as the link lists them, or by publication date?

Ooh just found this post, very helpful: http://patrickshand.blogspot.com/2011/05/idws-angel-reading-order.html. Answered my own question.

caritas08: I loved After the Fall. Haven't gotten around to the others.

Hey, Vish. This is how I would recommend reading them. IDW's arcs actually lend themselves to reading by collection, so it should be pretty easy. Aftermath is the absolute weakest arc in the entire thing, but even with his flaws, Willingham's Immortality for Dummies and first half of the Crown Prince Syndrome really set the ball rolling for the great note that IDW ends the series on. This leads quite nicely into Buffy Season 8.

    Hope this helps!

Angel: After the Fall, Vol 1
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 2 - First Night
    Spike: After the Fall
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 3
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 4
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 5 - Aftermath
Angel: Vol 6 - Last Angel in Hell
    Angel: Only Human
Angel: Special - Lorne (might be hard to find; you'll probably have to look at back issues in a comic shop for this, but worth it!)
Angel: Vol 1 - Immortality for Dummies
    Spike: The Devil You Know
Angel: Vol 2 - The Crown Prince Syndrome
    Angel: Illyria - Haunted
Spike: Vol 1 - Alone Together Now
Angel: Vol 3 - The Wolf, the Ram, and the Hart
Spike: Vol 2 - [untitled] (August 31 release)
Angel: Yearbook (again, comic shop, but the very last deluxe issue of IDW's stellar run; great stories in this one including a touching Wesley-Fred piece)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 1 - The Long Road Home
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 2 - No Future for You
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 3 - Wolves at the Gate
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 4 - Time of Your Life
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 5 - Predators and Prey
[read the first Tales of the Vampires: Season 8 issue here]
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 6 - Retreat
[read the second Tales of the Vampires: Season 8 issue here]
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 7 - Twilight (read the Willow one-shot at the end first)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 8 - The Last Gleaming (read the Riley one-shot at the end first)

I hope you'll decide to read the pre-After the fall IDW comics as well. Some are quite good.

Also, check out this volume that collects the last three HC volumes and the Angel:Yearbook. Might save you some money and space. However, there could be bonus material in the other volumes that aren't collected in this one. http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/Angel-The-End-HC___392968

If you don't want to purchase all these check your local library. I've read some of them that way, but my local library doesn't have much so I requested interlibrary loans for them.

How much of this list is considered canon?

Depends who you ask. Joss has only called Angel After the fall and Season 8 canon(I assume he would easily say the same about season 9, and season 8&9 one shots). The rest is up to debate. There are many arguments for what makes specific comics canon, if you'd like to hear them. For example, the last Lynch's last Spike series of 8 issues is by many considered canon, simply because Darkhorse and Lynch worked togetheron it(Lynch doing most, if not all of the work, if I understood it correctly. Maybe DH just gave them permission to use Willow, I'm not sure.) and it's meant to led up to certain season 8 events.

I read so many bad reviews regarding Aftermath that I skipped it. I happened to read After the Fall before Season 8 but didn't know that was the correct order. Kind of makes me want to read it all over again. Thank you for this list it inspires me to do a re-read. Is it worth catching Aftermath this time? Or is it really just a throwaway like I heard?

I enjoyed most of the IDW comics immensely. They are the first comics I ever read so there was a bit of a comic-book-reading learning curve. Some of the artwork is so beautiful too, I want to rip pages out and have them framed. I've only gotten up to The Crown Prince Syndrome and Spike: Alone Together Now before I got confused about what comes next and just started ordering BS8. So I guess I've got a few IDW comics to catch up on but it will make the 2-3 weeks I have to wait till my next A&F or BS9 comes in the mail :)

Personally, I did not like Aftermath. I thought it was crap. The storyline & the writing was terrible, the art was ok. Except for the crotch shots. Oh dear god, the crotch shots! I pretty much liked everything else though. Well, I haven't finished the IDW run yet because the library didn't have the rest and I'm trying to find them cheap(er) online. I really wish IDW had the series available digitally.

Some like Aftermath, some don't. Give it a try. It has a nice season 1 feel to it.

Read the spike series before season 8, or atleast before the two last season 8 arcs, because they're "connected".

The whole series?! Ooh, going to check it out now.

---------- Post added at 10:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 AM ----------

OK, they do have the latest Spike series, but I can get it cheaper on Ebay or used on Amazon. They don't have The Wolf, The Ram, & The Heart. They also don't have the Angel Yearbook or the Lorne Special. Those are the only ones I haven't read yet. So I guess I just really need to purchase them. Trying to sell some stuff to get some Pay Pal. :D

Skytteflickan88: Any chance a local library can't get them for you?

Just wanted to say I saw the first volume available for some kindle devices on amazon.com and co.uk I tried reading a sample on my android tablet. I couldn't zoom, but I think the extras were included, which would be cool.

    Thank you!

Just had surgery & have been sucking up all the ATF, BtVS seasons 8 & 9, and Angel & Faith. The more I delved into IDW's AtF, the more confused I got! Been reading them digitally (they actually look pretty amazing on an iPad Air) so I'd download something, then what seemed like the next logical choice only to start reading and realize hmm...seem to have missed a bunch of stuff here  so again, thanks to all who did this! Realize this what done a long time ago, but hope someone hears my shout out - just made recuperation more fun than the cool pain Meds :p
