This week we are asking the burning questions of @Carrie Hopewell. Here are a few questions to start things off:

    1. How (and why) did you find BB? What were your first thoughts about it?
    2. What was it about Buffy that made you fall in love with the show?
    3. Who is your favorite Whedonverse character?
    4. Coffee or tea?
    5. What movie do you watch when you're sick?

Everyone please feel free to post your own questions throughout the week! :)

YAY! Let's do this! Bring on the questions! Don't be afraid to be a little intrusive ;) (I feel like making a dirty joke right now...)

    1. How (and why) did you find BB? What were your first thoughts about it?
I found it googling something Buffy related. I didn't think much of it. Even when I joined, I only did it to say my piece. I was kind of sucked in though. I think I stayed because of the wonderful people and then really started to appreciate how great this whole place is :)

    2. What was it about Buffy that made you fall in love with the show?

Well, I think my crush on Angel had a lot to do with it! But initially, it was probably the humor and the cozy, intimate atmosphere. I started watching Buffy in season 1 and kind of fell in love with the Scoobies and their bond. I liked the library, stuffy Giles and watching a bunch of teenagers casually save the world (kind of) everyday. I was really comforted by the intimacy of season 1. Their world is very small at that point and it feels closer to you than other seasons do.

    3. Who is your favorite Whedonverse character?

Surprising no one, Angel! At this point, even I'm tired of listening to myself talking about him so I'll just skip my usual "list of things I love about Angel" (spoiler alert, it's a long list!). I'll just leave this instead...

    4. Coffee or tea?

Coffee! I only drink tea if I'm sick but I drink coffee all the time!

    5. What movie do you watch when you're sick?
I haven't been watching a lot of movies lately, but perhaps The Matrix? It's a classic and one of my favorite movies. It's also packed with action to keep your spirits up!

    2. What is the most sexy of all the body parts?:D

    3. If you created your own comic book what genre would it be?

    4. Who is your favourite author?

    5. Which wave of feminism are you most convinced by?

    @Mr Trick

    1. What is your favourite swear word?
Take the word "luck" and replace the "l" with an "f" ;)

    2. What is the most sexy of all the body parts?

Dude, I don't know! That's so relative. It depends on what you like, I guess? I've no idea. I've been told that it's my butt or my breasts, but my legs get some compliments from gross old men on the streets . I do have good legs to wear skirts. I think I appreciate the way my body curves from the waist to the hips the most, maybe. But that's not a body part. I guess my brain is sexy? I love my brain the most out of all my body parts :).

    3. If you created your own comic book what genre would it be?
I'm not familiar with comic books, but perhaps I'd hire an amazing staff and create some decent Angel comics, with people who've actually seen the show and love it?

    4. Who is your favourite author?
My favorite author is Albert Camus.

    5. Which wave of feminism are you most convinced by?
Convinced by? I'm convinced by feminism in general. All of the waves convinced me, within their historical context, even if they were about different things: the right to vote, planned parenthood, etc. I guess I'm more fond of the current wave of feminism, because it's the most inclusive. Right now, feminism is more than just white feminism (which the other waves were mostly about) and is more focused towards fighting racism and supporting the LGBTQ community.

I'm very involved in labor rights in the sense that I only buy (to the best of my ability) ethically made products. That means that I only buy fairly traded chocolate, for example, because the cocoa plantations are full of cases of forced labor, child labor and the workers aren't paid a living wage. By buying only certified ethical chocolate, I'm trying to fight this.
However, the best example of labor rights + feminism, that demonstrates the kind of feminism I believe the world desperately needs, is the case of the fashion industry. The fashion industry employs mainly women, especially in developing countries. Women are not only involved in the picking of cotton (an abhorrent example of human rights violations), but also in the making of the clothing itself. People often forget that the capitalist system oppresses women the most, but especially these women, in developing countries, working too many hours for little pay, in unsafe, unsanitary conditions, unable to unionize for fear of being fired, chased down or sexually and physically abused, making cheap clothing people toss aside after a few wears. I try to support and empower these women by boycotting most brands and buying only from consciously minded ones who ensure proper working conditions, salaries and the human rights of the, mostly female, workers.

Long answer! Thanks for the questions.

    1. 5 places to visit:
New York because it's a classic! I want to know what if feels like to be lost in the streets of NY, to be blinded by all the lights and the people and the traffic. It always seems so exciting and out of the ordinary in movies and shows! Also, shopping...
London because it's another classic! London has quite a bit of history and shops that I want to go to.
Germany. Don't ask me where in Germany because I don't know. I've had this dream for awhile now of visiting Wagner's Opera House and the homes or museums of my favorite composers, philosophers and writers! I'd really, really love to visit all of that.
Milano for the fashion week and Teatro Alla Scala (one of the world's best opera houses).
Paris because it's another classic. I want to feel like a french movie star, walking around the Parisian streets, fashionably of course!

    2. I don't really want to travel to the past. Things only get worse in the past. Less human rights, especially for me as a woman, a higher mortality rate, lower life span, etc. Temporarily though, I guess I'd visit the 20s! I loved the fashion and it seemed like such an exciting time to live in. Full of hope and decadence.

    3. Aaaahhh, a magical machine that cured all illnesses? Gotta dream big :p

    1. I'm not one for celebrities. I do have crushes on some of them... Right now, Matt Czuchry! He's so handsome, intelligent and a great actor!
    2. I don't have a favorite political figure (I'm not that into politics) but I do have a favorite figure who discusses politics: John Oliver ;)
    3. I'm not very picky. As long as it's full of chocolate, I'm down! Perhaps ice cream? Ben&Jerry's is sooo good.
    4. My perfect day... sleeping 8 dream-free hours, waking up and relaxing in bed, having a great breakfast while watching Angel. Finally getting up around noon to shower and leave the house, shopping for a while, having a cappuccino and a blueberry muffin on Starbucks, sightseeing a bit, having a nice dinner with even nicer desert, watching Tristan und Isolde at a world renowned opera house, getting home, BBoarding and tumblring, going to sleep! :D

    1. Right handed, although I eat like I'm left handed? o_O
    2. Whoever is the non-believer (I only watched like an episode of X-Files!). I do believe there must be life in other planets but they're too far away.
    3. Song Long, Marianne by Leonard Cohen (my favorite song) or Knights of Cydonia by Muse (that song's great live).
    4. My iPod. It's like my best friend and my boyfriend rolled into one, indispensable!
    5. English. By that I mean, English as a second language, I kind of hated Portuguese! I always had great grades at English though and, up until high school, I was a favorite of my English teachers because I was the best in class.
    6. *Dreamy, disbelieving voice* Woooooowwww! Who knows if I'd say anything though, maybe I'd just faint? I mean, seeing Angel would mean vampires are real!

Could you survive alone an a desert island?

Hmm, if the clones were like in Orphan Black it would be pretty interesting to meet a different me, who lived a different life. If my clone was literally me, then perhaps not...

I definitely could not survive alone on a desert island! I'd be dead within days.

Nope. I'm not the best liar or actress, so spying is out of the list of future job possibilities.

Would you kill an Arab if right and wrong were meaningless and the sun was hitting you in the face and you happened to be carrying a gun?

Would you drink coffee and smoke at your mother's wake?

Is there anything to life except hedonism and sports?

How would you amuse yourself if you had to spend eternity pushing a rock up a hill?

    Angel/Spike - Eeeeeich, gods, no!
    Angel/Cordelia - Can I just say EWWW?
Angel/Faith - Awww, my babies, my redemption buddies, the ultimate BROTP!
Angel/Wesley - best friendship of the Buffyverse, I would kill and die for them.
Angel/Angelus - bitter rivals who like denying how much they have in common.

Nooooooo. Even if right and wrong were meaningless, why would I feel inclined to shoot someone? Who says that in the absence of morality, people become imoral? Being amoral doesn't mean being evil. Without morality, people would still not go around killing each other because it wouldn't be beneficial for our species. Why would I kill an Arab?? What would I gain from it? Especially since the sun shining on my face is unrelated to the Arab and to the gun in my hand.

What's wrong with drinking coffee? I'd do it. I don't smoke though. If I did, I'd have no problems doing it either. But I imagine I'd be too shocked, or in tears, to do so.

Certainly! There's money and work, sadly, and music and art! And many other great philosophies other than hedonism!

Naming Angel episodes in order? That's what I often do when I'm bored

Sorry. You named Albert Camus as your favourite author, so I thought I would give you some Camus inspired questions. I am not big into Camus. It is only about a year ago since I learnt not to pronounce the t and the s in his name :p I read L'Étranger some years back. Why haven't you read it? Drop what you're doing and run to the library. I quoted The Myth of Sisyphus in an exam I did last semester.

    Let's go again:

What Camus books should I read?

Are you ever the belle of the ball?

What is your favourite kind of animal?

Tell us an anecdote that would have to be included in a Hollywood biopic of your life.

Please, don't kill any Arabs because of me.

Oh my god, duh Carrie! Now I understand your questions! Sorry, hahaha. They were interesting! I guess I think differently from Camus? But the main character of L'Étranger, whose name I've forgotten, is supposed to be the absurd man so his actions aren't normal. Aren't they supposed to indicate why morality is necessary? I've no idea. Never mind, I may read philosophy but it doesn't mean I understand it.

I've read The Myth of Sisyphus as well but need to read it again. It was hard to read and I've forgotten lots of it. I said that Camus was my favorite author because his books had an impact on me. Lars Von Trier is my favorite director but I haven't seen a lot of his movies. I just know, based on what I've seen, that he's my favorite (though I genuinely love, love his movies). Idk how to explain it. It's instinctual.

You should re-read L'Étranger maybe? I still haven't finished reading The Fall (in fact, I need to start at the very beginning, gosh it is confusing) but I heard The Plague (which I haven't read) is amazing... Don't think of me as a Camus specialist, I'm an amateur!

I don't like to be the center of attention and I don't really love dresses, so no... I'm also not beautiful enough to be Belle.

Humans. I hate animals in general... They all frighten me or gross me out. Touching animals (who aren't human) just makes me feel squirmish.

If it's an Hollywood biopic then the first time I touched a Chanel bag must be in it! Some old lady asked me where Givenchy was (but Lisbon doesn't have a Givenchy store) so I pointed out a designer store that might sell Givenchy and she asked me if I wanted to come in with her. I said yes, and then she took me inside lots of designer stores (Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton for example). I touched lots of designer bags. The last one I touched was a small Chanel purse. It was a great experience. Also, a bit weird... Following some old lady with money around while she looked for the perfect bag, LOL.

    I won't, rest assured, lol.

Mylie: The Plague is actually my favorite Camus book! You should give a shot to his plays as well if you enjoy reading plays.

No, I am pretty sure Meursault is an example of the absurd hero, because he realises life is absurd but is still able to cope. Being like Meursault means giving up the lies that we tell ourselves to give our lives meaning. His attitude to life is both attractive and terrifying. Existentialist philosophy is complicated and paradoxical. Fiction is a great place to explore all those complexities without committing to something concrete.

The killing of the Arab may be a warning that there is danger in accepting the absurd. We may lose our footing completely. Or maybe we will enjoy true freedom. Who know? Those who dare to take the step, I guess.

You're right! In my defense, I was kind of joking about morality. But I was thinking actually a bit in nihilism. I think I've actually read somewhere that Camus was influenced by that. Also, he is an absurd hero so his actions aren't normal. He behaves differently and copes differently than anyone else.

Plus, if you were freed from "the lies of the world" would you live like Meursault? Does realizing life is absurd imply being like him? That's Camus' take on it.

And yes, Meursault! That's his name!
