So, some clarification so see if I'm missing something:

In Season 4 the gang cast a Sanctuary spell over the Hyperion so there can be no demon violence; so Angelus can't kill people. And then we witness that Lorne can't whack Connor over the head and that Connor (apparently also demon-like) can't hurt Angelus. Anti-violence spell in effect, on all demons.
    Fair enough.

Then in 'Orpheus' Jasdelia says that she can make sure the sanctuary spell doesn't work on Connor so he can go and kill Angelus. So he then knocks out Gunn (nothing happens) and then goes to stake Angel.
Then Faith beats the crap out of him.
So is Faith the slayer not classed as a demon? Can't the Sanctuary Spell tell that she's supernaturally 'special'?
And if so then why is a magical pacifism spell less adept at telling demon-y things apart than Spike's government chip?

Not watching the episode again right now, I could venture a guess that the magical trick Jasdelia pulls negates the protection for everyone in the area of effect, pausing the spell in a manner of speaking as opposed to just letting Connor strike at Angel.

Like instead of 'just Connor' it would be 'just the basement'? Huh, that actually works quite well. :)

I guess Jasdeia isn't at full power at that point, so it might make more sense.

That or "Cordelia" turned it off somehow. She's supposed to be part demon and yet was able to attack Connor in her bedroom.

I guess the spell doesn't classify slayers as demons. Spike's chip didn't classify slayers as demons, either.

In S6 it did. The whole 'you came back wrong' thing with Buffy. Somehow the chip knew about slayers where powerful anti-demon protection magicks don't.

Only because Buffy's resurrection changed her physically. Before her resurrection, the chip considered Buffy human. And since Faith was never resurrected, it's safe to assume that the chip would consider her to be human too.

But Tara said she didn't change, not significantly.
I guess one of the problem for me is we are never told in any way how the chip actually works; it doesn't seem to have a consistent logic to it. Especially in S6 and 67.

    Well, let's see:

As I understand it, this means that the resurrection changed Buffy just enough to make Spike's chip view her as a demon.

And I think that the chip is pretty consistent. At least, as consistent as any fantasy/sci-fi thingy can be...
