Just curious, has Joss or anyone else commented on why the 3 Little Pigs were shown on Prophecy Girl? (That is they were on the TV which had the bloody hand print on it, where Willow later said it wasn't her world anymore, the vampires made it theirs.)

Because the Three little pigs had a really dark sense of humor that fitted into the Buffyverse... Evidence A:

Honestly I just think that someone said "let's have cartoons on in the background, it'll make it all that more grotesque" because the cartoons are associated with kids and innocence, not so much vampires and mutilation. I think it's just a coincidence that it's the Three Little Pigs, but that's just me guessing. :)

From IMDb, not sure if this is the reason though?!

On Buffy the primary bad guy for each season is always referred to as The Big Bad. This term first pops up in dialogue in Season 2. But the term is first alluded to in this episode. Vampires sent by The Master (Season 1's Big Bad) kill a room full of high school kids watching TV. When Willow finds them there is s cartoon playing in the TV they were watching. It's The Three Little Pigs. The volume is off but the scene playing is where the pigs are dancing to the song, "Who's Afraid Of THE BIG BAD Wolf?"

They could've also been watching Dumbo on vhs which had a 3 little pigs cartoon after the end of it. Assuming they'd been dead for a while and the vhs had been left running, it's unlikely they were only just watching a 3 little pigs cartoon since they don't last long.

Thanks so much! I wasn't really expecting an answer on why the production crew would include that cartoon but this is a pleasant surprise. :)

I always got the impression that it was to juxtapose the childish/innocent associations with cartoons to the bloody murder scene; it makes the moment even more horrific for the audience and the characters.

That's a good catch didn't even notice it was the 3 little pigs. Its for classic contrast effect I'm guessing.

When I saw this thread title I expected it to be about the Pack;)

Maybe Joss Whedon just likes the three little pigs?

*Assuming that he's responsible for that particular Save the Day video.
