A Holiday For Buffy and Co part 1

Buffy had decided they should travel to a part of the country where most of the remaining farms were considered not overly viable. Buffy wanted to have a quality getaway but didn’t want to put the people who owned the farm to be put out of a living. Buffy was thankful when she found the rental was a quarter of the farm that was up for holiday rents.

With Willow, Dawn, Anya with Xander they took as much as many provisions as they thought might be needed to last for two days. Their idea was to buy as much locally grown produce as was needed from the bakers shop, the greengrocers and the grocers shop, those places were to be frequented many times by them.

The first night at the rental brought them many a surprise, there was a couple there of about their mid-forties whose job it was to look after them, Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Cressida Fell. “Please ignore any strange noises you hear, these old houses love to creak and groan and sound as if air is caught in the water pipes, an odd sound indeed.”

The couple led Buffy and co out into the barn, Mr. Fell said that the reported crux of any weird happenings that night occur would be from there. Even when no bales of hay were known to be kept in there was never a mouse or its droppings to be seen in there, also that no horse or cow would ever go in the barn.

Anya wandered about the walls inside the barn and agreed because she could not find any evidence of any rodents or any vermin that any had ever been there though there was no traps or poisons. Nothing was out of sort outside the barn except for the stone well made more ominous by the circular wood.

Dawn discovered that the lines of Ogham were evident along the edge on the edge of the wooden lid of the well. Willow stated that Ogham was a dead language that was used mainly for folk who walked the tracks of the countryside, though part the message on the lid read, ‘Blessed be to all those who enter beyond here.’

Surprised by what she read Willow stepped back from the lid, Buffy noticed her movement and asked her, “What is wrong?” Willow kept stare at the lid over the well. “I am unsure what it could mean, I know what the writing is and the words it refers to, but my understanding of why they are there makes me see that something that is wrong.”

Willow continued to think all was not right, “It is almost as though as warning has been given to those who do not wish others venture into hell.” Back in the kitchen the meal was being made by Mrs. Fell, she looked to Willow and nodded to her as if she knew what was wrong. Willow shook her head, “No it is the writing on the lid of the well,” said Willow.

She suddenly realized that no sound had been uttered by Mrs. Fell. “If you do look into the well you will see a grate has been fixed in place to stop any unwary person falling down the well, also there is also a breather pipe should it ever be needed that has a grate fitted to it, the tube comes up to the surface in the barn though it is kept well hidden.”

Buffy looked around the barn, “How is it kept hidden?” asked Buffy. Mr. Fell grinned to Buffy, he said he had found the pipe with a large grate fitted to the end of it, the bales of hay are constantly above it.” Anya concluded what she had seen when she toured the barn earlier “I saw no evidence of any vermin,” said Anya.

“But why did whoever it was put the grate on the piper, if that is a way out of hell some small sections of grate would not be enough to keep them in,” said Xander. “That could be considered to be true,” said Mr. Fell, “But neither my husband nor I consider it was placed there to stop the demon’s getting out of hell, mainly to stop the human’s getting in,” said Mrs. Fell.

Dawn faced Buffy, “Am I reading too much into what they just said, but he just said it was to stop the humans getting in.” Buffy looked confused, she was amazed at what Dawn had said. Dawn added, “He should have said it initially that the grate was to stop us humans getting in.” Buffy remained to appear to be amazed.

“Did you hear all of what was just said Willow?” asked Buffy. “Yes, though I was a mite confused by what human’s would want to get into Hell,” thought Willow. “As did I, though I thought of where into hell it would go and who the humans would find themselves fronted by, demon, Angel or entity,” thought Anya.

A Holiday For Buffy And Co: part 2

( The stage coach has a red glow, it is drawn by two massive dogs with eyes the size of saucers, it is an actual ghost that is said to carry the Devil from deep in a lake up onto the ground. It is from a deep pool in Cornwall, UK. ) (Persephone is pronounced Persephoknee.) (It is definitely a sight to see.)

In the Fell’s kitchen, Dawn was reading through a book that seemed to be a record of the history of the Fell family. Dawn began to be interested in the section that spoke of an accident when one of the farms trailers came adrift (rolled over) from the two Shire horses that were pulling it. The trailer rolled over at a bend and killed Mrs. Fell.

After she told Mr. Fell he could not contain himself, he needed to gain the answer to what had been found. Dawn attracted attention to herself by raising her arm and waving. “It states here that Mrs. Fell died in an accident when a horse trailer rolled over onto her, Buffy thanked her. Dawn continued with the news that Mrs. Fell’s death was said to be on the 17th August 1653.”

That night it was just after midnight that many people woke to hear sounds of a person in the corridor outside the bedrooms, initially they thought someone was walking the corridor then it became obvious that every bedroom door handle was being rattled, as that sound faded some chains were heard to be shaken accompanied by moaning and grotesque groaning.

Willow found a book on the window ledge of her room as she was looking at the fields outside the farmhouse. As she flicked through the pages towards the back of the book she began to read about the Fell family. It started with the death of Mrs. Fell which Willow found odd as it was normally the woman who changed her name when she became married.

Willow asked Buffy if Mrs. Cressida Fell had never been married, Buffy looked to Dawn, “I did hear a rumor about her.” Dawn looked to Xander, “Was it you who I first heard telling Buffy about the history of this farmhouse?” asked Dawn. “Many things have been reported as having happened within the walls and floor of the farmhouse,” replied Xander.

“I first heard tales of strange bright lights being seen in the attic and on occasion a glow has been seen to be emitted from the ground.” Willow looked to Xander, “From what part of the ground did that light come from.” “Take a line that runs through the farmhouse, through the well then down into the valley below,” Xander looked to Willow, “It has been seem for many a year.”

Willow kept a watch of the field from the window ledge, she could see a bare tree that appeared to be dead. She asked Buffy if she had ever heard anything about the tree?” “Actually I did, when I told Xander about coming here he told me about that tree, it has always been dead since Mrs. Cressida Fell died, never has it flowered or borne a leaf since 1653.

There are tales of the carriage heading towards the farmhouse from the lake in the valley. It is said to be drawn by two massive dogs as big as Shire Horses but with eyes the size of saucers. Rumors claim that the Devil gives a lift to Mrs. Cressida Fell to the farmhouse where she can stroke the tree before she wanders by the bedrooms,” said Persephone, the devils wife.

Buffy stared at the ghost of Persephone, Buffy found a belief by many people that Mrs. Fell wandered through the corridor that weaved its way between the doors of the bedrooms. Willow asked Buffy if she held much faith in the tale of the tree. At a few hours after sunrise Dawn held the ends of the branches of the tree. There were no buds on the twigs of the branches.

Dawn went into the barn to look at where the bales of hay were piled, seeing no increase in height she went back to the kitchen in the farmhouse and made herself a hot drink. Buffy walked into the room, “What are you thinking of Dawn?” asked Buffy. Dawn faced her, “I am thinking about the tree and what will cause it to return to life.”

Buffy was suddenly aware that Dawn had been looking to something or someone behind her. “What or who is it Dawn.” Buffy noticed the transparent figure walk beside her towards Dawn. “Who are you?” asked Buffy. The transparent figure slowly began to be allow herself to be seen. “Persephone! Why are you here?” asked Buffy.

“I heard Dawn talking about the tree then you were talking about me, what do you want to know about the tree Dawn?” asked Persephone. Dawn faced her, “Why is it dead what will cause it to return to life?” asked Dawn. “Mrs. Cressida Fell was accidentally murdered, if he who killed her can be forgiven by my husband there is a chance it will spring back to life,” said Persephone.

Dawn looked to Willow and Buffy, “It will give us something to do.”

A Holiday For Buffy And Co part 3

“The chances of the devil forgiving whoever it was that killed Mrs. Fell is very unlikely,” said Buffy. Willow agreed then made a gesture to indicate she agreed with what had been said, “Trouble is Buffy, getting someone to ask the Devil who did kill Mrs. Fell.” A grin slowly formed on Willow’s face, “Might I suggest Anya?”

Buffy slowly shook her head, “but points for saying that nicely.” Willow went to meet to Devil’s stage coach, Anya went with her, “I’ve heard the dogs are such sweeties.” As the coach came towards them Persephone wandered to be beside them, “Well, you know, I am married to the son of a bitch, even if it was some demon who was the celebrant who married us,

guess there are not many churches down there. That and I might be able to help you I know he would not be pleased to see me, he hates seeing me where the dogs are. They will not do anything for him it is as much as he can do to get them to pull the carriage in the direction he wants and just as well that they cannot see him.

I get on great with them they will roll over beg play dead and let me tickle their tums, and their tales wag like crazy when they see me, so yeah, me being here might cheer the dogs up not so much him though.” The stage coach was driven to the entry of the farms storage barn, Persephone made a fuss of the dogs as the Devil pondered the grate down to the well.

Buffy kept an eye on him, it occurred to her that he wasn’t trying to see what was down there but he was seeing if anything had risen up to the grate. Interested to see what Buffy stated Willow opened the way down while Buffy went to get Xander and Anya. They went down both pipes to the bottom of the well, that is when Anya saw the tunnel.

At the surface Anya was able to tell them that the tunnel headed towards the lake, Xander was chosen to stay on the surface of the ground and notify them of any changes, it was not long before he contacted them on the two-way radio. From the tunnel Willow, Anya and Buffy received a message from Persephone that the lake was not what they thought it was.

Xander explained to them that where he stood there was a field of long grass. When the wind blew the long grass appeared to be just like water, the waves flowed over where they thought the lake was, Persephone told Xander to run to the back of the stage coach and get on the back. She said she would join him, before he climbed onto it he told the others what he was going to do.

Buffy, Willow and Persephone started to run along the tunnel. Above them the stage coach approached the shore line of the long grass and a well-traveled lane appeared between the long strands of grass, the lane began to get lower and lower until the field seemed to be above Xander’s head, soon all light above the ground failed to be.

Seeing the end of a tunnel Persephone motion it to Xander, “I hope that is the one,” he said. He and Persephone got off the stage coach and went to the tunnel. Xander stamped on the stone work of the tunnel, Willow gladly said she could hear him. Before long they were together again, Willow said she could feel a gentle breeze coming from the direction that Xander pointed too.

That is the way the coach went I can feel he has gone that way. “So who could it be that went into the pipes under the barn?” asked Dawn. “Someone who the Devil trusts to tell him about the Olive tree and lets face it, even I know there are few people the Devil trusts,” said Persephone. The group of them kept wandering along the tunnel suddenly Willow stopped.

“What is it?” asked Buffy. Willow pointed into a pitch black tunnel in the side wall, “There is someone in the tunnel although I don’t know who is there,” said Willow. Persephone faced into the darkness, “It feels like, but it can’t be him, the person is coming this way,” said Persephone. Dawn looked to Persephone when a figure emerged from the darkness.

“I was just putting the stage coach away and giving the dogs something to eat,” said the Devil. “You were but I kept being told that the Devil rules over everyone in hell with an iron fist,” said Xander. “There are many up there who would like you to believe that but I was told to be in hell to watch over the dead, which I do.

Thing is who sends the bad ones to hell now, he who decides who isn’t fit to be in his heaven,” said the Devil. “Isn’t that you?” asked Xander. “How can it be, I’m only here to watch over the dead.” Dawn faces the Devil, “He has a point.” “And about what you want to know, Mr. Fell killed Mrs. Fell though he didn’t do it on purpose?” asked the Devil

“I think I do agree with the Devil,” said Dawn. Mr. Fell bitterly complained constantly to Mrs. Fell though he would never have chosen to if a friend hadn’t sowed the seed of doubt in his mind. But the seed grew and it became full with a mind of its own. That is when Mr. Fell thought his loving wife was anything but, her favourite tree stopped its life when she died.”

Dawn faced Persephone, “Could it be that if I beg help for Mr. and Mrs. Fell would that bring life back to the Olive tree?” asked Dawn. “But you still have not told me who caused them to die,” said the Devil. Dawn looked to him, “Who might possibly have the most to gain from their deaths.” Dawn grinned to the Devil, “Could it be the Angel of Death.

“The Angel would have no problem getting through the grate even though they are closed,” said Persephone. The Devil faced her and Dawn, “Will someone go and check the Olive tree?” Xander ran as fast as he could then within eight minutes he returned. “The Olive tree bears fruit.”
