Board Temporarily Closed to Guests

We were experiencing some super high cpu loads, so I turned off guest viewing to bring the load down. Otherwise the site would not load for anyone. I'll be monitoring it and will turn guest viewing on again once the issue appears resolved.

I've also turned off all modifications in order to bring load down.

I can understand how guest viewing increases the load (more guests=more load) but don't understand how the modifications (such as media and reputation) increases the load as well.

The only other thing is if we're watching something like an episode of TV together we tend to use the chatbox for that?

You'll simply have to wait to use things like the chatbox until the issue is resolved and the board can load properly. If it doesn't load properly, you won't have much use for the chatbox anyway.

It creates additional queries to the database every time a page is loaded. You will notice the board runs faster without them.

I have opened the board again to guests pending any issues.

Ah! That explains why I kept losing my connection last night. It kept timing out.

Wasn't me using all the CPU before anyone asks
