It's an interesting theory, but I don't think so.

Not necessarily. While some cancers clearly have a genetical factor, others do not. Just think about the HPV virus.

In "No Place Like Home" Buffy says "what you've done is killing her [Joyce]." It was brought up at least once but it was dropped for some reason.

Honestly I think so. And in so doesn't mean it want supposed to happen or it wasn't meant to be. I've thought about this for years and I agree with you. Yes it's supposed to bring forth humanity and a loss for Buffy. However, that doesn't make it any less of a possibility. Things don't have to be mentioned on the show to allow them to be true and we'll never know 100% sure. But I mean, you don't see any thematic of Buffy being mentioned. "Hey, we're doing this to promote women power." Or "hey, this one is for acceptance of LGBTQ"

I think Dawn gave Joyce the tumour. Inserting memories of a fake person is a serious bit of magic, but Joyce also had to have a mother's love for Dawn created out of thin air.

Exactly. And magic ALWAYS has consequences. Always. She and Buffy had to have had more memories made than anyone. Probably Joyce more than anyone, actually. Even being said, maybe Buffy's ability to heal exceptionally fast had something to do with her not having any issues?

That's the thing about cancer. The cause is often unknown. I like the idea that the tumor may have been caused by the monks, maybe not, ultimately does it matter?
