After being inadvertently sucked into a dimensional portal, Cordelia finds herself stuck in Lorne's home world, Pylea, a place where demons rule and human beings are slaves at best. Back in L.A., Angel is determined to find a way to rescue Cordelia, but when it seems that travelling to Pylea is the only answer, Lorne begins to get cold feet. After spending years in L.A., he is not at all happy at the idea of a homecoming.

-LOVE Cordy's outfit!!
-Loving how Angel is hell-bent on saving Cordelia. Such a change from their days on BtVS!
-"Is this thing out of batteries??" Funny stressful moments.
-Cordy being licked by the hell dog and called a cow - HAHAHA!
-NOOOO! Gunn can't leave!
-So, how many weird looks does Gunn get when he drives his truck during the day?
-So, with the lawyers...did the casting crew of Lost just take the same actors off of Angel? It's Jin!!
-Fred is pretty looney. Oh, my.
-I am very curious to know who Angel was leaving a message with...
-So, the Higher Powers like to harrass Cordy in all dimensions.
-YAY! GUNN IS BACK!!!
-Aww, giddy in-the-sun Angel!!

-Wes poking and pinching Angel is pretty hilarious.

-Best line EVER: "I think we're winning!" Oh, Wesley. Also hilarious is Wes shuffling in his shackles.
-I wonder how Angel got out of the Tower of London.
-Looks like Cordy finally won prom queen!

I love that Cordy clicks her heels to try and get home, fitting considering the episode title! Also the hell hounds are the same from the episode The Prom and Cordy didnt recognise him! Its interesting to see how differently Angel and Wes work, Wes wants to research and Angel wants to act. Poor Gunn feeling all responsible for his friends death. It was ironic that Lorne has someone to go to for advice. Poor crazy Fred! I really wanted Angel to be leaving that message for Buffy and I was gutted that he'd left it for Gunn! I love the cliff hanger.

I've listened to the commentary from Fred Keller. He mentions that the scene at the bar is to show Angel's intense need to bring his ''lady love'' back :( He explains how good all the actors are and how difficult it is for actor's to work in so much make up. He comments on how good Andy is and how it was nice to work with Amy because it was her first time acting. He mentions locations and camera shots and how good the make up department are at their jobs.

I showed this episode to a friend who hadn't seen a lot of Angel and this moment had her howling with laughter, she thought it was a perfect "well why the heck not?" if you find yourself in a strange place. :)
I love that little joke too :D

I loved this episode, but did anyone else feel a slight nod to Stargate SG1?

When they said the portal was at a studio, I was hoping so much that it was going to be the stargate! And then as the episode continued, because I had stargate on the brain, I couldn't help but think of the similarities. They were in a different realm, but it sure looked a lot like the typical stargate 'other planet', and we got the brains, the braun, the beauty and the black guy haha! The first thing I think I noticed was the similarities between Wesley and Daniel, does anyone else see this or do I just have Stargate on the brain?

Great episode. Felt really sorry for Cordy again. She goes through a lot this season! The Deathwok clan have the potential to be goofy but they really do come across as scary.
I saw similarities to Buffy when Cordy was trying to be humourous when they were accusing her of being cursed- I could totally picture her in that situation. :p
I totally wasn't expecting that ending!

Sorry for your loss, AI :(

Poor Cordy :(

Cordy, the optimism was worth a shot ;)

Angel is right, screw logic right now, it will just make things worse...

He has a weird tounge...

Lorne, I think that Fred opened the portal for you to get out...

A world without music ??? :(

Gunn :(

That's humiliating and disgusting

Add the collar, it makes things worse...

Poor Fred :(

Lorne, you need to go...

Didn't think that Wes would be into kink...

Cordy looks horrible in those clothes, she would agree with me.

No laughing in Pylea :(

Pylea looks worse than hell...

Viper's milk o_O

"Brad and Jennifer", shows the show's age.

Angel, enjoy the sunlight :D

Pylea has a priest, do they have a Pope too ???

Wes is right, the book is probably useless in Pylea...

Pylea is more old fashioned than North Korea...

Wes, you jinxed it...

The Pyleans are pretty brutal people...

Sentenced to what ??? death or worse ??? o_O

Queen Cordy o_O

Next time: even more Pylea.

Great episode for reasons already mentioned in this thread.

Watching this episode just recently, like Jules, I thought Angel was leaving a message on the phone to Buffy before leaving for Pylea until it was revealed later on it was a message for Gunn.

Think Charisma Carpenter gives one of her best performances as Cordy in this episode. Her reactions to be captured and referred to as "Cow" o_O and the selling of being a fish out of water are great. Amy Acker makes a strong first proper appearance too. This trio of episodes just get better on re-watches. Its a fitting ending to S2.

I love that Cordy clicks her heels to try and get home, fitting considering the episode title! Also the hell hounds are the same from the episode The Prom and Cordy didnt recognise him! Oh wow! Interesting. I assumed the message was for Buffy just in case Angel didn't come back.

You know, for a bunch of demons... they look awfully human. I know, I know, it's a minor nitpick and Lorne's species is supposed to look human to serve the metaphorical structure of the show (and be relatable), but I never liked the idea of either demons or aliens who look humanoid in design (something that really put me off in Guardians of the Galaxy). I always prefer the more beastly-looking demons and aliens that look like animals, especially demons who are supposed to see humans as animals.

This was a fun episode, but it feels kinda anticlimactic for a closing arc to the season compared to Buffy's big fight with Glory. It's interesting though how both series are having these medieval settings coming into play. Shame we probably wouldn't get to see a dragon or something.

Sad thing is our own medieval history was more barbaric than the one on Pylea. Maybe humans have more demon blood...

At least in Pylea's case, I see it as more of an alternate world than a Hell dimension. Though physics and metaphysics are different from Earth, time was parallel and there did seem to be some sense of right and wrong. For torture, they were amateurs to what we humans have done, and as for killing...well, best to skip that depressing subject, though I'll point out that lawful governments were the most deadly force (even without counting the wars) that killed more than natural disaster or criminals and terrorists. And it was a lot better than it used to be. (I'm not expecting this century to be better, either. I actually fear that the late 20th century is as good as it gets.) Even nations that get made fun of for being so kindly have a dark history in the 20th century.

Though on a more humorous (if gallows) note, it amuses me to think of demons like Ken or the Deathwok clan out to hunt human cows or some such deciding, "Let's take a portal to Earth and hunt us some humans for food and slaves!" And when they do, they wind up in Somalia, Area 51, or even just this:

To them, Earth would be the Hell dimension, and humans would then be the things demons have nightmares about, be it Ken's people or those on Pylea. :D

To avoid a lot off topic, I'll just say that I despised the very notion of Ferengi in ST: NG...until DS9 which made them actually interesting, if still baffling in some ways. (And to be clear, I think a lot of demons could be transplanted to Star Wars or Star Trek, and vice versa, without anyone noticing anything...and compare Bro'os/Teeth with the Karkarodon of Star Wars.)

Here's one of my favorite, which I share more for a laugh, but I'm sure there are demon species who would say the same (like the normally non-violent one on Angel that only became violent on drugs, or the Lister Clan might have something similar to say), as this exchange between Quark and Sisko:

"The way I see it, hew-mons used to be a lot like Ferengi: greedy, acquisitive, interested only in profit. We're a constant reminder of a part of your past you'd like to forget."

"We don't have time for this..."

"But you're overlooking something: Hew-mons used to be a lot worse than the Ferengi. Slavery. Concentration camps. Interstellar wars. We have nothing in our past that approaches that kind of barbarism. You see? We're nothing like you. We're better. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a lock to pick."

On a side note, I forgot to include Chernobyl as a "fun place" for demons to visit (some parts so radioactive that it kills humans instantly). Here:

If demons could survive it, I'd be curious what effects it might have on them. (And if UV burned vampires, it would be a no-go zone for them, too.)
