Willow's looking at courses in college, and she's giddy...

At least she found a class for Buffy :)

Buffy talks about staying sharp while a vamp looks over

First day of college, Buffy seems lost.

Willow on the other hand, seems too giddy about the whole thing...

Oz seems to calm about college, but at least he isn't extremely giddy about it.

Buffy, how can an aneurysm be funny ?

Sadly, lots of stores discriminate against short people, I'm surprised Buffy doesn't have coping mechanisms for this sort of thing.

Riley makes an appearance, apart of his haircut, he seems to be OK for now :)

Cathy, she seems off already...

Cathy snores so much Buffy can't sleep :(

That is quite an annoying teacher

I like Riley's attitude to getting hit in the head ;)

Prof Walsh seems like a very serious person who gives no exceptions and doesn't give a shit, there are some pros to having such a teacher.

Buffy has seen porn before ? not surprised.

In a way, Mr.Pointy is Buffy's security blanket, she never goes anywhere without it.

Eddie got kidnapped by a bunch of vampires :(

Those vamps are sorting through his stuff, and Sunday is one ugly vamp...

Giles introduces Buffy to Olivia, his girlfriend.

Buffy, Giles isn't that old yet...

Buffy, I'm sorry that you lost your new friend :(

"You fight like a girl", she is a girl...

After what happened the night before, Buffy returns home to find a room filled with packing boxes...

That vamp gang took Buffy's stuff too :(

Xander :)

Xander, you aren't helping Buffy...

Is East Cupcake, Illinois an actual town ?

Xander thinks of Buffy as his hero :)

Buffy and Xander doing research on their own, useful skill when you are a slayer.

If a window can't support Buffy's weight, it's not a very strong window :p

Oz, how are you so calm all the time ?

Sunday, what have you done ? :(

Buffy headbutting a vamp ? IIRC, that was always more of a Faith trait.

Eddie is about to meet his end.

Next time:Cathy and more of her annoying quirks...

Buffy will learn it's not a season and a half later. Do you think Buffy regrets those words after Joyce is diagnosed?

Sadly, lots of stores discriminate against short people, I'm surprised Buffy doesn't have coping mechanisms for this sort of thing.

I think it's more a spacing issue. They stack up so there is more space to move around and have more stuff.

Cathy snores so much Buffy can't sleep :(

Perhaps that's why Buffy prefers to have vampires as a romantic partner? Since they don't breathe, snoring isn't an issue. :p

Those vamps are sorting through his stuff, and Sunday is one ugly vamp...

I always thought Sunday was quite pretty aside from the hairstyle.

Giles introduces Buffy to Olivia, his girlfriend.

I wouldn't call her his girlfriend per se, more like a friends with benefits deal.

Xander thinks of Buffy as his hero :)

That was a nice scene between the two.

If a window can't support Buffy's weight, it's not a very strong window :p

Wasn't the building meant to be knocked down or something but was held up over paper work at city hall?

What I find funny about the sunday remark is this iead than vamps should be good looking, their not super model!;) She's a weak villain imo more to the point.

The Freshman is a so-so season starter for me. I like visually how they sell the new college space and it ticks a lot of the boxes for a brand new chapter. But it doesn't do much else of note, and the Sunday plot is a bit lame.

lol I remember being nervous that Cathy would become part of the gang when I first saw this episode. Especially when Xander meets her while reuniting with Oz and Willow in the dorm.

Good point. I'm sure the writers would have done something more with Cathy if she had come on board full time.

Too many people would've been annoyed if Kathy had become part of the gang. Given the way she was written, the audience weren't supposed to like her. They were supposed to side with Buffy and Buffy found her as irritating as hell.

A nice little bit of foreshadowing about Kathy's true identity occurs in this episode.

Sunday and her gang strip the rooms of their prey to make it look like their victim has taken off instead of being killed. However, vampires aren't able to enter human residences without invitations unless the human resident is dead (hence why Spike had to trick Willow into inviting him into the dorm room). Since the vampires didn't kill Buffy and the supposedly human Kathy was still living there, the vampire gang shouldn't have been able to get in. However, because Kathy was actually a demon and thus the invitation rule doesn't apply to a demon residence, the vampires were able to gain entry.

The main question is why the vampires thought they could get in when Buffy wasn't dead yet.

Pretty good opener. That pop culture teacher was such a funny dickhead! Bet the actor had a blast playing that scene, "Leave"!:D Sunday has grown on me as a one shot villain. Eddie wasn't as appealing this time around. Probably makes sense he was a one shot character too.

I felt sorry for Buffy in that scene because she'd been told incorrect information and was then publicly humiliated for it.

Sunday has grown on me as a one shot villain.

I would've like to see Sunday in at least one more episode, especially if they'd gone for the original Slaypire idea with her, but I guess they wanted to focus on Kathy and then get her out of the way.

Eddie wasn't as appealing this time around. Probably makes sense he was a one shot character too.

I liked Eddie and Sunday's line, but I think had the writers allowed him to build up a friendship with Buffy a little then killed him, we could've had Xander mention Jesse since the two situations would mirror each other (geeky guy killed and sired by blonde vampire).

I felt sorry for her too, just enjoyed the actor's performance. Interesting idea about Eddie.

His death was cooler in Game of Thrones 😂

The Xander/Buffy moment is my favorite part of this episode. I did love the Willow/Oz moments as well.

Re-watched this episode last night. Real Fun episode. Like it more on rewatch than when I first saw it

.My Thoughts:

I loved the S4 sets, particularly the college Library which looked fantastic 😲

Cool background song just after the credits

Loved the college setting much more than school but that's just general across the board not just Buffy. The whole school setting by shows I find kind of creepy.

Loved Sunday, she could definitely have been promoted from 1 episode to mid season villain and I would've been cool with it.

Except for the pointless flip by Sunday the fight scenes were decent and smooth.

Giles actually has a private life 👍

Some great dialogue, loved Oz lines.

Great cross over moment that doesnt get in the way of either show.

Only real negative amd I'm not sure it's even that was the idea that Buffy, who lived several months alone in LA, would somehow be overwhelmed by being in college 🤷‍♂️

@Grace Eddie's death was cooler in Kingsman 2 😃

Just noticed on this viewing that Eddie is Pedro Pascal. Loved him in the Narcos series and Riley is on Narcos as well But he is a jerk on there.

Re: Sunday & Eddie: The way I see it is this. Every one has that one friend they meet during orientation, hits it off with, and never sees again, except for like, class registration. This is just because orientation is nothing like classes. As for Sunday, the demons you face in your first week of college are unique to that week. Had Sunday shown up any other week of Buffy's life, she would have fell quickly.
