Sorry for replying 5 years too late! But yes that did cross my mind too. I think they did it that way because of the Beast only being one part of a wider puzzle. But they did back themselves into a corner by building him up so much in the first place. After how impossible it seemed the beast was to hurt in previous fights I was wondering what it was going to take to beat him. I thought it was going to take something drastic or special or ingenious, or something like the slayer spell/boost like the one Buffy used to beat Adam in S4. Then he gets stabbed in the back and just like that he's finished. Does anyone else feel it was kind of a copout? It not only happened too easily, but it was also real unimaginative. After building up that guy, that's the best they can come up with to finish him? An all-too-convenient special artifact (that the beast carelessly allows to be taken from him) one back stab and that's it? It's like the writers got themselves into a corner and didn't know how to get out...or they felt lazy or suddenly uninterested and thought, "oh we'll just get rid of him this way real quick". I expected something epic or ingenious.
