As new jobs, new relationships, and new priorities arise, the Scoobies' personal feuds are becoming a big issue for the team. When the trail of the Restless Door leads to the Demon Lord's hideout, the Mistress takes advantage of their discord and presents the team with a terrible decision that could tear them apart.

Great issue! Lot's of stuff happening!
Giles is back – and he brought with him a friend. He wants to open a portal from his home to make it easier for him to go to the fae world, where his magical skills are progressing quickly – but Buffy thinks that he is more concerned about his "girlfriend"... Buffy doesn't want to weaken the barriers between worlds, and thus risking the safety of our dimension, which pisses Giles off – he who had to put up with her “ridiculous and, quite frankly, interminable romantic misadventures for years!” He then walks away with his fae, slamming the door in Buffy's face.
Later, Buffy and Spike are talking about Giles – and ghost Anya, from Xander's room, is spying on them; Buffy says that underage Giles sucking face with a “crystal-looking chick” creeps her out, and asks again (like she did when she was talking about Willow) if she is being selfish. Spike tries to make things better saying that the faery have a spiritual connection, and, anyway, it isn't their business - the lap dog is biting and Buffy isn't liking.
***Anya describes the whole thing to Xander: Buffy pretends she's not mad, gives Spike the cold shoulder and... pouts.***
Spike says that Buffy is right about not wanting to make easier to open portals, though, and adds that she is taken it too hard because after so long, the band was together again, and now they are splitting not because of some cosmic evil: it's life that is tearing them apart, and she can't punch anything this time.
***Anya reports that the vamp is trying to fix things because he is feeling he will not get laid.***
Xander says to ghost Anya that he talked to Dr Mike about her and was advised to ignore her/it, because she/it is being used as a crutch, to avoid real problems. He says to Anya that she is not Anya, and he will not talk to her anymore. Besides, he ignoring her will help her to find who or what she really is. Xander cries.
Tipped off by D'Hoffryn, the whole gang – Willow, Giles, Andrew, Dawn, Xander, Spike and Buffy – go to the mines where the Mistress and the Soul Glutton are hidden. The villains are waiting for them – they say that they sensed their arrival, and a battle ensues – and the Scoobies are having trouble winning. When inadvertently Dawn calls Buffy “sister”, the Soul Glutton thinks he has his chance to revenge the death of his family by a Slayer; he takes Dawn and starts sucking her soul! The Scoobies can't do anything, she's lost.

But then something happens: instead of growing yet bigger from the “meal”, the Soul Glutton starts to become smaller and smaller. He says that Dawn isn't a true person, she is the Key incarnate in human form; her soul is “unique, powerful, deadly, like a poison” and congratulates Buffy for her cunning plan: using her sister as bait. Dawn asks Buffy if she knew, and the Slayer says that of course she didn't, it was a lucky accident.
The Mistress and the Soul Glutton, not able to fight the Scoobies anymore, open a portal with the Restless Door... and then destroy it. The group now have an open portal that is pouring demons, and they cannot close it from our dimension. They need to go to the hell dimension, and close it from there; Willow and Giles will pull them back. But Willow reminds Buffy that now opening portals is something hard to do, and they would end up being trapped. Unless... they have a... key, Giles has the nerve to suggest - for Buffy's, Xander's and Spike's horror.
