Dynamics You Wanted More Of

What it says in the title - what dynamics did you want to see more of? Mine are:
  • Joyce/Giles - I do kinda lowkey ship these two, but even if I didn't, I would still love this dynamic. They're Buffy's parents, for all intents and purposed, and they're both very flawed at it, and that produces a really interesting dynamic. It helps that every interaction they have is pure gold.
  • Connor/Fred/Gunn - Fred and Gunn spent a whole summer taking care of Connor, and they appeared to have grown close over the course of it. I hated that this dynamic was just dropped when Angel returned and never explored. Fred and Gunn could have been advocates for Connor or at the very least, helped to portray a more nuanced view of him.
  • Anne/Buffy - after doing a re-watch of Anne with some friends recently, I realised how much I actually really like this dynamic. I would have liked for Buffy to run into Anne a few years after the events of the episode and see how well she was doing and how strong and capable she had become.
  • Darla/Connor - I loved their interactions in Inside Out and would have loved to see more of them.

Joyce/Spike - I loved their scenes together, very odd-couple vibe and so much fun to watch.

Oz/Buffy - I think we only saw one scene of them alone together, and I'd have liked to see more, to see the effect these very two different personalities had on each other.

Buffy/Cordy - Two of my most favourite characters which I'd have liked to have seen meet later on in the series. I think Buffy would be surprised by half-demon Cordy.

  • Giles/Xander - we got some greatness in S4, but after that, there wasn't really all that much with them; I thought they made for a funny pair, though.
  • Faith/Willow - on either show, really. I wanted to know what they each thought of the other one, after Faith's time in prison and Willow's walk on the dark side.
  • Buffy/Tara - such a missed opportunity to build that bond in S6, post-breakup.
  • Spike/Wesley or Spike/Gunn - as much as I love the Spangel in S5, and Spike's bond with Fred, I wanted more interaction with the others, too.

Connor + Cordy
There was so much potential there and it was squandered. The whole thing ended too quickly.

Willow + Riley
As much as I like Riley and Buffy together, those early scenes with Blucas and Hannigan seemed like they had great chemistry. Reckon I would have shipped the hell out of Willow and Riley and I'm not a big shipper.

Angel and Oz. They had one conversation in Dopplegangland. It was nice to Angel talk to someone who wasn't trying to kill him or sleep with his girlfriend.

They had another in In The Dark, where it was established that they are usually laconic.

Xander/Giles/Ethan: Xander wasn't only a demon magnet, but he sets books on fire just by speaking Latin at them, something that not even Willow could do without training. He has a precog (or reality shaping?) dream in season 4. I bet there's a reason that spell in BBB was super-strong.

Surely they could at least have an episode of Ethan trying to mentor the boy for the laughs (this could swear Xander off magic, which is probably for the best, as for what is controversial for Willow would've had people rendering their garments and pouring ashes on their head had it been Xander). Naturally, this gets Giles to take more of an interest in Xander (however grudging), and if nothing else, teaches more emotional self-control (very important if you have a "wild talent") that doubles as useful training like fencing (and using a cross more, which was almost completely forgotten after season 2).

I don't see anything brave about either the Bangel or Spuffy storylines. They're pretty standard, if with a Joss-twist. Real bravery would be Cluffy (Clem and Buffy), because THAT would upset about everyone (at least those who liked to project themselves into Buffy). If nothing else this makes me laugh really hard, but I could've enjoyed it, might've even enjoyed and celebrated it without all the macho posturing of the other two (and Riley).

'Course making Buffy focused on the mission instead of her boyfriend (gotta give her props for at least putting the mission above her boyfriend in season 2, and then Angel doing the same in reverse in season 3) would be more bravery than most could handle all by itself.

I did a paragraph on the implied "behind the scenes" police dramas as well as on Dawn (especially in season 6), but I guess those are more plot arcs than dynamics, so I deleted them.

Spike and Clem- It would've been nice to have Spike socialise regularly with someone outside the scooby gang who didn't dislike him.

Spike and Joyce- Same as above. They made Spike too Buffy centric which kind of diminished the character in my view.

These are mostly not suitable plotlines for the original TV series but I would love to read some good fanfics/books about these dynamics:

Faith/Tara had Tara not died in S6 and lived through S7 and beyond. I would like to see them getting close as friends. Tara would be the one who helps Faith to learn to let people in by setting healthy boundaries. In this storyline, Tara and Willow wouldn't have come together that easily unlike they did in Entropy. Also, potentials plotline in S7 would take longer time so that we could also have time to explore character dynamics properly. Obviously, in this storyline, the Dark Willow plot would be totally different as well.
Faith/Willow in S7 and beyond as lovers. It would be interesting since they both went down a dark path at some point. Tara dies in S6, Kennedy wouldn't be the love interest for Willow in S7, or she could be there to create some drama between Willow, Faith, and herself lol. (I only recently started to think about this relationship after stumbling upon this thread, and I must say, it would be very interesting to explore.)
Faith/Dawn in S3 period altered by Monks. I am interested in seeing the dynamic between little Dawnie and the unpredictable auntie Faith.
Faith/Dawn in S7 as a continuation built upon what we learn about how S3 was like for these two.
Dawn/Willow/Tara in Summers house when Buffy was gone. Dawn grieving her mom's and sister's loss with her two adoptive moms.

I also would have loved to see some Cordelia/Scoobies dynamic in Buffy S4 onwards. 😞

I also agree with members who want to see more of Willow/Fred dynamic. I haven't seen AtS but I read about Fred and saw the episode where Willow went to help bring Angel back. I wouldn't want them to be romantically linked though, so I don't like the line "I'm seeing someone." by Willow. I would prefer them to be two friends geeking out over their intellectual interests.

Giles/Ethan in Giles' Ripper days. I know, you want it too. 😏

Gunn and Wes - I loved their friendship in S2. In my head it seemed to last for ages but was probably only a few episodes before it got ruined by the silly love triangle with Fred

Giles and Xander - after Buffy started to get more independent of Giles, I would have liked him to develop a father son relationship with Xander, and they were always funny together

Gunn and Gwen - I really enjoyed seeing Gunn interact with someone outside the gang and would have liked to see more of it

Willow with Faith/Fred but as friends not lovers

Spike with anyone but Buffy in S6 + S7. I dont hate Spuffy but just found Spike more interesting when he was riffing of multiple characters (same thing for Spike with Gunn/Wesley in S5 even though I loved his scenes with Angel)

One I think could have been interesting is Wes/Connor in S4. Wes reaching out to him out of guilt that this boy being deeply troubled is partly his fault. Angel being jealous of the bond they have and revealing the ‘baby snatching’ for Connor to reveal he already knew and that he didn’t care because he appreciated Wes being honest and treating him with respect

I’ve not explained it well but it could have been done very well. I can’t think of any interaction between Wes and Connor at all when I think about it

While I like the idea of Wes and Connor having more interaction (especially the idea of Wes taking responsibility for his actions and admitting how they affected Connor's life) I'm uncomfortable with the whole "Angel getting jealous and trying to drive a wedge between them" angle suggested, not least because I just want Angel and Connor to have a good relationship, so am instantly against anything that goes against that, but also because I don't think Angel would deliberately hurt his son (or Wes) like that.

But more Wes and Connor content, absolutely!

I really liked Anya and Andrew dynamics in the last episodes of season 7. The moments they shared together were very brief, but their interactions never failed to lighten the mood (Anya's scolding in the bathroom and the wheelchair fight, to name but a few). They kinda had a brother-sister relationship. Very pleasant to watch. I wish we had more.
