Now we know the REAL reason Willow was upset over Cordy and Xander...how could the love of her life cheat on her with her best friend!?
Hey, Cordy was mean to Xander while secretly kissing him...maybe she was doing the same to Willow (under the guise of "teaching" her how to kiss), either before or during the show! Maybe at the same time as her with Xander (and Willow with Oz)! (Damn, this is some The L Word material! )
lol This is a popular scene to critique and add 'lesbian intrigue' to. I actually think 'Buffering The Vampire Slayer' podcast makes a similar comment.
But a few factors:
Willow and Cordelia not getting along in general before or after.
Willow's genuinely hurt reaction to finding out about Xander being involved with Cordelia; 'its against all laws of god and man', 'you have gross emotional problems' etc.
Willow wouldn't get involved with the girl who bullied her and Cordelia doesn't find victims attractive.
Also Cordelia is probably the least gay female character on the show, so no.
It doesn't need to be a closet. You put any two women together and soon enough they will start comparing (and often complaining about) their men, even if they are completely hetero. Being in a closet doesn't mean you are going to come out of the closet in the LGBT sense. We had one English teacher who was big on symbolism, but symbolism doesn't always work.
There is nothing gay about two girls hiding in closet and praying for survival. In season two, anyways. Season 4, lesbian subtext bell goes off, season 7, it's something Fred says to Willow as a meta joke. Season 10, it's the monster of the week, and it's a evil confessional booth that eats nuns, or something.
