Hello, howdy, and well met, boys and girls. :: tu ::
Storytime.
Just bear with me. I'll get to the point of the thread soon.
About three years ago, I put forth an idea in the House of Raiden. It was supposed to help give the House a boost, a bit of new life where it no longer existed.
My idea was received with great favor, but as it was a little too ambitious and I didn't think it through before I presented it, it sort of crashed (though it didn't altogether burn).
The idea the way it was structured back then was for Raiden to have a sort of live radio station, one whose broadcast subject matter would entail the Buffy/Raiden-centric gamut of Raiden activities such as birthdays, news, competitions, or whatever (as well as mentions of board-wide stuff), presented with lots of music....much like a real life radio station.
The "station" would act as a faux radio station, with volunteer Raiden members DJing their own show/segment under the WRDN banner.
We were going to utilize www.blogtalkradio.com to facilitate all of this, but after getting all of the info on it, it turned out that (as a phone line was required for BlogTalkRadio) it would have ended up costing a lot of money by way of telephone fees, not to mention that BlogTalk is stationed out of New York here in the U.S., which would have made it impossible for our out-of-state and overseas members to use (we had recruited about two or three people out of our previously active 2008 roster of Raiden members to serve as DJ's of their own segment of Raiden Radio) due to the aforementioned problem.
The idea fell dormant.
But in 2010, Raiden had suddenly sprung to life again. The then-Prefect entreatied our long-suffering roster to come up with ideas to help keep us in the sunlight. Many were the ideas, and how great they were. Then I thought back to my dusty old idea, and decided that the time had come once more.
I re-tooled it, and decided to keep it simple if it was ever going to work, and try to evolve it as time went along. Instead of live radio broadcasts, we'd have to do our shows as pre-recorded podcasts, which actually works out better as it allows for flexible DJ-ing and editing of finished product. It was presented to Raiden, and it finally worked.
Thus was born House Raiden's "radio" station....88.1 WRDN-FM (aka" The Storm-FM").
Now, to the point. WRDN was a minor success in Raiden, and now I wanted to take it one step farther.
I recently pitched an idea to my BB Bosses and fellow Staffers that it would be fun for Buffy Boards to have it's own board-wide "radio station" much in the same vein as Raiden's WRDN.
I got the idea from another vBulletin (non-whedon) discussion board I used to go to which has their own very successful "radio station". And I figured if they can do it, why can't the mighty Buffy Boards?
The new "radio station" medium could be utilized for any number of things aside from the main DJed shows....such as commercials for the BB Store, Whedon-talk, tie-ins with the BB Newsletter, audio supplementation of posted Board announcements, tie-ins with Board events such as the House Comps, or yearly events like the "Buffies"....and WHATEVER else we want to use it for.
The difference between BB's "station" and the aformentioned discussion board's shows is that ours would simply be more "radio-centric" and fun (again, like Raiden's WRDN), aping a real radio show, if you will, with music and all of that other good stuff....whereas the other discussion board's shows are mostly pure talk shows with only small doses of generic pod music, if at all. Of course, each DJ are able to tailor their respective shows to their own style/tastes/personality, so if you just want to do a straight talk show without music, you can. It's up to the individual.
The Bosses have approved this project, and after this year's "Buffies", work shall commence on BBRadio (name subject to change).
