So, I'm planning a long way in advance for my 50th birthday celebrations (need to save money)!! There are a few things I want to do if I make it that far!

Meal with MOST of the family together.
Go to Spain and spend some time with my parents.
Have a party with my friends.
Doughnuts and the local pub with @nightshade (she don't know yet!)..
Visit Amsterdam. I really want to see the Anne Frank museum and do a canal touristy trip! I've always wanted to see the Annex & Museum.

So my questions to you;

What else should I see/experience in Amsterdam?
Should nightshade provide the doughnuts and if so where from?
What type of party should I have with my friends (my birthday is in February so no outside parties)!?
Is there anything else I should do?

You can have Krispy Kreme doughnuts from the services like usual :p

Having only been to Amsterdam airport and a random hotel when my flight was delayed I can tell you that it's a lovely airport!

There's also the Van Gogh Museum, I think my eldest said you had to book for both this and the AF museum in advance. You can buy a tourist ticket thingy which gets you into various attractions and includes a canal trip.
I hope so, I hope it's easy to find my way around too!!
He said it was (I haven't been for years and I drove there with someone who knew the area). Get a bus pass (LOL! not because you're 50 but because it's cheaper!)

The AF museum must be busy AF
Have you ever been to Amsterdam? They probably have an AF (in the 2nd sense) museum in the Red Light District. Can't vouch for how busy it is...or whether you have to book in advance.

@Nix Amsterdam tourist attractions and sights | Amsterdam.info

LOL! It even has a tab for the Red Light District that lets you book an escort, a sex show or a prostitute. I'm not suggesting you do but I have to admire the Dutch candour. There's even a Red Light District Pub-crawl.

"It is very likely that you have heard about this neighbourhood and to be frank, everything you have heard is probably true. From brothels to sex shops to museums, the Amsterdam Red Light District has it all. But contrary to what a lot of people might think, the Amsterdam Red Light District has a very friendly atmosphere and isn't as dangerous as it used to be."

My tips from a few days in Amsterdam. Careful with their cannabis cafés if you're not used to it. There's a torture museum, weird place. There's some great parks, look into bike or skate hire if the weather is nice.

Amsterdam used to have much cheaper hotel rooms during the week if you went to the doors . I stayed in one place on multiple visits for years , but once I sussed the mid week prices I went to allsorts of swanky gaffes right in the heart of the 'Dam . Holland is the most confusing country I have ever visited so staying close to the centre is the way to enjoy the city . Nothing is cheap in Holland .

If cannabis culture is your thing head to Barneys Breakfast bar . British friendly , ridiculous menu last time I visited , definitely some of the finest dope you'll find in Amsterdam..or the world ...but it aint cheap , it's just the cream of the selection . The first coffee shop I ever visited as a young man , the Grasshopper , doesn't even sell cannabis anymore . I dunno how they're still open because their food was terrible ..and the weed weren't great either .

Dutch pizza places were next level , family run independent places . Kick Pizza Hut and Domino's arse all day long . They also have these weird coin operated street ovens in the walls that serve perplexing Dutch hot snacks . Have to try that ...because it's nuts :p .

I found the sex trade a bit much in Amsterdam to really enjoy the city . I much preferred the Hague , still everything cool available but not rubbed in your face every five minutes like the Dam .

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is well worth a visit...for The Night Watch alone but they have Vermeers and Van Goghs in there too, as well as loads of other fascinating exhibits. I could've easily spent twice as long in there as I did.

Be careful Nix as they smoke funny ciggies in Amsterdam, or so I've been told. You'd need to be careful as any balance failure could cost quite a bit. Also putting a funny ciggy in Van Goghs mouth might give you the giggles, but .. .. .. .. ..

So when all is done, and all that comment are, you think, over. Some bright spark grins and asks you when is your birthday or can you remember what it was like to be 49 @Nix?
