Although this season only has 12 episodes and no budget, it is still way better than seasons 4 through 7.

1. Prophecy Girl: I love this episode. Goodbye season 1, hello season 2.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Let's gather all the homeless people in LA and put vampire make-up on them :)"

2. Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest: How it all began. Great character introductions, great atmosphere, great writing, simply great. It's a shame the show was seldom great after the 3rd season.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Let's kill off one of the main characters and pretend then he never existed :)"

3. The Pack: Great stand-alone episode. Remember when Xander was interesting before the writers ran out of material for him after season 3?
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Scrap the Werewolf episode. We'll just have a bunch of students possessed by Hyenas :)"

4. Angel: The episode that set up season 2. Although I wish we got more Darla this season.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "No more new vampires until the finale. We will just call the show "Buffy" from now on :)"

5. Nightmares: Great stand-alone episode. One of the most imaginative and unique episodes of the whole series.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Giles' nightmares will be he can't read and he gets lost in the library :)"

6. Witch: Fun stand-alone episode. Although I wish we saw more Buffy as a cheerleader.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "No fighting scenes. Buffy is now a detective show :)"

7. The Puppet Show: Enter Snyder. Above average stand-alone episode but the ending is pretty epic.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Puppets, camera POV work, secondary characters who can't act, you know the usual... :)"

8. Never Kill A Boy on the First Date: Weak vampire episode but we get more Angel and more of the Master. Side note, why are grown men still in High School?
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Let's a hire a kid to be the baddie and pay him with lollypops :)"

9. Teachers Pet: Xander's dream in the intro is hilarious and by far the best part.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Kill the lights and we will use a giant sock pocket as the demon :)"

10. Out of Mind, Out of Sight: The episode picks up steam when Cordy becomes someone we start to identify with. But being another Monster of the week episode, in a season with essentially just Monster of the week episodes, this one just wasn't for me.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Let's do an episode with an invisible foe. No makeup, no special effects. We will do the demons next season provided we have some more money :)"

11. I Robot, You Jane: My problem with this episode is not its theme but its lack of energy. Overall it's pretty snoozeworthy but the scenes with Jenny are still pretty cool.
- "Hi Joss. How do we save money this week?"
- "Easy, we replace the demon with text messages :)"

1. The Puppet Show (I'm a sucker for a living doll episode)
2. Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest (Enjoy both equally)
3. Nightmares (A really strong horror episode)
4. Prophecy Girl (Love the apocalyptic feel of this one)
5. Witch (This one's just really fun)
6. Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight (The metaphor in this is really strong and Marcie makes for a really threatening 'villain')
7. Angel (I like the interaction between Buffy and Angel and the ending is really nice; however something always feels off with it - not sure why)
8. Teacher's Pet (A fairly silly idea actually done quite well)
9. I Robot, You Jane (A guilty pleasure: 'I'm jacked in...' is brilliant)
10. Never Kill A Boy On The First Date (Always found this a bit dull but the ending between Buffy and Giles is excellent)
11. The Pack (Not terrible but not anything special either. Plus Willow has her heart stomped on and I will not stand for it)

I actually find the first season to be really underrated. It's story arc is just OK but the episodes are a lot of fun and the variety on display is really lovely.

First time posting on here in a VERY long while, as I've only recently started doing another rewatch. This is the first time in about four years that I've watched BtVS (much more of an AtS person), but it's definitely been enjoyable, and interesting to see how my opinions have changed (on characters, not just episodes).

1. Out of Mind, Out of Sight: Absolutely fantastic allegory in this one, and it's nice to finally see Cordelia get something to do this season.
2. Prophecy Girl: The first finale is still one of my favourites, and definitely feels like a step up after the pretty tame events throughout this season. I've always liked the big practical effect monster that comes out of the floor at the end, but the scene that really stood out to me this time was when Buffy screams at Giles and Angel after learning she's going to die. SMG plays it really, really well.
3. Nightmares: Fairly typical horror plot, but done really effectively, with some standout moments from the season.
4. Witch: Again, a really strong allegory - one of the series' best, although hyper Buffy is still kind of annoying.
5. The Puppet Show: Not so much of a sucker for a living doll story anymore. I love this one because it subverts expectations so expertly. Plus, the comedy with Giles and Cordelia is fantastic, and Snyder makes a great first appearance.
6. The Harvest: Better, more engaging, and (slightly) less goofy than the first episode.
7. Angel: As a massive Angel fan, this really appeals to me, but whenever we get glimpses of Angel's history and character on BtVS, it always feels like the diet version of something with far more substance. AtS exists, and is phenomenal, and stuff like this feels watered down in comparison. Obviously, they were still finding their feet though, so I can forgive it.
8. Never Kill a Boy on the First Date: Far better than I remembered it, with some great Van Helsing moments for Giles, and that ending is still superb. No idea what Buffy sees in Owen, though. The guy seems very judgmental and constantly bangs on about death. Not very attractive qualities as far as I'm concerned.
9. Welcome to the Hellmouth: Oh, boy, it's hard to cover this one. Fantastic pre-credits scene, great introductions to the characters, the lore, the tone of BtVS, but it's dated pretty badly.
10. I Robot, You Jane: Again, dated horribly, and I can't put this any higher on my ranking, but for pure entertainment value, this is up there with the best of the season.
11. The Pack: Good allegory, but still something feels off about this. It buggers my critical faculties, and I wish I could articulate what it is about this one I've never taken to, but for whatever reason, I can't.
12. Teacher's Pet: Completely ridiculous, but in many ways more entertaining than The Pack. I put this lower simply because it's more messily plotted, and has no real allegory to speak of - and if it does, it's a fairly lacklustre comment on teen male sexuality.

Again, I really enjoy this season for its campy moments and sense of fun. No other season of the show (apart from Season 4, maybe) ever feels quite as FUN as this one. It's not the best, but it has some great episodes, introduces the characters and the world of the show well, and has a great villain in the Master. It's dated, yes, but it still has a lot of charm.
