Freaks (2019) - 11/10
Holy. Mother. of. Chuck.

I saw Endgame earlier this year and it was amazing. Then I saw Please Stand By and decided that was the best film I'd seen this year. I was sooo wrong. I'm not even gonna say too much, because this needs to be seen without knowing much about it. I saw the trailer beforehand but it's (thankfully) not one that shows everything nor does it give any real idea of what's coming.

Which is a great frickin' screenplay, one of the best child performances I've ever seen and a constant tension that never fully lets down, from beginning to end.

Watch it!

The Purge - 7/10
A lot more entertaining than I thought it would be and very tense/suspenseful at times. I really liked this film and found it very effective.

(Re-watch) Jumanji - 6/10
Solidly entertaining, a very fun 90s romp and Robin Williams is always good value. The shine wears off a bit as one gets older, but still a fun film.

(Re-watch) Jurassic Park - 10/10
This movie is brilliant. Love it more and more every time I re-watch.

(Re-watch) Beauty & The Beast (1991) - 8/10
Disney needs to leave the Renaissance Era alone, these films are so good!!! This one is so beautiful and heartwarming and the Live Action remake felt so hollow by comparison.

Frozen 2 - 9/10

I loved it! The ending was a bit predictable, but other than that it was a great emotional rollercoaster of a film.

Saw "The Book Thief"/"Die Bücherdiebin" yesterday, on my teenagers suggestion. If the director could measure the tears shed by me, he would consider it a complete success. I am a tear machine when it comes to such dramas. I'd rate it lower than the teen would, though, as it was a little too predictable. 7/10, perhaps. 10/10 for it's suitability for watching something serious with the kiddo, though.

Entertaining and stylish action thriller. Has that classic 1970's French Connection/Assault on Precinct sort of feel. Chadwick Boseman is great in the lead. Solid support from Sienna Miller and J.K. Simmons.

Knives Out - 2 thumbs way up. A quirky whodunnit with an all star cast. Check it out sometime. :)

Faster - 7/10

A guy gets out of jail after serving ten years for a robbery he took part in to help his brother out who got into too much debt with the wrong mob. He had been set up and he was taking revenge on the people who set him up. Here's the kicker - the guy taking revenge is Dwayne Johnston, usually the hero in most movies. Decent action but not all that great.

Batman Returns (1992) 8/10
I have a love-hate relationship with this film. Liked it the first time, hated it the second and liked it again this time. Great acting even though it gets weird at times. It’s an improvement over Batman 1989, as the characters are more complex and interesting. It’s a unique superhero film, as the villains get more screen time than the superhero and it’s refreshing to see things from their perspective. As an added bonus, it works as a Christmas movie.

Ladybird - thumbs down. Every awful teen girl stereotype wrapped up in a boring movie. The lead actress was SO much better in Brooklyn, which was frankly a better movie all round, proving that the drama genre does not have to be awful and boring.

Black Christmas (2019) 2/10

And suddenly the 2006 remake doesn't look so bad... Its biggest crime might be trying to make Imogen Poots frumpy (and pretending she's college age, she's 30!). Oh what am I saying, its biggest crime is IT SUCKS BALLS!! The WTF is happening ending maybe the highlight. Before then I was struggling not to nod off...

Marriage Story - good movie, but like some Baumbach movies, not the best for multiple viewings.
BTW - don't think I'm giving anything away, if you've seen the trailer, but a better title might've been: Divorce Story. ;)

Knives Out 7/10

Captain America and James Bond in a murder mystery. Well, Steve Evans and Daniel Craig, anyway. Actors like to try diverse role in order to avoid type casting and toprove that they aren't just one trick pony, and both Steve and Daniel do that pretty well here. Entertaining without resorting to gratuitous violence, gore, or nudity. Pretty good way to spend an evening if you like sitting in the dark and eating very salty popcorn.

King Arthur: Legend of the sword - 7/10
Ok, this wasn’t as bad as everyone suggested it was. My rating is a little high but that is based on enjoyment and not the quality of it. I’m quite happy that someone went with the fantasy side of the legend, rather than a historical tale for the 300th time. It was a bit confusing who was who at first because the names from the legend were given to different people. The fight scenes were very good and I liked the weird monsters, also acting is very good too. I also had no idea what was going on for half the film but that might have been me being stupid. They used elephants too which kind of takes you out of it, since it’s King Arthur it would have been a better choice to use dragons. If you forget pure watching King Arthur it’s a pretty fun blockbuster.
It’s not an amazing film, but if this was a video game it would have been epic.
