People that say how Dune is nothing more than a white savior story just irritate me to no end. Even the latest movie presented itself as opposite of that. And god forbid you actually read and comprehend the book.

Eh, I can see how they can arrive at that conclusion. Paul really does just show up and save the day, whilst also becoming a messiah to the Fremen.

The real reason it isn’t a white savior story is because of the effects of the jihad that we see in the following books. If someone just read the first, I wouldn’t blame them for thinking that. The consequences are all in the follow-ups.

Frankly I just found the first book so dreadfully boring that I couldn’t finish it after the time skip. I Wikipedia’d the rest and the next two books. The first peaks with the dinner scene early in the book, and after Paul and his mother are in the desert it just slows to a glacial pace.

Exactly! The Bene Gesserit planted myths about the "savior" on more than one planet as a safety measure for any Sister, just in case. The inhabitants were primed to accept any Bene Gesserit who might need "a way in." Jessica and Paul certainly filled that role...but NO ONE expected Paul to actually be the Kwisatz Haderach.

I prefer Continental Philosophy to Anglo-American Analytical but, TBH, I don't understand any of them in their entirety so I pinch useful bits and conveniently ignore the rest. Luce Irigaray is the one I find easiest to read.

I used to have a MAJOR eating.disorder. I got so thin, I wore a Barely-A cup bra.. You could see my ribs and clavicles. My doctor was CONVINCED that I was on street drugs. He'd give me drug tests, which I didn't mind at all. I knew they'd come back negative. I was a chubby kid, and when I got skinny, it was a dream come true. I barely ate, and exercised compulsively.
