Why wasn't there a Ripper spinoff?

Hi all,
New to the boards, not the verse. With that said I haven't taken the time to read every post or question...again, apologies. So, question is why wasn't a series ever created about Giles? There were rumors about a spinoff called "Ripper". U all know the season / ep that I'm referring to.

If this is the wrong area to post this rhetorical rant...let me know

It just never materialized. The same thing with the Spike tv movies. The actors were up for it, but it did not happen. :/

Welcome to the boards! It looks like there were plans for separate shows that featured Giles, Spike and Faith but the only one we got was Angel. Faith went on to do Tru Calling, a non-Jossverse show that lasted two seasons.

My understanding was that the BBC was on board with it, but Joss was having trouble securing the rights to Giles. The BBC lost interest once Doctor Who came back. Joss will still indicate interest from time to time.
