Favorite episode of season one is Nightmares, specially when I saw the face of Buffy as a vampire. It was really interesting to see to what extent Buffy was afraid of her future with Angel..

In this episode, Buffy was buried alive by The Master and she came back to life as a vampire, but alive. This is a sign about the last episode of season one when The Master killed her but she only drown. So, she was alive.

Joss Whedon was so swag !

Prophecy Girl because of everything about it. Buffy hearing that she's going to die when she faces off with The Master was heartbreaking. The "I'm only 16 Giles, I don't wanna die" line got me. But she goes through with it and after dying, defeats the master in true Buffy form. Loved everything about that episode.

Teacher's Pet (I loved the science teacher before he got eaten by the she-mantis!), Angel (It was a beautiful episode, even though I greatly prefer Spuffy), and The Pack (Truly a frightening episode, especially when Xander forced himself on Buffy).

I re-watched Never Kill A Boy On The First Date the other day and I realized during the ending, that this is when it starts to get serious. Buffy realizes how serious her calling is and how others can get hurt from it, and has to make hard choices. I guess I didn't remember that revelation coming that early!

My favorites are Angel and The Prophecy Girl, although I really like The Puppet Show too.

My favorites are Angel, followed by Prophecy Girl and The Puppet Show. The Pack always grossed me out, and Xander was extremely creepy in it, which makes me appreciate the joker character he is more :D

My favorite would be Prophecy girl because I love the final confrontation with The Master and the scene where she learn that she's going to die is brilliantly acted.
Plus, I love when she embraces her destiny as the slayer.

I would probably have to say The Pack. It's a Xander episode for a start, but it's also the first episode in which we see the main trio go through personal issues (albeit it mystical) which they manage to over-come. It's the first time we really see how strong the friendship is between them.

Prophecy Girl or The Puppet Show, depending on if I want drama or humour respectively. These eps push all the right buttons!

Definitely have to go with Prophecy Girl. Such a brilliant episode that does a great job of rounding off the series arc.

    the unaired pilot of course!

Just kidding! If I had to name just one episode, I would say The Puppet Show too. Like Tome said, this episode really did a good job of not revealing the cards, so to speak. When I watched it, I really thought that Sid was the demon.

Prophecy Girl, for me. I love every second of that episode. It was an incredible way to bring the season to a close. Other faves of mine are Welcome To The Hellmouth, Witch, The Pack, Angel, The Puppet Show, and Nightmares.

Out of Mind, Out of Sight was always one of my favourites of S1. It's just the right mixture of silliness and seriousness. :p

The Puppet Show. I liked the Murder Mystery aspect of the episode how they reference classic horror movies like Child's Play and Magic. And it is just one of the most entertaining of the early episodes, with good banter between Giles and Buffy/Willow/Xander and of course Snyder at his sacastic best! The ending is skillfully handled too.

Out of Mind, Out of Sight is a close second. I also really liked the darkness of Nightmares, and Prophency Girl was a fitting end to the season.

I love season 1. For me it's underrated and overall had really great writing and lines - some of it was campy, but in an ironic and fun way. It's very rewatchable in retrospect. Though, I'm unsure that if I started from season 1, I would be sold on the series. I regret that it's not possible to erase my memory and watch Buffy from season 1 and the whole series in order and see if that changes how I viewed the series. Having watched the whole series and each episode a number of times, I do think season 1 is better than its generally given credit for.

A far as favourite episode -- Even though I like the season as a whole a lot, oddly, I don't really have a favourite episode that comes to mind for that season. Season 1 is somehow very consistent in quality and vibe to me even though it's mainly standalone episodes.

laianna: So true! Rewatching from the start for the first time and I'm so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed season 1! Well, of course it was great... There's a reason we all kept watching!

I really thought it'd be easier to choose. I hadn't realized that I like so many standalones episodes in season 1!

I'm torn between The Puppet Show and Out of Sight, Out of Mind...
I think I'll go for the later.
But Nightmares is a good one too, I believe. Maybe not the best written or acted, but it's a good first insight in the characters' personalities, and it's a solid one.
