The vampire rushed at her. She crouched, sweeping his legs out from under him, causing him to fall onto his back. She staked him with ease, then jumped up to face the remaining vamps who were still simply watching her. “Don’t worry, you’ll see him again soon.”

The scarred vampire chuckled. “So glib.” He gestured at the other male vampire. This one gave her a smile then promptly broke Ash’s neck, letting his body slide to the ground in front of him.

Buffy gasped and ran at the vamp. Dodging his punches, she staked him as she had done his comrade. She then turned to the vamp with the scar. He came towards her. She kicked at him; he evaded her. He punched her; she dodged. She finally landed a punch, and he staggered backwards for a second, allowing her to land another kick. He slapped her with the back of his hand across the face, and she fell. He stood over her, reaching down to her for the kill, but she put both feet into his chest pushing him away, then jumped to her feet and plunged the stake into his heart. As he turned to dust she wheeled, and saw the female vamp with her back turned to Buffy. She ran to her and staked her from the back, catching Alex’s body as the vamp’s disintegrated. As the two sank to the floor, Alex spoke. “I thought you were supposed to slay them…” Her eyes closed.
