Buffy stepped into Steel alone, and feeling very alone at that. Her thoughts kept drifting back to the boy who was killed…killed by vampires she knew, but still tried to justify her new philosophy on such matters. That they had existed for thousands of years…that people were killed all the time…that she couldn’t save everybody. But in the back of her mind still there was something nagging at her, something that told her it wasn’t quite right.
Suddenly Danica and her gang of clones were beside her. Danica linked arms with Buffy. “Since you’re from LA I’m going to forget your little episode earlier today. But anymore freaky behavior and you’re out, got it? Okay.” The group sat down in one of the lounge areas, and Danica began trashing everyone she saw. “Oh please, I’d die before I’d wear clothes from a department store…”

Buffy started to zone out. She was used to hanging with the popular crowd, it’s true, but truth was she wasn’t feeling any less alone now that she wasn’t, well, alone. She looked around at the bodies bustling around her. She noticed a group heading for the door. There was something about them…something wrong…and then she knew. She knew what they were. Old Buffy would have ran after them. But she wasn’t that girl anymore. At least, that’s what she told herself.

She noticed Ash coming towards her, looking a bit frantic. “Buffy…”

Danica stopped mid-gossip and gave him a disgusted look. With a wave of her hand she dismissed him, “Begone. Now.”

He looked at her and paused a moment, then turned back to Buffy. “Have you seen Ally? I was supposed to help her with Chem, but she never showed up. It’s not like her…I’m really worried.”

Buffy shook her head and started to reply, but Danica cut her off. “Who cares about your little friend? She’s weird. Probably off doing whatever weird unpopular girls do. It’s not our problem.” She turned to Buffy and continued pointedly. “Is it?”

Buffy looked uncomfortably from Ash to Danica, then back again. “No. It’s not,” she said softly. Ash looked like he’d been punched in the stomach. He nodded, and walked away.

“What a geek,” Danica said laughing, but Buffy hardly heard her.
