"What BB Means To Me"

Instead of making this an essay contest or something, we thought it would be nice if people could just post their thoughts on this question informally. So, what does BB to you?

Mostly to me, it means that I can come here and talk about my interest in, and enjoyment of, the work of Joss Whedon, primarily Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, with people who share my interests without someone saying, "For God's sake, Joe, you're SIXTY YEARS OLD! Get yourself a life!"

I could say that to you, if you miss it 😉

BB for me is a home and a family. Everyone here is absolutely incredible and I've said it once and will say it again, without you guys I know I wouldn't be the person I am today. Some of you already know I don't exactly come from a stable environment and the fact that I can come here and talk to you all means more to me than I can say. BB is my safety net and I love every single one of you. You guys are my family and I thank you for it!

I like BB because it gives me an escape from work! I can come and talk to people from all over the world knowing that we all have a special bond thru our love of the whedonverse. I have felt so welcome since I joined a few weeks ago and look forward to reading the discussions and put in my two cents without ridicule 🙂 Thanks BB 🙂

I'm pretty new but I already feel at home here. The BB means having a place to come and discuss a few shows that no one else in my real life likes and not have to listen to my husband tease me about it (although he did listen and comment on a long, fairly one sided discussion about Firefly, Serenity and how much I loathe Fox for canceling all the good shows, lol, and with very little snark on his part).

I love BB because I can share all my thoughs with people who understand and i can get away from most of the problems in my everyday life. Just escape into the Buffyverse! Everyone here is great and thats what makes Buffy Boards special to me!🙂

To me, the BB is like my safe haven. When I'm out and about I feel like people are judging me, and here, I just don't. I'm always misunderstood, but here, people actually take time to get to know you, that's what I love about this place 🙂

Like many here, to me BB is family. It's a place to kick back, to take a breather and just be yourself. We have so many different personalities and ages here, yet all anyone really cares about here is the person you are and what you have to say. It doesn't matter if you're a mom, a cable salesman, twenty or ninety one years old-- everyone is going to treat you right. A tight-knit group that's always moving forward 🙂

Definitely a diamond in the rough!

Well I'm not the most active poster on here, as I'm not the best with putting my words down on paper, or in this case.. screen. And I often write replies to posts or threads but then read over what I've said and think it sounds stupid! But I do read nearly every thread that is made, and thats what BB means to me. It's somewhere where I can come and theres always plenty of threads and topics for me to read and to think about, and I often find myself laughing or smiling at posts on here without realising, and I really should respond more!

Since I've joined the boards there has been few days when I haven't come and visited and read most threads and replied to a few. If I didn't have BB now, well, I don't know what I'd do!

And see, I read this post over just then and thought it sounded silly, but I've posted it anyway!

BB is just completely different from any other board on the net and that's why I love it.
Most others tend to have a certain age group or a pettiness or sometimes they just become inactive (plus as Tara said sometimes the spelling is really bad and it's kinda depressing).
Here it's a diverse age range from all over the world and we're just a great group'a people (Oh you know it) Here I can just be the Buffy-Obsessed person that I am without getting the looks of 'You do know that show has been over for a while now? Get over it!'. I can make Buffy references without causing confusion and it's just a nice tight-knit community where Spuffies and Bangels get along side by side (Mostly.....haha). And there's a real feeling of friendship here.
I don't think I've gotten 'into' a board as much as I have this one and I suspect I'll be posting on it into little old ladyhood (almost anyway haha). This board is just....comfy. That's the only word I can think of. Haha.

BB means a whole lot to me.

As I entered my new school last year, I could tell that I couldn't just come out and say that I love Buffy like I did in the school I went to before. At this new school, if I walked around going, "Yo! Buffy is my passion!", I'd get called the "f" word (and NOT the one that rhymes with "yuck") and possibly beaten up. (I can handle myself, though, for I know Buffy-Fu!) No one gives Buffy a chance. It's either "gay" or "stupid..."

But thank God I have you guys, for without you, I don't have to watch an episode of Buffy every day to have it fresh in my head. I know the whole series by heart and you guys have just made my love for Buffy grow so SO much. And like Slayer Comma The said, there are lots of boards that are just too cliquey. I was a member of a Charmed board once where everyone was stuck up and sorta snotty -- but only to the newbs and the outsiders! (Which was me...) I felt welcome here immediately.

I don't care how cheesy this sound, but in my mind, my heart, and my soul, I wouldn't ever discount any of you as my friends, because you all are. You're my real life friends that I can talk to, trust...I don't know how to explain it, but I felt like I needed to.

I love me some BB! 😀

BB to me means a second home. A second home where I can be myself. I get my nerd-freak-on with other people; people who understand why BtVS isn't just a teveshow. It's a friggin way of life. This is a place where I get to be nerdy, geeky, goofy, serious, intellectual - all at once! I come here to laugh, to giggle, snicker and sneer (that's not often, but hey it happens). This is a place where I've found friends that I want to keep forever. Friends whom I talk to practically every day, friends whom I've known for years and years and have been there for me through my ups and downs. This is a place where I get to practice my english and learn new words. This is also a place where I'm constantly learning new ways of understanding everything that is Whedonverse.

This is a place where the Mods and Admins are part of the community; people whom I occasionally talk to, laugh or debate with on the many threads and forums. That's why I always feel safe to express your oppinions around here, and I never hesitate to help the staff out if possible.

And last but definitely not least; this is a place where I get to be a proud Merrickan; and share all kinds of crazyness with my fellow dorm mates.

Eh, it's a place where the rules are lax, the people are nice and non-confrontational and it's dedicated to my two favourite series' in the world. What's not to love?

Honestly this is going to sound extremely stupid to some people... but... My step dad recently cut off my internet because i'm pregnant and he thinks i'm a slut for it and its a long horrible story but my mom is letting him basically screw my life up to a point because it means i still have a place to stay agian long story anyways....

At first the lack of the net was fine but with every day that passes it sounds stupid but it just upsets me so much more... I have met so many great people on these boards and have shared so many memories and stories and i've had so many of these people help me through real life problems. These boards are really like a 2nd or 3rd home to me and not many people understand that.... I mean I love to come on here and read what people are thinking and have debates and just relax and get away from my problems and thats what i love about BB is the fact that no matter how horrible your day has been you just get on here and talk to those people who just instantly make a funny comment that not many others would get but it just makes you smile and forget that life sucks sometimes even if its just for a minute.... Out of all the years i've been on here i cant imagine being away from this place for too long. You guys really do give me that peace of mind sometimes that i need more than anything.

Sappy yes but all true... BB means alot to me not just as a reminder of a show i still love to this day but also as something to help me just get away...

BB is my home away from home. simple as that. it's the place i come to be myself, where i can throw off the facade i wear everyday and just be myself, because i know people won't judge me for being me.

it's the place i come to talk to my friends, some of which i can't imagine my life without. if i have a problem, i know exactly who i can talk to to help me sort it out.

it's my place to relax after a long day at work, reading through all the posts and hearing peoples opinions on things. even though the shows are over, someone new always comes along and offers a different opinion on a certain topic, and the debate will start all over again with renewed interest, and i can get caught up in the discussion again and escape from the real world for just a little while.

it's the place i post my fanart, because i know the people here will give me their honest opinions, and tell me how i can improve, or how to do things differently. i know that everyone will have something productive to say, even if they don't like what i've done. i never get flamed here, because i know you guys are more mature than to dump all over something someone has spent hours, maybe days creating. and for that i'm so grateful.

it's the place i come to get my geek on, and talk about the shows i've watched dozens of times over, and still see something new, which immediatly makes me think 'Gotta see what everyone on BB makes of this' 'cause i know you guys are just as obsessed as i am. and without you guys, there would be no BB.

Buffy Summers created such an amazing home for all of us, and i cannot thank her enough for that. without her, we wouldn't be here, writing things like this, and there would be no BB to mean anything to us.

For me BB is a place to come and chill. Even if i've got a just a few minutes to look at a few new posts or a couple of hours to read fanfic or an in-depth discussion about some controversial topic, there is always something going on, something interesting to read or share. I like this place because most people are really cool, disagreements or differences of opinion are handled with respect and friendliness (even the ongoing shipping 'wars' and that's saying something). I hate boards that are racked with bitterness and in-fighting!! So, i spose i like the BB because it is friendly and its a place where i can come and talk about one of my favourite topics in the world! Thanks🙂
