Sounds like things are starting to go into motion on Wonder Woman.

THE SKINNY: Joss Whedon was on hand at last night's Saturn Awards in Los Angeles, accepting an award for his SERENITY actress Summer Glau. Whedon, the creator and writer of many things including BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, FIREFLY, and SERENITY is currently working on a script for WONDER WOMAN. Here's what he told iF MAGAZINE about his progress on that job:

"It's sort of shifting under me," says Whedon. "I'm doing more rewriting on this than I am used to. Finding her was fun, and finding the structure of the film was incredibly difficult and fun. I am not bringing in any villains that anyone knows. I will not be bringing in any of the rogues gallery from the comic book. The villain is original to the film."

Wonder Still Drafting

Joss Whedon, who is slated to direct a proposed Wonder Woman feature film, told SCI FI Wire that he has turned in a draft script to producers, who have given him their usual "notes," or comments. "I did [turn it in] to the producers, not to the studio yet," Whedon said in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Universal City, Calif., on May 2. "I'm working on revisions now. ... It's business as usual. I'm writing and that's all."

Whedon added that it's possible an announcement on the film could come later this year. As for a possible start date, Whedon said: "You know, they have to tell me that. And until I actually give it to the studio, I can't [say]. This is taking longer to write than things usually do, and there's some reasons for that. Not all of them are my incredible incompetence. But some of them are. But the script is coming together in a way that's actually even surprising me, so I'm pretty excited. So we'll just have to wait."

Whedon declined to discuss casting of the film. Whedon attended the Saturn Awards to accept a movie best supporting acting award on behalf of Summer Glau, who co-starred in Whedon's SF movie Serenity. "”Patrick Lee, News Editor

This is from the same series of Saturn night interviews I think, but it accents some stuff.

Here's an odd and somewhat unexpected bit of news from Joss Whedon regarding his script work on Wonder Woman. Apparently, Joss is going to avoid using any of the classic Wonder Woman villains in his new story, instead opting to create a new nemesis. Joss has admitted to struggling more with this script than with anything he has previously written, because the studio has asked him to do quite a bit of rewriting. Whether or not the decision to go with a new hero comes from Joss or the studio is still unknown (if you've heard any info on that, please let us know).

Something worth noting here I think. Joss says he has nothing to do with casting. Does that mean we should stop hoping for Charisma or Morena.

Whedon Gives Wonder Woman Update

June 19, 2006

Wizard has published a great interview in which Brian Michael Bendis asked Joss Whedon questions about a variety of subjects. The Wonder Woman came up:

WHEDON: I am having enormous trouble with the ["Wonder Woman" movie] script. It's going very well and I'm loving life, but because it's only at script stage and there will be no discussion of casting before, I don't really deal with that. No, it's weird, I'm in my office and it's just me.

WHEDON: It's kept me busy for a long time. I'm finally finishing the second draft. I'm very happy with it, but wow! Wow, this one was like pulling teeth. It's tough. I would watch "Batman Begins" and just grumble, just b*tch and moan, because he's got everything. He's got so much of the work done for him. He's got the best rogues' gallery. He's got the best origin story. Wonder Woman is a lot more to figure out. But it's coming together.

I read that Joss didnt want anyone from Buffy/Angel/Firefly to play her. SO surely if he has nothing to do with casting, now theres actually a better chance of Charisma or Morena?

Why would you not ant buffyverse/firefly actors? They are so cool

Because more than likely, Joss wants to move away from the Buffyverse. Show he can do other things too and not be associated with the same characters for the rest of his career. Like most actors dont want to be typecast. Its probably the same for him.

See, here's the problem I have with member written reference sites like TV.Com and Wikipedia. They often report rumours as fact, yet you're forced to give them a bit of credibility, because most of their stuff is based on fact. I have a similar bitch with Buffy Magazine, the old Buffy.nu, and oh yeah...IMDB.com.

So anyway there's this rumour that keeps popping up saying Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra is in contract negotiations to do Wonder Woman.

IMDB.com and Wikipedia are stating that as fact.

Apparently Chopra is the the Miss World winner who when asked ""Which "living" woman do you admire the most?" replied, "Mother Teresa", Mother Teresa had been dead for 3 years at the time of the question.

I don't know maybe this is news. Maybe it's just rumour. Whatever...

Here's a link to one reporting of the story, if you're interested

Edit;

Simon from Whedonesque gives what seems to me to be a reasonable explanation concerning the history of this rumour here -

http://simonf.livejournal.com/185523.html

In fact here's the people at Whedonesque discussing false Wonder Woman casting * "news" *

http://whedonesque.com/comments/10773#132270

And here's another bogus piece of * "news" * from IMDB.com saying Morena Baccarin refused the role.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451279/trivia

Seriously IMDB is getting bad. You have to double-check everything you hear there. And Wikipedia isn't far behind IMHO. The all-time champ though for bogus rumours reported as fact (again IMHO) is Buffy Magazine.

Wonder Woman Producer Joel Silver had some comments to make on how Wonder Woman's coming along.

"Joss is getting closer on the script," reveals Silver. "When we have a good script we all like, at that point the studio will agree to make it and we'll go from there. He's doing a good job. He's utilizing the lore of the material and it's an origin story, so you're dealing with the origin of the story. He's a very talented writer and he has a great story and ideas and moving our way toward making the movie and maybe next year we can start talking about the movie here."

For Silver, the biggest challenge of bringing WONDER WOMAN to the screen is finding a movie that works not only for fans, but for mainstream audiences as well.

"It's finding the kind of movie that will appeal to everyone," says Silver. "It has to work , and it has to have a good character in WONDER WOMAN and be clever and it has to draw you in. Of these three [D.C.] characters. Superman is an alien, Batman is a tough guy and Wonder Woman is a goddess, so you have to work your way through the process."

And while speculation as to who will play the Amazonian goddess has been heating up even before a script is delivered, Silver reveals that there are more benefits to casting an unknown in the lead.

"Probably," he says. "She's young, I don't think it can be someone you've heard of. Once we have the template of the girl, we'll be able to find her."

Sounds like they're another step closer. Joss posted this at Whedonesque.

And since I haven't posted (anything real) in some time let me bring y'all up to speed. The Brothers Warner HAVE read Wondy Gal, and are arranging a meeting to tell me that it is a perfect crystalline gem and I must not change a word, nay, not a syllable. I'm certain that's how it will go.

This comes with a wink smilie I'm sure, nevertheless, I want to believe it.
