Adventures at the NYCC
James
So I went to the comic con . . . Woodburning in purse and went to the desk and asked where the signings were going on.
First place we went was to James' table. His manager was super impressed with the wood burning and asked all kinds of questions about it before I got up to James. When we got there he shook my husbands hand, then my hand asked what was up and Mike was like not much and then pointed at me and said, she's really nervous. And he did he "Oh I love that" that he usually does when people are nervous.
He asked if we were going to his show later and we said we couldn't because we had a family thing to do. And then he talked a lot about his family and how awesome family is.
And he was so focused on that, that it took him a while to realize what he was signing.
And it was kinda cool because he's left handed so his hand was over the burning and I saw the moment that he stopped and focused on it. He stopped in the middle of signing and moved his hand to look at it better and said "Did you make this?" and I said "umm . . . yeah" and he said "Jesus!" in a sort of hushed but awesome way that made it seem like he thought it was really cool.
And then my husband . . . and I didn't know he was planning this . . asked if James could hug me . . . which I knew he wasn't allowed to, and James looked so uncomfortable at having to say no that I actually felt bad for him. Like really bad, but he said he was spirit hugging us both. And we laughed and he seemed ok then.
So here is the pic of that:
I got my pic taken with him later that day but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post that pic since I am in it?
But that was a cool experience too. He shook my hand at the beginning and end and he really has a way of making you feel like he appreciated that you were there and he's really focused. He really looks at you when you talk to him. It's a bit intense.
I blushed so much that my face kind of matched the ridiculously red shade of my hair.
Eliza
I made a woodburning for her to sign too and I was nervous about that as well. She's so beautiful. It's a little bit stunning.
Got up to the front for her and asked if she'd sign my work and she asked, "Who did this?" and I said that I did.
And she said it was rad!!! ELIZA told me it was RAD!!!!!! I about died of happy and she asked where I wanted her to sign it and I showed her and she asked if blue was ok and I said that was fine. So she signed it and I was like, glowing . . . and she said it was REALLY rad again before I left. "really rad" was said to me about by work by Eliza!!!
Obviously I'm still really happy about this. It's going up in my library in a place of honor!
Mike shook her hand before we left and he said "She felt pretty . . ." in this dreamy voice that was hilarious.
This scan this burning . . . doesn't really do it justice, it looks much more like her in person. But here it is. 😀
Jewel
I let my husband take point on this one. He told her that he had a crush on her when he was a kid and she was on Flash Forward on Disney. And that he made his parents pay to get Disney so that he could watch it.
And she laughed and said "Way back in the day when you had to pay for Disney huh?"
And he was like . . . " 😀 . . . Yeah"
It was adorable.
Clare
She was super super super nice. I got her autograph and a picture taken with her. And I was still nervous but she was just, so nice, that I couldn't stay nervous for long.
She asked if we were having fun and we told her it was our first time there. She said it was her first time at NYCC too. And I picked a picture of Glory for her and said I liked that pic and she said that she did too.
And she signed it "Be a God" which I thought was cute. And I gave her my e-mail because she's starting a website and she'll send me stuff about it as it gets built.
Was a totally awesome weekend.
The hubby and I had totally planned to go on Sunday and do a lot more stuff, but he ended up getting this awful chest cold and he was having trouble breathing the more we walked. He also met Stan Lee. I'm pretty sure he can die happy now that he's done that. He was in a daze for like a half an hour afterwards.
But yeah. Totally awesome all around. Everyone was so nice, it was crazy.
