So, yeah, Act 3 dropped my jaw a little. Who am I kidding... Penny died. No more frozen yogurt for you girl. Blown up bit of freeze ray to the chest. Sniff, sniff. My jaw assumed it's customary Joss watching position on a trajectory floorward, eyes spinning like pinwheels, and I thought to myself..."I need popcorn". Snapped back to reality just in time to read the credits.

Admit it, those credits were fun.

Even the Horse got a credit. His name is Dobber.

That girl Maurissa Tancharoen is Jed Whedon's girlfriend, right? She was a co-writer. Jed and Maurissa are also doing Dollhouse, I hear. She was one of the groupies. The groupies had good singing voices.

And other than Dobber, and Maurissa there was...

Marti
David
Drew Goddard
Doug Petri
Ben Edlund got a credit for something.

They were all fun, but best was the triumphant return of Mutant Enemy Guy. Has anybody ever had the kahunas to call him MEG?

nope think you're the first to call him MEG :p
I sort of forgot to comment about the music.. I actually didn't enjoy all the songs, or even tolerate them well actually. Especially the 'everyone's a hero' one in act 3.. kinda sucked. Wish Dr Horrible freeze ray'd him sooner. Noticed someone on another board said they just hated the music.
I loved the story and the acting etc, so I just stuck with it.. but yeah got to agree, some of the songs were well below normal Joss standards.

Yeah, I didn't like "Everyone's A Hero" either...
I think 'Everyone's a Hero' was kinda meant to suck in it's own way, it being Captain Hammer's song/. Hell, it's the one that made Penny go 'Yeah..I'm gonna...go over there...'.

And oh my god, Penny!! I don't know why I was shocked though. Guess I forgot I was watching a Whedon creation, but this sure as hell reminded me. But really considering everything, I don't think it could have worked out any other way. Penny would never have accepted him as evil, but she couldn't be with CH, and as the protagonist DH had to achieve his goal of getting into the League so this just seemed the only way it could go considering all those factors. But damn, I cried. It's too early to be crying too. :sigh:. Joss strikes again. Sad it's over too....

Act III upset me, I'd grown to attached to the characters I think.

Overall though it was amazing most the songs were good and the story was hilarious.

Didn't know about this before I came here so thank you all for letting me know.

All 3 acts together though, I thought Dr. Horrible was great.

Meet you guys at the inevitable singalongs. 🙂

YES! I hope there are some!
Wow, Ok, so now things are interesting (not that they weren't before), we of course all saw the end coming as well Joss is kinda nuts and likes killing people. lol.

Now I want to see Dr.H in the evil league of evil doing all kinds of evil, starting of course with bad horse becoming bad glue, then when THE DOC is in charge of the evil league of evil, they should destroy Captain Hammer.

Maybe it's the super villain in me but I see it as Captain hammer killed Penny, he pulled the trigger, he was trying to kill THE DOC and Penny got broken death ray in the gut, I mean when you think about it THE DOC was just an accessory to murder.

As for the songs in ACT 3, I wasn't a fan really, they lacked the 'de de de' quality (which is as everyone knows a songs ability to get stuck in your head) of the first two acts.

I'm going to watch all 3 acts back to back later, I think this may improve my liking of act 3's songs, as I think the main thing that act 3 suffered from was that it felt disconnected to the first two acts.

Overall though I loved Dr.Horrible and I shall watch it many times over once it is released on DVD.

I agree that Captain Hammer killed Penny. I don't think the Dr. would have turned out to be so evil in the end if it wasn't for Penny's death by the HANDS of Hammer. There was definate hesitations in trying to take out Captain Hammer and the Doc hated him. And as far as we know the Doc has not personally taken anyones life yet. Anyway, I can't wait for the dvd (I heard the next thing to come out is the soundtrack on iTunes though)

Ohhh I soo want the DVD! Love your banner by the way!
Just watched it again, and I started sobbing; it was way stronger than my reaction the first time I watched it, which was just shock at the sudden dramatic turn. It left me feeling very empty, like Dr. Horrible must've...bravo, Joss.

I agree with what everyone else has said; I hated Captain Hammer's "Everyone's A Hero" song. I had to skip past it in my second viewing. But I loved the other songs; I liked the song at the beginning much more than I did the first time, and I loved both of Dr. Horrible's songs... there was definitely some Sondheim influence in the first one. And it was great how Joss played "Brand New Day" when he was in the ELE. It just further showed us that he got what he asked for.

One thing I just noticed was that Penny brought Billy frozen yogurt at the drycleaner, but was disappointed when he never showed up. Awww 🙁

Also, Bad Horse was BAAAAD. Don't wanna get in his way.

And did it just kill anyone else when Penny's song played in the credits? For some reason, that really hit me.

Nope, not the only one. I was staring broken hearted at the screen and the notes of Penny's song tore into me...sob.
Classic Whedon ending.

Definitely enjoyed the series. Not amazing, but good songs, acting and characters. Definitely enjoyable.

Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Moist will get his own spinn-off.

DAMN YOU, JOSS WHEDON!

Why do I continually subject myself to this? I mean, really? Does anyone else think Joss is a closet sociopathic homicidal maniac who's keeping his urges in check by MURDERING CHARACTERS WE LOVE?!

I don't think she had to die. I think Billy would have given up evil to be with her. They might have had to move to another STATE, depending on how serious Bad Horse's "there will be blood, it might be yours" thing was, but they could have been together and happy. . . .

The music in this installment kinda sucked, too.

*slams door*

^totally agree. sad and heartwrenchingly good, but i dont think that killing penny was the only option. of course, classic joss. darn him, making me cry! i do love the majority of the songs (also not a fan of that 'everyone's a hero' song), and the singing, acting, and story were amazing. big fan of this, here! 😀

one thing kind of confused me though. what exactly happened to captain hammer?

one thing kind of confused me though. what exactly happened to captain hammer?

The feedback from the malfunctioning freeze ray caused it to explode as he was trying to kill Dr. Horrible with it. You caught that, right?

The explosion caused Hammer to feel actual pain for the first time. He couldn't deal with the revelation he could be hurt. It sent him sucking his thumb on a psychiatrist's couch neutering him as a super hero for the present.

wait, i thought he was holding the death ray, and the freeze ray was in the back?

thanks for the explanation about the second part, though 🙂.

You're most likely right. I was wondering why Hammer was calling the freeze ray a death ray. I'll have to watch again. Doesn't change the conclusion of the explanation though.
I think a term has been coined as that we have all been "Jossed".

As much as I should have expected the ending, I totally did not see it coming. I just stared in complete shock. I watched it all together and it hit me much more the second time...and felt very depressed for the rest of the night. Oh well.

Damn you, Joss. You're brilliant, but you subject us to this time and time again, lol. Other than the ending, I thoroughly enjoyed it as a whole. Act II being my favorite, humor-wise and musically.

When is the DVD due out again? (Sorry if this has been asked/answered in another thread already.)

Yeah, I read that "Jossed" thing at Whedonesque, and thought, "Why didn't I think of that".

I've been Jossed way too many times...
Frak! I misread the topic of this thread. Or, when it said "Doctor Horrible's Singalong Blog II" I assumed it was about act II, and I read this:
Penny died.
Before I saw the episode 🙁 Why do I always managde to get spoiled even though I try so hard not to be? Damn it.

Anyways. Yes it was a typical Joss ending and we shouldn't be surprised. And I wasn't surprised 'cause I got spoiled but. If I hadn't, I so would not have seen it coming. Silly me.

I personally don't think the music sucked like everyone has been saying. I really liked it actually. The Captain Hammer song was a bit long (only because I like when NPH sings the best) but I loved all of NPH's songs! The tune to them was awesome and the lyrics were genius as usual. The last song especially had SOO much emotion and I just think it is beautiful. The voices in the back singing "every thing you ever" added sooo much to it. So I may be one of the only people who LOVED the songs in the last act but thats all good. (P.S. did anyone else notice Captain Hammer flipping the Doc off when he picks up the death ray and puts his foot on his chest cause I just noticed it after a few times watching it.)

Don't worry. Little me in my little corner loved the songs too. Captain Hammer's was purposefully frustrating I think, but in a vair amusing way

I loved the songs and have the soundtrack on repeat at the moment! So, you and Joyce aren't alone. :D And yes, Capt. Hammer flipping him off was hilarious.

i also love songs too. And I'm addicted to Hammer's song.

You didn't like everyone's a hero? Thst song was f-ing hilarious!

I think dr. Horrible was so cool! i really loved it. But i have to agree with alexa... I didn't like Everyone's a hero either. But the rest was great. They did a really good work and all the acts were hilarious. 😀 (and i really like Neil Patrick Harris 😀)
