Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #35
Writer: Brad Meltzer
Penciller: Georges Jeanty
Inker: Andy Owens
Colorist: Michelle Madsen
Cover Artist: Jo Chen
Genre: Action/Adventure, Horror

Brad Meltzer concludes his blockbuster run on Buffy Season Eight! After last issue's climactic encounter between Buffy and the unmasked Twilight, the Slayer army's entire mission has been altered and the true nature of the threat they face has been revealed.

Everyone is in place to confront the Big Bad once and for all as Buffy's most epic season races toward the final arc, written by Joss Whedon!

Let's make the most of this one kids, we've got a long wait till the next one (Riley one-shot aside)...

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...
Oh, this one is sure to be a doozy. I'll be standing there in the comic shop waiting for the new comics to hit the shelves (and my pull box), which I don't think I've done in a long time.

I fear for the future of the Buffyverse more than I ever have... but I've just gotta see what happens.

Come on, Joss... show me something...

I'll be there too, Andrew. We'll wait together in spirit :)
Great the famous issue with a huge cliffhanger. I guess i´m f*cked. The 3 months break is torturing me already.

Please don´t let it be a lame explanation and I hope they don´t f*ck up Buffy and Spikes characters too.

I still think it´s the First and if it is. I told you so. 🙂

Punch him Buffy PUNCH him! Kick his ass. Beat him senseless.

I'm so worried about Spike's place in all this too...I hope he kicks Angel's As*.

The wait is killing me already too :-(

That, I'm afraid, is going to be the #35 cliffhanger. SOMEONE, whether Angel/Twilight or the suspected "real" Big Bad is gonna be just on the verge of winning the war, when a fist catches it right in the jaw, sending it tumbling tail over teakettle, then the last frame of the last page reveals... Spike. "Hello, cutie." To be continued in three months. Just wait and see.

God, that's be horrible! If Spike shows up in the last panel...

Yeah, I wouldn't put it past them. hehe

did anybody else notice the picture on the buffy zone index at darkhorse?

http://www.darkhorse.com/Zones/Buffy

it isn't a variant cover for 35, and i don't see it anywhere else on their site. Buffy's sitting in highschool and willow and xander are dead at her feet.

thoughts?

I'm simultaneously excited and horrified for this issue...

I can´t read the issue until friday. This sucks and i know i´m not be able to fight the urge to read the spoilers. That sucks even more. :(
For all that has happened one would think that Buffy would be outraged - I am however not surprised with the character treatment shown in the preview pages - based on the ending panels from the last issue and Buffy's "where are we? and why'm I dressed?" after all that she has just experienced, both the cosmic tantric sex and all the recent deaths of her slayers, the character's first words, for this reader, seems strange and completely inappropriate. I will just have to wait until tomorrow - treat myself to a nice breakfast and read my paper and Buffy. I hope that I will not be as disappointed as I have been thus far with Mr. Meltzer's arc. I know that others will say - "just wait and see how the entire season is resolved" but just now, I feel like something is being lost in the Buffyverse that I loved. I know that I am being foolish to react this way since we still have several issues to go and Joss Whedon's resolution for the season, but already, I am feeling like at this point I don't even care one thing about Angel/Twangel anymore - and that makes me sad because I always admired the character. I did not always agree with how he handled things or the choices that me made, but I have never before been totally devoid of caring or reacting to him - and now that is just what I am feeling.

This is one of the times when living in Europe is actually more useful than living in America, series-wise. I could just get up, take the subway, and have my copy in 20 minutes, tops, from right now. If only I didn't have so much work to do... You'll end up getting it all before me. Sigh.

Now that was some useful post.

So she wasn't confused about the sex itself just (understandably so) how they got dressed and...away from Earth. That's what I thought in the first place...

Also, it was pretty much confirmed that Angel was doing bidding of Twilight and was/is under its control.

Though how Giles knows that is a mystery, since he's currently on another plane of existence and is only going by "myths and legends and hypotheses" to begin with.

Buffy certainly seems to be fully in control of herself.

Rather than a horde of orcs, I'm kind of hoping she'll be confronted with the spirits of the 200 dead Slayers whose killer she just happily boinked.

This is a moral issue that's not going to be resolved anytime soon for me.

Ok, Andrew let's just say that what Giles says is true, where do you stand then? And if that still isn't satisfctory to you is there an outcome that is?

I'm not exactly sure yet what Giles is saying. Right now, the only possible outcomes I see is that Buffy is in control of her actions (and is therefore a betrayer of her friends, her Slayers, her world, and her ideals), or that she is not in control, and "the Universe" has just used her and Angel to rape each other. (Epic love or no epic love... sex without free will is always rape.)

I can't conceive of an outcome to this story that would make me happy. Then again, I couldn't have conceived of a lot of things that have happened this season.

I will read the issue today and see how I feel about it then.

I hope there is some conclusion given that you can live with :)
"Don't you know me by now, Angel? I never do what I'm meant for." Epic line.

I just finished this issue, and my head is still spinning. I'm not sure that those who wanted an explanation as to why Buffy conviently forgot about the deaths that Twilight caused will be satisfied. They're starting to hint towards some explanation, but they didn't quite reach it yet. Then, the Spike cliffhanger. That final page is going to haunt me for the next three months. Damn you, Joss Whedon!

Hey, could you tell us what happened? I'm not going to get my hands on an issue for a few days and the suspense is killing me! lol

Buffy and Angel are in the Twilight Zone, and discover that reality there changes in accordance with their wishes. Their clothes and surroundings keep changing to those of various Slayers from history.

Back in the real world, the Scoobies are trying to hold off the demon invasion. Andrew is hurt and knocked out, to which Warren responds with genuine concern. (Though Amy and the General reveal between themselves that their intent is to kill the Scoobies once this is over.)

Angel keeps giving Buffy a feel-good description of what's happening to them, but Buffy isn't buying it. She uses her mind to open a window in reality and sees what's going on with her friends. Angel tries to wave it off, saying they'll be okay and Buffy should stay there with him and be happy.

Buffy tells him she needs to fight for her friends, not for happiness. Angel goes on again about how they're the chosen ones, and they can just leave the lower plane behind. Buffy responds: "Leave behind? My family is on that lower plane."

Angel asks: "Don't you understand what you're meant for?"

And she says, "Don't you know me by now, Angel? I NEVER do what I'm meant for."

ANGEL: "So you'll just walk away and ignore what the Universe has spent millions of years setting in motion?"

BUFFY: "Yup."

So Angel calls up his leather jacket and they jump through the hole in reality to join the fight.

Even with Buffy and Angel, they're having trouble fending off the demons. (Amy has also been badly injured.) Willow gets off a couple of really great cutting remarks at both Angel and Buffy.

Just then, a giant futuristic-looking tank/spaceship/something comes crashing through the wall.

Spike steps out of it and says, "Enough of this. You wanna put these demons down and end this Twilight crap once and for all? You talk to me."
