Bangel vs Spuffy Affected by when you watched the show?

Watched from the beginning and I always preferred Bangel over Spuffy...I prefer almost any main character over Spike.

I've also introduced a coworker to Buffy and Angel as well, so we're talking over twenty years later so he's watching it long after series. He too is not a fan of Spuffy though I don't know his stance on Bangel.

I thought Bangel was a lot nicer (well, until Angel lost his soul) I never liked Spike moping over Buffy or the two using one another - but once all that was passed I loved the strong connection Buffy and Spike had in season 7.

But i dont think i gave the two much comparison during the show's original airing.

Watched from the beginning and always been Bangel. I still am Bangel however I just finished watching Flooded episode and I admit I liked seeing Spike & Buffy that is not to say I'm team Spuffy. I liked how Buffy talks to Spike so easily, she didn't hold back her feelings. She confided in him.Again when she was ousted by all the potential players as well as her family, Giles, Willow, Xander, Any a and her sister Dawn. She sought comfort in Spike, she was able to sleep and maybe find a sense or bit of peace while he held and protected her. Spike always wanted to care and protect her with the exception of Seeing Red and their crazy sex hidden away from everyone. I don't know how Buffy would be if Angel had stayed with her Sunnydale and hadn't left. To me it seemed he wanted her to grow and find who she was, as if was holding her back or hindering her. I know Angel loved Buffy as much as she loved him in spite of having hurt her more than once. Buffy told Spike she loved him and he said no she didn't and thanked her for saying it. I think she loved him as a friend a very good friend. Her heart was Angel's it didn't seem she could love anyone the way she loved him. She tried though I believe.

I know fans of the pairing see it as some sort of deep connection.

When really, remembering this is Buffy at her lowest in s6. She talks so openly to Spike because he's an outsider. He's not a friend, someone she loves, or particularly cares for. She's taking advantage of the fact that he 'loves' her.

Sometimes you find it difficult to talk to the people closest to you - so Buffy essentially used him like a therapist whenever she was at her lowest.

When I originally watched the show I thought both Angel and Spike were scumbags who didn't deserve Buffy.

After the clarity of 25 years worth of time, I think both Angel and Spike were scumbags who didn't deserve Buffy.
