I don't know why but I never see any chemistry or sexual tension in Bange.I don't think DB's acting in BtVs close to match with SMG's acting.Neither JM's acting is close to match with her.

While I think Spuffy has a underlying sexual tension I never see chemistry. But Bangel has not either of them.I think SMG and DB Woodside who played Robin Wood had outstanding chemistry that no one ever came close.Than Charlie Weber who played Ben comes.Man Even PARKER has more chemistry with her than this two two. They may be not better actors than DB and JM but still

I ship neither and I am happy.

I don't ship either , Angel is creepy a 240 year old man 15 year old girl, its just not right, Spike was a abuser, and rapist, both are mass murderers. At least Angel had the decency to leave so Buffy could find someone that she could go into the light with, unlike Spike who wanted her to go into the dark with him, her life being spent at night or in permanent dark only being able to move around in the sewers during the day.
I do not understand people who ship either why would you want Buffy to end up living and sleeping with something that is not human
Sexual tension Mmmm not sure DB and SMG were said at one time to be dating, and are still very good friends to this day

I want Buffy to be with someone around in her age and a normal human being
I agree with you insofar as lack of chemistry is a big reason why I don't like Bangel - whereas Spuffy is electric with so much chemistry that I can choke on it, which is where we differ, lol.

Chemistry is such an important factor when it comes to relationships, so that's gonna go a long way in who someone will ship.

It had a lot to do with the actors chemistry. Sarah has said that she loved working with James so I think that had something to do with it.

I agree with @Puppet Spuffy chemistry is absolute fire. Bangel were sweet and romantic. Spuffy were angsty and smouldering. All the others mentioned Parker, Ben and Wood were very meh to me on the chemistry front

I actually think both ships have amazing chemistry.
Spuffy's sexual chemistry is off the charts hot.
Bangel's romantic chemistry makes me fall in love with them. It's sweet and endearing. I also think they have great sexual chemistry we just don't get to see a lot of it due to Angel's pesky curse.

Honorable mention to Fuffy's chemistry as well. Joss Whedon really missed the boat on them. They could have been epic.

Faith and Buffy do have great chemistry initially but then it just becomes hostile and there is no fun in that
James and Sarah obviously have chemistry but I largely prefer their chemistry when it’s not sexual. For example I prefer the chemistry they have in season 7, when they talk, the church scene, when they slept together before the battle against the first, also « In touched » when he said that nice speech to her. I like that kind of chemistry between them. Unfortunately I have to say that a lot of their sex scenes in S6 leaves me cold at best, uncomfortable at worst. I’m uncomfortable during « smashed » « dead things » and « gone ». The rest of the time it leaves me indifferent.

I think both had chemistry but it was very different.

Angel and Buffy were more romantic and like a fairytale. It reads like a courtship - but maybe it is DB's weaker acting at this point, but he feels like a puppy dog and Buffy is a princesss he adores. She has the chops to carry a show from the moment she bounces into the library, she sets the screen alight. SMG's energy in her first scenes with Giles, Xander, Willow and her mom is electric. In the first few episodes, the only actor to hold his own with her is ASH. But their chemistry is never sexual.

Spike and Buffy were raw, sexual and real - and i think this makes some people uncomfortable. I also see friendship and supportiveness - they took care of each other and built each other - and the chemistry of that friendship is evident on the back porch when Buffy is crying and Spike is there for her - and she just cracks open and unburdens. They are also funny - and that is why I really enjoy them together. They have playful silly down and this shines between them. They make ne laugh - and SMG and JM obviously have fun. From the time of the very first truce, we see they play really well together. It is deathly serious but they make us smile.

From their first interaction, Buffy and Spike bring the house to its feet. When they fight in School Hard "Do we need weapons for this?" Uhm no, but i may need to change my undies! It is EPIC! BOTH SMG & JM can act and they hit every zinger and it is so much fun, so much sizzzle! It is hot and funny and throws us off balance. I wish i could see both of them in more stuff. They are sooo good, especially together.

In 'Angel' our hearts quicken when Angel's face changes - but not before. He is very pretty, but kind of wooden. DB does not yet have the presence he gains later and that we see in Angel's interactions with Lockley and Doyle. Until we see Angelus, I don't think DB finds his acting feet.

BTW, I came to BTVS from Angel, the series. I was and remain a huge fan of Angel the character and a series fan -( season 1 to before Connor/Cordelia made me vomit) as well.

On-screen chemistry is often so tricky because it has so many different components and it needs both actors to be completely on the same page in terms of everything from the littlest expression to the timbre of how they say a word. A glace, a quirk of the lip or eyebrow will be replayed over and over by some but in the end its really all about the scene the fan/shipper/casual viewer thinks about when they think of the two characters together; does that chemistry move you?

With Buffy and Angel I think of scenes from Angel, Reptile Boy, What's My Line, Bad Eggs, Becoming Part 2, Amends Helpless, and I Will Remember You; these run go from sweet romance to repressed sexuality to...some sweet back and forths to well, heartbreak. Lots of heartbreak. I'm sure there are some romantic scenes from other episodes that don't impress me so I don't remember them. But these? These are more than enough to convince me that this couple are the coupleist couple that ever wanted a happily ever after. They show it, I believe it, so I can acknowledge it. Simple.

With Buffy and Spike I have much more of the antagonist vibe material to work with; which to some might seem more 'real' (or hell, even sexy!) but to me that is not 'shipper chemistry' per se. I wouldn't ship Buffy and Xander just because they have lots of heartfelt arguments; you need those softer moments, the moments you see the real couple and their dynamic.
Up until S6 Spuffy couple chemistry consisted of Something Blue, which is played as ridiculous broad comedy. Buffy has never been sappier or more immature in love than she was in this particular episode. And its just... funny, its not like a 'wow, these two are a believable couple' thing; the idea is ridiculous.
S6 is its own thing and I believe that their is sexual attraction and whole bunch of messed up emotions from Once More With Feeling onward. But certainly nothing strong enough to survive the AR in my estimation.

But in S7 all I think of is their awkward scene in End Of Days, the one where he walks in and finds her back at her house, then they have this weird, claustrophobic talk that's full of bad camera angles, whispered bad jokes and pregnant pauses; this is their most significant back-and-forth conversation about their actual feelings and it completely fizzles. It just feels like Buffy wants to show some gratitude to Spike but also desperately wants out of the conversation and get some head space (in contrast she is immediately relaxed and chill with Angel until the idea of Angel staying crops up).
Most of the other Spuffy stuff after (apart from the ILY/NYD) is just non-verbal 'significant staring', the most subjective of shipper stuff; hell its what us non-shippers base half our 'evidence' on lol.

I'm not trying to convince anyone one way or the other because when it comes to shipping chemistry its just as much about what you want to see as to what is actually there. And some ships are just written ambiguously.

It's because those are some SEXY vamps. Angel (or Spike) could bite me anytime!

Amen!
Do Buffy and Angel have no chemistry or sexual tension? These two cannot be together alone for 3 seconds in the same room which immediately triggers the passion. Remember the scene when Angel does Tai-Chi? Well look at Buffy's face, if that's not sexual tension, then I don't know what it is. The scene where they do Tai-Chi together? They can't resist the temptation of passion. The scene in GD, as Angel bites her, Buffy has an orgasm. Buffy and Angel have a lot of chemistry and sexual tension. Try to watch "I Will Remember You" and you will understand what I mean. Additionally, SMG has said more than once that there was a special connection between her and DB.

Both have really intense chemistry in my opinion.

Bangel has 3 seasons of really great scenes where you genuinely get a sense that they love each other. I’ll grant that early Angel is just a broodasaurus, but as the series goes on, that changes. Their chemistry is front and center in I Will Remember You from AtS.

Spuff has 4 seasons of amazing character development and scenes that convey a deep sense of affection. Spike starts a villain, and he does some horrible things, but by the end of the show, he changed into someone completely different. I love Spuffy for these reasons, as well as the fact that they have incredible chemistry. More than DB & SMG, inmho. Case in point, Spike’s “I love how you try” speech and the “Were you there with me” dialogue.

Both are crackling with electricity, and I definitely don’t fault anyone for siding with either side, or siding with none of the above! There’s so many great choices in BtVS that you have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to ships 🙂
