Discussion of 8.18 "Time of Your Life Part 3" - Released 03/09/08 (Dark Horse)

Well i've been thinking about what could make Willow (if thats who it is)
want to cause any sort of harm to Buffy, the only thing I can come up with is vengeance.

I've been thinking this since the end of season 7, Buffy used magic to alter the world and cause a massive imbalance giving 'good' the edge over evil and was we know magic is always about balance.

So here we are in S8 and future 'Willow' is trying to stop Buffy, I think that the cosmos will restore the balance, this might mean that the new slayers may have their powers taken away, maybe killing many of them including Kennedy making Willow all grrr.

That would mean that Buffy will have been indirectly responsible for the death of two of Willows lovers.
 
I just had a weird thought: If the Slayer line was inactive for so long and then suddenly called Fray, can we be sure it was the Slayer line that activated her? Maybe Willow gained the ability to activate Slayers when she did the Scythe spell, and activating Fray gave her just the person she called use to take down Buffy
 
Some of you are giving Willow a lot of credit, saying she had to keep herself alive to right some wrong done in the past... it's all so, I don't know, tricky.

I kind of think of it as cops going under cover in a gang or something and becoming friends with the people they're trying to take down, at what point might they switch sides... I know that's a weird comparison, but like willow is craaaaaaazy and hanging with vamps, and people are afraid of her. Even if it was some mystical plan, can someone really just pretend to be that way, or be that way to ensure survival, and really keep their original intentions, because theoretically Willow is hundreds of years old, I forget how many she's supposed to be, but she's definitely at the point where she has been evil for MUCH longer than she was a normal human, or at least a normal good human. I don't know how Joss is going to tie this together but I am excited.

Ooh, that idea creeps me out! 😀 Would that make Willow more Slayer than the Slayers in a way? There would be a ca-razy can of worms opened up if a human (or semi-human 200 year old witch) had control over the Slayer line, rather than the mysterious supernatural powers that used to be in charge of the whole thing. Even though it's Willow, I just don't think any human would be up to the task.
 
I started wondering earlier, with future Willow being Dark Willow, was present Willow turning dark while fighting Amy back in The Long Way Home more important than we originally thought? Maybe even just as abit of foreshadowing?

Would it really though because we've seen Willow go dark plenty of times when she was using more powerful magicks even in Season Seven, the only difference is this time it didn't really seem to affect her, so I'm guessing because of training from Saga Vasuki she learned how to control her evil
 
I never read Fray so I was very dubious when I got my comics.

The art is TERRIBLE. Do we have different artists this time?

I'm confused about Willow. Why is she there? How did she get there? Where's her magic? How did she live for this long?

Fray isn't canon...is it?

I think Fray is canon and that the person who did the art for the original Fray is the person who did the art for this arc

Yeah if Fray wasn't canon Joss wouldn't have included her in the canon Season 8, now whether or not Fray will still happen in the way we now know it now that Buffy has went to the future we don't know
 
Fray seems to be canon since S7. The Scythe appeared on Fray before it did on BtVS S7.
 
"BtVS", "Angel", Season Eight, After the Fall, Fray, and Tales of the Slayers/Vampire are canon.

Anyways, I really like this arc, but I just hate the waiting.
I also hate how they change artists on us. I finally got used to Jeanty's work, but after every major arc, they sneak in other artists. Sometimes I don't notice because their artwork is great. But when they get someone who's style is "different", it's kinda distracting. Not bashing anyone's work though. They're all great. And I can understand that an artist would go mad if he or she had to draw a whole 20-page comic every month. But it's still distracting.

It's like if this were still a show and they replace actors every couple of episodes.
 
Karl Moline was brought in to art this arc because he did the original Fray series. Jeany does the alternative covers. I can't wait for Jeanty to get back full time. I'm not going to start again on how much I hate Moline's art, lol.
 
I completely get that Moline is Fray's artist and that's why he substituted for Jeanty this time. In a way, the Time of You Life arc is a sequel to the Fray series.

Yeah, I liked Moline's artwork on Fray, but aside from Riley, none of the characters really look like the Buffy actors. Photorealism isn't essential for this comic book series, but it is nice. That's my only major complaint, though. I like Karl's creature designs, vehicle designs and backdrops. BTW, anyone else think that Melaka's sister looks like she could be an older version of Buffy? Family relation, perhaps?
 
Weird issue.

Who the hell are the guys in the forest, why can they talk and why do they have superpowers? Centaur Dawn is dumb. Still no idea what the hell the snake lady is.

While the idea of a Buffy/Fray crossover is kind of cool, the Fray stuff is hard to follow.
