So I need a VPN I thinks..... I have no idea where how what and costs..... help me please as I'm not a tech head!

There are plenty of free ones, though they are somewhat limited, usually in speed or total bandwith. Opera and Firefox have them built in, though I think you have to register for Firefox. Norton also has one built in. Proton VPN is one you install and has a free option.

I'm on a Mac if that changes anything.... free sounds good but having said that I don't mind a small amount if it is better and worth it

Pretty sure that the browsers will be available on Mac. Paid does depend on what you're using it for. The free/included ones can be okay, but if you're doing high quality video streaming you probably want something paid - Proton is £2.79 per month for the level above free, which isn't a lot.

I use the search engine as my default - Google is basically an advertising platform now whose main objective is to keep you on them until you click an ad - and have the browser on my phone.
