Miriam was a girl who kept to herself though she had become ' a chosen one ' in the month of February of 1582. Her mother and father wanted her to continue the family tradition of hunting demons so to have their daughter be chosen by the Powers That Be was wonderful. In the month of August in the year 1594. Miriam and her mother were called to go to the wedding of her mothers friend from school. At the wedding Miriam noticed her mother talking with another woman who also had a daughter, Miriam thought the woman's daughter looked the same age as her and was happy. Hopeful that she and the girl would soon become best friends. Though they didn't know each other at the time that sight of each other was the start of their friendship. Both girls having been born in the year 1565 although unknown to each of them at the time was helpful.
At the next wedding that they were invited to Miriam got to wear her best clothes though neither she nor her mother knew much about the groom at that wedding, all that Miriam's mother knew of him that he was an accomplished playwrite. They went knowing they would be there for them to bear witness to the wedding. In the hours before the ceremony Miriam told her mother that she would need to find somewhere to have a rest, and true to her word Miriam found a slightly comfortable spot in the stone wall at the churches entrance. Whilst she was there Miriam spied that girl, so Miriam waved to the girl who returned the wave and they met. The girls were able to spend some time together and quickly they became friends though it was only the start of their true friendship. After going home in her mothers wagon Miriam was able to improve her competancy in the art of fine needlework. When they got home Miriam went to sit in the hay fields and made a picture of the countrytside on a white sheet. Just as other friends of hers would do with paints. In the few years that followed Miriam became well known for her delicate work with the needle, she would often sit in a field waiting until she found the right scene to look at. It was during one of those times she that she got a blockage, not finding subjects to sew.
She had decided to walk to another vantage point that was further along the lane, it was there that she thought she saw her friend taking some things from a hedge, going to see the girl Miriam found it was who she hoped it was, she was picking blackcurrants from the hedge. Both girls smiled at meeting the other. Miriam and Hazel were abel to complete their friendship with a joyous hug.
“It has been a while since we last met,” stated Hazel.
“Yes that was at the wedding that wedding near the village of Dunchurch, it seems like a long time ago but it was only in the year 1582,” the girls laughed.
Hazel was glad to meet her friend again and smiled to Miriam realizing that they were fast becoming best friends.
“I hope that we can bare our inner most secrets to each other,” said Hazel.
Miriam smiled to Hazel and was about to reply when Hazel interrupted her.
“What I've done requires me to disclose such tales that might mean I'd face deadly consequences, although I feel you are just the right sort of person I can tell,” said Hazel.
“Rest easy, my parents named me to be who I am they hoped I would be inconspicuous name to be able to continue the family tradition of hunting and killing demons,”
Miriam bared a guilty grin before she continued.
“Know this Hazel for I have found, fought and killed many many demons, my mother has told me that the upper figures will always watch over me, consequently I keep hoping that no person from the church will ever discover what I am,” stated Miriam.
Hazel was so glad to hear Miriam say that,
“Now I believe we can be the type of friends we both seem to need because I think I am becoming what many refer to as a witch,” said Hazel.
She looked around to see if anyone could hear her.
“I do feel as though I can trust you with that,” said Hazel.
Miriam smiled.
“My mother has told me to be very careful should I ever tell anyone that I have been chosen to be a slayer, because I bear the mark of a slayer, it is a mole atop my left breast. A mole that many would see as the mark of the Devil,” said Miriam.
“We are special that way, I am a witch without any such mark yet you have the mark of a witch but you are not a witch, we can keep each others secret a secret,”
Hazel and Miriam smiled to each other. Hazel knew her latest best friend would soon be the best friend she had ever had, Miriam was haqppy to think the same.
“I am glad that you felt you could tell be that, what type of demons do you slay and how many?” asked Hazel.
“All types of demons, I feel tension in my stomach whenever one of them is near, that is when I need to look for a weapon, a weapon to protect myself, to kill it or them.”
Hazel faced Miriam.
“When you say about them how many might you mean how many have you had to face at the same time?” asked Hazel.
Miriam heard the worry in her new best friends voice and was glad to be right that she could trust her.
“The most I have had to fight at one time has been four,” said Miriam.
“Is it that you are so strong or do you possess another ability?” asked Hazel.
Miriam looked down at the ground.
“This is starting to get complicated but I feel as though it is worthy,” she said.
Miriam grinned as she looked into the eyes on Hazel's face.
“I have noted that my injuries heal quite quickly, that although I feel little pain when an animalistic being hits me it is soon gone. Once or twice after I was sure that I had been killed though I realised I was not even injured,” said Miriam.
She smiled when she relived those times.
“I can heal peoples injuries,” said Hazel then continuing, “just by thinking, by putting my hand over the affected area I can take their pain and heal the torn skin, it is replaced with fresh skin.” Hazel thought about what she had recently done. “There are times when I find not all objects are easy to heal though, moving objects I often find hard to do, when talking to a persons mind or even convincing a person what to do I can do, that I have done. Those are things I should avoid letting others see or I might be accused of being a witch,” said Hazel.
They looked to each other.
“If we can live near each other we will always be there to help the other, I will always be there to help you face any demons,” said Hazel.
“And I will be there to help you be free from all accusations,” said Miriam.
