Question - Angel's return to Sunnydale

When Angel returns to Sunnydale to comfort Buffy after Joyce's death, how did he know that Joyce had died? Do we think it was Willow that told him?

It was pretty much an ongoing theme throughout both Buffy's show and his own that Angel tends to keep tabs on Buffy and the goings on around her. He doesn't keep a constant watch, because some things do slip by him (her affair with Spike in Season 6, for example) but she pretty much remains the object of his concern.

As for Joyce's death specifically, one of the Scoobies might have called him, or it might have been something as simple as him having a subscription to the local paper. My guess would be both in this particular case.

I have just always assumed that either Giles or Willow called and told them. I would think it would most likely be Willow, because she kept in touch with Cordy from time to time, and Cordy knew Joyce. Cordy probably then told Angel and Wesley.

I always imagine that Buffy herself called him to tell him

My headcanon is that Wesley and Giles kept in touch. Like Sunday afternoons, they would call each other to check in. But ultimately, it was 2002. E-mail was a thing.

Or you know, Cordy just started screaming again, that's how they do things in LA.
