I'm Marcie, new to Buffy fandom, though not entirely to Buffy. A friend of mine has been on the forums for a little bit, and I decided I should join : )
My mother has been interested in Buffy and been a relatively passionate Spuffy shipper for...at least my entire life? I have had to hear Bangel/Spuffy shipping wars filtered through my mother my entire life. I am personally a Spuffy shipper foremost and a Buffaith—I dislike the name Fuffy, it sounds odd to me— and Xanya shipper secondarily. I have no interest in relitigating old shipping wars, though.
I'm interested in getting into writing fanfiction and in beta-reading other people's work.
I'd like to meet more people online, so if you'd like to reach out, please do!

We don't have too many shipping wars here, so feel free to give your opinions about them, or not as you choose! I can tell who your favorite characters are, but any favorite seasons? I look forward to seeing your comments! 🙂

My favourite seasons would be 5 and 6. I really like season six…before the last few episodes. I simultaneously consider it my second favourite season and my second least favourite season.
My favourite characters are probably Spike, Tara, Anya, and Faith, in about that order? Glory’s absolutely my favourite Big Bad, though, and I have an especial love for Rona, even if I don’t like season seven that much.

Your conflicted feelings about season six are very common!
Welcome to the forum! The shipper wars were at their peak more than ten years ago so you can state your preferences now without getting blasted by the other side. This place is now as civil as a fan forum gets and it is also more intelligent than most.

There is a section called "Introduction to the Watcher Diaries" where you can find a lot of fan fiction, much of it written by @ILLYRIAN but some other authors occasionally show up. There have been a few contests where the aim was to create the best drabble, a story of exactly 100 words.

Shipping wars are totally lame, in my opinion. Fandom is supposed to be fun, and you should ship what you like, and revel in it!

Exactly! I definitely do tend find my home in the more analytical, critical parts of fandom in my other experiences, but that's because I find it fun to analyse things! I most certainly am a student in the arts and humanities : ).
I do definitely find things compelling about Bangel; it's just necessarily not my favourite. I can certainly understand why it has such a fan presence : ).
 
Why is it?
I seem to be the only one who sees those humourous admissions by members of these boards, for example appleAlcy just admitted being able to find appleAlcy's home!
I'd be somewhat stunned if appleAlcy could not find her home.

I understand the Glory love though (let alone Spike, Tara, Anya & Faith); as a big bad, she is amazing and has so much untapped potential for fan fic. I drafted one called Demigoddess, about her ruling in her home hell dimension... and taking form in our reality/dimension again. rather see Glory vs. Illyria or Glory vs. Dark Willow?

Rona and, to a lesser extent, Kennedy are just the potentials who stick out to me in season seven. Rona feels like she could easily be the protagonist of her own show; there's such a distinct vibe to her! She feels the most wholly formed of all of the Potentials, and it just made her stick out to me. She feels a lot like a younger Buffy, but she is allowed to be her own person. I've had an especial affection for her since her introduction (since I watched her introduction, I should say. I'd not yet been born when season seven first aired!)

Glory versus Illyria would certainly be a spectacle! Glory versus Dark Willow is much more appealing to me, though. They simply have more of a history, and the little taste of Dark Willow seen in season five certainly sweetens the deal.

Yess Dark Willow vs. Glory (round 2) after 'Tough Love' would be amazing to see.
I'll give it to you that Rona is very distinct which among the many nameless potential slayers in season 7 is nice to have some with actual character. I always defend Kennedy too- she has a few iffy moments where I would like to verbally slap her but overall, she wins me over because she's so unabashedly into Willow, helps her work through her grief over Taras death and she is a brave, bad ass fighter unlike a lot of the weaker potentials who did not exactly seem like slayer-material (Annabelle, Molly, Chloe, Amanda, Violet etc.... ). Still, Rona's cynical personality is not becoming.
