A new poster making the rounds of social media has gotten the hopes up of Firefly fans worldwide, as it teases the series' long-awaited return with a sequel known as Serenity: Echoes of Tranquility. The poster features series mainstays Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, and Summer Glau, with the franchise's iconic ship, the Serenity, drifting in the background, and the title coming to Disney..."

Oooh that would be cool, But I very, very much doubt it would happen. I'd watch if it did! Doesn't have to be Firefly though, I'd just watch anything sci fi lol.

Isn't this a confirmed fake poster? And there is NO CHANCE that Disney would come anywhere near Adam Baldwin. I can't imagine, based upon the themes of Firefly/Serenity, that Disney would find the themes appealing. So I can't imagine them doing anything with a Firefly.

I would be for it, though I don't subscribe to Disney+. There was so much more to explore with Firefly! But I can't believe it would involve Nathan Fillion when he's currently on another series. That's what makes the poster seem fake. A reboot with new actors would be doable, I think, and as @Skanky Vamp points out, the hypocrisy/irony of the Giant Mouse doing such an anti-establishment show would be delicious!

Since Mark Sheppard had his massive heart attacks, I was just thinking that maybe its time for a Badger spin off. Give him a nice easy sitting down behind a desk king of the space pirate underworld job. The minions can do his grunt work and he can be the snark and brains. Fun way to stay within universe without having to bring other actors back.

Not really. The magic of the first series/movie is long gone by now and I don't think they could re-create it. It could never live up to the past, some would roll with it, but a lot of fans would probably find it subpar in comparison.

I had an interest in a continuation a long time ago, now, meh. Can't say I'm interested in a development of the verse.
But then, I'm gun-shy after the Gilmore Girls "A year in the life", which was like a horrible parody of a beloved series, demonstrating that the series creator had lost touch with both the story, the tone of the show, and the fanbase, long long ago. Not even original writers and cast can save crap, as it turns out. So, can't say I have hopes for anything like this anymore.

When your CEO is blasting the greed.of the SAG-AFTRA strikers while staying at one of the most expensive resorts in the world and on his way to making $31 million just this year, I don't see a Firefly resurrection in Disney's near future.

If Disney ruins runs it, I'll make it head canon that Mal is secretly an operative for the Alliance (his symbol, instead of a blue octopus is mouse ears).

Come to think of it, Mal would make a TERRIFYING operative...and I bet they could brainwash him into becoming one (though it would take a lot more work than usual, which is why they'd consider it worth it). In any case, it would still be a better story than whatever Disney came up with.

Okay, why would Disney hide all aspects of the production of this show? How does that benefit them?

What value does Firefly still have? Like, it sold a lot of DVDs back in the day, but that's over. The show has been consigned to streaming. None of the actors have blown up. It's really Dad's Army in Space, again.Joss's time is up, he burnt his fan base and must have been really bad to work with. So, aside from a dwindling number of forty year olds, what's the point?

The same could be said of Willow too. Though that didn't work out too well for them and, arguably, it probably even had a larger (niche) fan base.

Good writing has worked in the past, but that seems to be a dying art. That, and inexplicable production decisions that make me wonder if they're on cocaine or just had their parents purchase them a degree without them learning anything (and too spoiled and egotistical to learn from the experienced).

If it were competent, reboots would work for more than just those who go weak in the knees for anything with the franchise name slapped on it.

Re: Willow; Well, Willow came from Lucasfilm, and apparently Kathleen Kennedy has a blank check and a signed piece of paper saying she can do whatever she wants to. Different rules seem to apply to both Lucasfilm and Marvel. The most charitable answer I can think of is, Disney understands the genre has grown stale, and needs to tolerate losses that come with experimentation in hopes of revitalizing the genre. That doesn't seem to be the case for the 20th Century Fox Original IP. Doesn't rule anything out, I'm sure after the Ditko lawsuits, Disney is taking it's time to analyze and ruminate over it's new IP. But it doesn't seem that Lucasfilm Rules apply.

I think the remade Battlestar Galactica showed that if you're going to do a massive tonal shift in a franchise, it needs to be in a reboot (or a spinoff like DS9).

The general consensus seems that there isn't much interest in a reboot or remake, and I have to say I agree.

Firefly was such a special and unique series and I always joke that I'll never be "over" it getting cancelled. Despite this, I don't want it rebooted or remade. I want it left where it ended, and am happy rewatching the episodes when I feel like doing so.

Disney touching anything is a sickening prospect these days so I'm mildly relieved that Firefly remains untouched.

It's a fringe show that had it's time, got a bigger budget movie and a bunch of comic spin-offs to resolve stuff and I don't see any big draw from the 'verse other than the characters and the actor's who played them, who've all long moved on with their careers.
