Chasing Cordy
Guest
This is my first attempt at trying any kind of writing. I am basing all of this on what I have seen and heard from the series up until the opening of season four...This takes place between any two episodes of the first three seasons and is just for some fun
Scene: A room during the night
The shadow of a figure is seen quickly opening up various doors and drawers. Obviously this being is searching for something, but the identity of the being and the item in question will not be known for some time. We see this search go on for close to a minute before the being finally slams the last door closed with a frustrated grunt.
Scene: Sunnydale High School library...the following day
The off-duty Scooby gang is busy sorting through the collection of books brought to Giles from an old friend from England.
"Is there anything here of any concern to me?" shouts out Xander as he sifts through his box of books.
Buffy smiles from across the table, "Not unless there's a demon called Miss December...am I right?"
Xander's pale face and lack of remark makes Buffy feel like she's right and she leans back in her chair, "Chalk one up for me"
Willow begins to chime in, "Not unless Miss December is...Cordelia!"
Almost on cue, Cordy struts through the doors of the book palace, "Uh, where could I find somebody that really knows books? I have a paper due on some General"
Willow stands at attention, "Which Genral?"
Cordy shrugs her shoulders, "How should I know? But I know his name got me hungry"
From the corner of the table, Xander raises his hand, "General Electric? General Motors...?"
The rest of the crew look at him...
"What?", he says, "electric stoves...drive-through restaurants...it works out somehow"
Giles makes his way through the doors a few seconds later with a bowl of something from the lunch room, "Mmmm", he says, "I must say this is very tasty custard"
Cordy's eyes lit up, "That's it!" she yells, "General Custard"
Giles stops in front of her, "Just because I think it's good, there's no need to give me a name like that"
Willow steps in before it gets out of hand, "I think you mean Genral Custer. Wait here and I'll grab a book for you"
Scene: A fancy office during the daytime
Two beings discuss the failed attempt of the previous night's work.
Being 1: "Soooo...you didn't find it"
Being 2: "No"
Being 1: "you understand we must find it within two days"
Being 2: "Yes"
Being 1: "You're not much for long sentences are you?"
Being 2 begins to speak but refrains from saying anything...
Being 1: "We're fine if we have it or if anyone else gets it...but we do not want the Slayer or any of her friends to get it. Is that clear"
Being 2 nods his head in agreement
[Opening credits]
Scene: A local graveyard later that night
Buffy and Willow walk through on their--okay, Buffy's--nightly patrol. The two see a mysterious shadow figure run in front of them and Buffy takes off after it with her slayer speed.
Willow is left standing behind, "She could so do well in track..." and then begins to run after Buffy with her non-Slayer Rosenberg speed having to make due.
As Willow rounds a corner she literally runs into Buffy walking back to where they were before the track meet began...
"Sorry Will", Buffy says, "It was just Angel"
Willow pauses for a moment to catch her breath, "Oh. That's nice. I won't need this stick"
The two girls slowly walk around the cemetary for what seems like forever until Willow stops in her tracks
"I'm dying to know. What cryptic thing did Angel say this time?"
Buffy acts as if nothing happened, "Let's see. He gave me this ring and said I'll need it to make the right choice in a few days"
Willow was shocked, "A ring?!"
Buffy pulls it out of her jacket pocket and shows it to Willow, "It's not a wedding ring, Will. It's an old dirty ring from some dead guy's grave. Romantic huh?"
Willow's nose curled up a bit, "Well for him it is..."
Buffy discounted that remark and just went through her patrol with no more encounters from anybody else--living, dead, or undead.
Scene: The next day at the school library
Giles alone goes through all the books at his disposal and can find nothing that matches any account of the mytsery ring from last night.
"Why does everything have to be so bloody difficult" he says to himself under his breath, "There can never be a big picture of a ring, can there?"
He gives up and heads into his office for a break
