The difference between English and American words

You know, I'd have thought that with all the American Presidents who have proclaimed they want America to be great, they would have promoted having an American Language.

Evidently you haven't encountered the Americans online who don't understand that English wasn't created by Americans. You even see comments like "Why don't the English speak a European language instead of English, which is an American one?" Yes, though the wording was not precisely the same, there are comments like that.

Hmm, the Vampires choice of Bangers (thanks Anyanka Bunny Slayer #9)
The Blood Sausage!
Yep, how to make a vampire smile.

Either way, you'd probably be speaking German if America hadn't come to England's aid during World War 2. Just a thought.

Ha Ha Ha. Did the German air force bomb Glasgow or was it to far to go for them?

And if not for us, you would have been speaking French well before that. 😀

Care to explain? As, if Britain had fallen to the French or Germans, then America would have ceased to exist.
Dear NotASlayer, just because you can write Frog it does not follow that you can speak frog, I can speak the Froggy French but I'm no good at writing it, . . . . . I cannot speak French (tee hee).

Am I right in assuming that Glasgow is in Great Britain, that being so your parents Anyanka would have been killed by the Germans army. My dad was in the British Army so he would have been killed so I wouldn't exist either.
How would America be affected it Germany of France had gained control?

@ILLYRIAN
The 'if it wasn't for us you would be speaking French' is a reference to the French-Indian War of 1754, which was started when George Washington and his patrol shot French troops over a cow.
Then the French and the British battled for the colonies, at first France had the best of it until the Battle Of Quebec turning point which swung the whole conflict in the British favour. Hence why the official language of the US was English and not French (or Spanish, or German).

It's also worth noting that France was far more vicious at trying to hold onto its rebelling colonies than Britain- Algeria and Vietnam being prime examples- and there is no French Commonwealth of former territories, in fact a lot of former French colonies tend to be complete basket cases.

Thanks for explaining that, I had completely got it wrong.
