ILLYRIAN
Druish Pervonian Wizard
of the first month at Sunnydale High
The introverted group of young girls from the school began to silently move along the path away from the Willow’s house that they had just met in to seek what was beyond the trees, each of them would look at what lay around them, trying to see something, anything, that was of interest. Eventually they came upon a cliff face which was seemingly the edge.
Willow pointed along a path, “There is something over this way,” she said then pointed to an opening in the side of the wall of rock.
The group wandered towards the opening in the wall of rock, the cave. The group followed along the path into the cave. Inside the cave the group saw a small light, like the flame of a candle. Willow led the way for them all to follow from the entrance of the cave. In the middle of the cave, just passed a rock the cave widened and there was the candle, the light from it reflected from the shiny cave walls.
The girls each sat on a rock looking at the flame that was the reflection from the candle.
Harmony asked how long could the candle have been giving off its light? They all looked to her then each other.
“If the wind had not made the flame increase in size, if we knew how tall the candle was, I might hazard a guess though then I might ask who lit the flame judging by the amount of candle wax down the outside of the candle,” said Willow.
“I hazard a guess at not long, maybe it had been lit in the first of the early hours of the morning,” said Harmony.
Amy faced the others,
“Before you ask I cannot see it continuing to burn much longer than when the dark begins this evening.”
Without anyone to tell them to leave, they all stood up and went to the light to follow where they had been walking towards, behind the mound where the cave was is a river the bank of the river was clear of rocks stones or gravel, the girls were just as surprised by this. Turning, the group walked back to the cave. Though once in the cave they faced a surprise; the wax of the candle had not melted though the flame still burnt. Wandering about the cave each of the group found where the food and water had been partaken.
Willow lit one of the fires, I want you to come outside with me, I want to find where the smoke originally rose from the cave.
Outside they had wandered outside where they considered the cave was, Elspeth pointed towards a wisp of smoke rising from the ground.
“Good thing we are here now because if the darkness had formed any more I would not have seen the rise of the smoke.”
Going back into the cave the group was quite amazed to see the candle had not burnt any lower. What could be the reason for the candle to keep burning even though it never becomes any shorter. Silently they crept away from there to the entrance to the cave, Willow led them through the trees on the path until they saw her home where they had all met, earlier that evening.
