To know The Shanshu
At nine years old her father had died when the boat he was in sank so Daralinga was left to be raised by her mother Jasmine. The first change her mother made to Daralinga’s life was that she would be sent to school for two days a week, once there she quickly became known as the prettiest girl in the school and the village by far though she didn’t act as though she expected others to bow down to her.
Her mother’s other way of helping Daralinga was by insisting that her daughter to wear clothes that would not attract a man’s attention. Though as she grew older the more beautiful she became though when Daralinga was thirteen her mother died. Soon after the boys of the village sought Daralinga to be near them and men sought her company though not in a way that she wanted.
One day when she was fifteen she escaped their attentions by running away to one of the larger towns though her escape only gave her greater problems as to make her way in the town she found she was too young to work in shops. Reluctantly she found she was needed to accompany the handsome young men, many of them wanted the prettiest of girls to be with them.
Over time as she blossomed the men grew more expectant of her and illness after illness followed, to hide her disappointment she decided to run away and change her name from
Daralinga to Darla, it was similar enough to her real name so she could respond to it and not make people curious about her. Her life wasn’t headed the way she wanted nor the way that her mother would have wanted.
Though it was then that Darla realised she couldn’t remember her mother’s name. From the age of fifteen to thirty her life presented her with many times that she enjoyed though it often gave her many more moments of pain and great hardship then in her latter days her reward was filled with dread. Her looks of great beauty that had enabled her to enjoy life had gone all that was left was the sadness and despair.
Then they were replaced with many moments of anger at her lot near the end. Her despair was removed as right as the hooded man by the name of The Master welcomed her to share his life after death as a vampire, she found her beauty brought her great glory as that time with Angelus continued for over a century. It was when the curse put on Angelus by some Gypsies caused so much unseen harm to Darla that she was eventually removed from existence.
Due to the terrible life she had led before she began to a vampire she was left as a person in purgatory, it wasn’t until those of the powers that be saw goodness in her eyes that they began to consider her as a worth-while member of society. They hatched a plan that would ensure the evil to be curtailed. As a test by the Powers That Be she was to be sent back to Sunnydale where she was introduced to the recently souled vampire Spike he had wanted another to love him or at least be a friend to him.
As he began to claw his way back to sanity Spike had various interactions with Darla though she wasn’t seen. One day Buffy opened the door to the basement of the New Sunnydale High School. Allowing Buffy to speak with Spike he nearly let the secret out of the bag, he told Buffy there were three of them in the basement, just as well he didn’t say it was him, Buffy and Darla.
Her claim to fame and her reason why the PTB allowed her to redeem herself was to cause the end of Holland Manners’ time on earth as a person. His demise was why the Power That Be had created the Shanshu Prophecy. Many years of planning had gone into the preparation of the event known as the Shanshu Profecy itself and yet even after all was done Angel decided to ignore what he was told to do. Though no one knew of Darla she was able to give Spike a reason to be what Buffy could view as a help to her plans.
The powers of the Wolfram and Hart thought Darla would be of use to them in seizing control of Angel though Drusilla was ultimately used. Their plans were quickly changed for Darla to enable Angel to be able to seize control. It was in preparation of the final conflict no one knew it was Darla who had secretly carried the Amulet away from the Powers That Be and surreptitiously gave it to Angel, so clever was she that he thought it was from Wolfram and Hart.
As soon as she could, after the Powers That Be had given it to her, Darla placed it into an envelope in one Angels’ safes. It was known by names by many people before he would give it to Buffy though Angel described it as to dangerous for her, one as he would be needed to wield it. When they were alone in the basement Buffy referred to Spike as a champion and handed him the Amulet.
Spike would be the one to end the rule of terror that the First wanted to instil all over the world though it wasn’t until Spike languished about in L.A. that he heard of the prophecy of the Shanshu. It was according to an ex watcher had Angel was going to be its beneficiary. Spike didn’t care for the Shanshu and he was right not to as it had been thought up by the Powers That Be.
And it wasn’t that Angel was its recipient, its benefactor it had been Darla, no time frame was stated though it had been years before. The deity that had led the Powers That Be had taken pity on Darla’s and saw a way to restore her goodwill to man. Darla had only one thing she had always wanted to do in her life, to give birth to good child. Unable to grant that wish the Powers That Be gave Darla a wonderful pair of wings that she may use to be able to fly over the good of the earth.
May her beauty and her love of beauty for others continue forever.
