1. Why is Season 9 much shorter then Season 8?

2. Why does it take so long, until the library Editions vols come out, compared to the Paperbacks vols?

Why is Season 9 much shorter then Season 8?

It's not that season 9 is short, it's that season 8 is abnormally long.

Why does it take so long, until the library Editions vols come out, compared to the Paperbacks vols?

Business reasons, I reckon.

If I remember correctly, S8 was supposed to be shorter than 40 issues, but it was stretched out for some reason. It's been a long time, so I don't remember exactly.

Season 9 is longer than Season 8- Season 9 is both Buffy AND Angel and Faith- thats more that 40 issues.

But reading Season 9 sure feels longer all on its own. 🙁

It's it because its both Angel and Faith in there too or something like that.
