Well, it's monday in my timezone now, so let's get cracking. This script is part of the VirtualSlayer.tk virtual continuations project, which features Angel s6, Buffy s8, and Buffy s9. If you haven't read season 8, we (of course) recommend you do, but you may also read the bio's on most the character, which will help you get up to date. TEASER
EXT. SUMMER'S RESIDENCE "“ DAY
Buffy is loading an overnight bag into the car. Dawn and
Xander stand off to the side. Dawn is eating a granola bar
and Xander has a mug of coffee.
BUFFY
Would it kill either of you to help
out?
They both look at her sleepily. Dawn takes a large bite of
the granola bar.
DAWN
Buffy, it's seven in the morning.
You can't really expect me to do
any kind of manual labor.
XANDER
Yeah, the Dawnster's right. Plus,
you've got the Slayer strength and
all. You can pack your own
overnight bag.
DAWN
And it's just the one, anyway. It's
not like you had piles of luggage.
BUFFY
It wasn't so much that I needed
help as that I wanted some kind of
communication. You guys have barely
said a word all morning.
DAWN
That's because you woke us up at
five O'clock asking whether the
clothes you were packing looked
'professional'.
BUFFY
I needed an honest opinion!
DAWN
This is why you should have
listened to Mom when she told you
to pack at least three days in
advance. I do not ever want to do
laundry at six am. Ever. Again.
BUFFY
I'll pay you back, Dawnie, I swear.
DAWN
(Crumpling the Granola bar
wrapper.)
Doubt it.
XANDER
So you're off to the big city,
Buff. Excited?
BUFFY
It's just for work. There's not
much to be excited about.
(Checks her watch.)
Well, I'd better go. I'm supposed
to be picking Hemmingway up soon.
DAWN
Can't he drive? He's what, forty or
so?
BUFFY
He's leaving the car for Lux.
DAWN
(Visibly waking up.)
Oh. Cool.
BUFFY
See you guys later. Remember, if
anything comes up, you can call me"”
Dawn rolls her eyes. It's obvious she's heard this speech
many times before. She recites along with Buffy:
DAWN AND BUFFY
-on my cell phone. The number's on
the fridge. I check my voice mail-
Buffy trails off as Dawn finishes:
DAWN
"”every chance I get. Blah, blah,
blah. Buffy, we'll be fine. I
highly doubt there'll be an
apocalypse while you're gone.
BUFFY
(Getting into the car.)
Never be too sure, Dawnie.
She closes the door and starts the engine before carefully
backing out of the driveway. Dawn and Xander offer half
hearted waves of goodbye.
XANDER
(Perking up.)
We got the house to ourselves,
Dawn. What're we gonna do for two
whole days?
DAWN
(Fully awake and
cheerful.)
I dunno. Something fun.
(Pause)
And hopefully non-demon-y.
XANDER
Good luck, kiddo.
He pats her on the shoulder and heads inside. Dawn stares off
down the road for a second before sighing and following him
inside.
FADE TO BLACK.

INT. HEMMINGWAY SUV "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Xander, driving down the highway. Willow sits in
the passenger seat and Lux sits squished between them, being
the ultimate "backseat driver". Kennedy, Dawn, and Kara all
sit in the back.
LUX
Watch out for that guy in the right
lane, he's speeding. Oh, and watch
out for the exit. It's coming up
soon. And make sure you don't make
any sudden stops.
DAWN
(Interrupting)
Lux, we're not gonna total your
dad's car.
LUX
(Unconvincingly)
I'm not worried about that.
KARA
Okay, remind me why we're even
doing this.
DAWN
Because Lux's car is the only one
that could fit all of us and that
Kennedy could get in easily"”
KARA
(Interrupting her)
No, not why we're using Lux's dad's
car. Why we're going in the first
place.
WILLOW
Because, this is your last summer
as high schoolers. We figured that
it might be fun for you guys to,
you know, walk on the wild side.
DAWN
Plus the fact that I might've
mentioned that Lux sort of
mentioned to me that she wanted to
go.
WILLOW
That too.
Kennedy has been silent throughout this entire conversation,
a fact that Willow has picked up on.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Ken, you okay?
KENNEDY
(Slightly bitter)
Just peachy.
LUX
(To Xander)
Exit! Right there!
Xander swerves over into the lane for the exit ramp.
LUX (CONT'D)
You're gonna wear down the tire
treads! The tires'll be bald and
I'll have to get replacements!
DAWN
Bald tires"¦ all you need is some
Rogaine.
Silence in the car.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Okay, bad pun. Bald tires.
(Chuckles)
It was kinda funny if you're me,
which I guess you're not, so I'll
be quiet now.
WILLOW
(Trying to spare Dawn's
feelings)
I thought it was funny.
DAWN
Nice try. Even I don't believe you.
Willow shrugs and settles back in her seat. Lux takes out a
road map and examines it. Kara puts on her headphones and
begins listening to a CD. Dawn reads a magazine. Kennedy just
stares at the road passing outside the window.
FADE TO:
The gang, still in the car, but it's obviously a while later.
Kara is now reading the magazine Dawn was reading previously.
Willow is sleeping. Dawn is braiding Kara's hair. Lux has her
shoes off and her bare feet propped up on the dashboard.
Kennedy still stares out the window.
DAWN (CONT'D)
How much longer?
Lux shuffles in a pile of maps and finally pulls one out.
LUX
Hey, only, like, two more miles!
DAWN
Joy.
XANDER
It'll only take five minutes or so.
DAWN
Good, 'cause I have to pee.
KARA
That was a piece of information I
could have done without, thank you
very much.
Dawn "accidentally" pulls some of Kara's hair, not hard
enough to really hurt, but hard enough to get her point
across.
KARA (CONT'D)
Ow!
DAWN
(Falsely sincere)
Ever so sorry.
KARA
You are not!
XANDER
Do you want me to turn this car
around?
DAWN AND KARA
No!
They settle down and wait. There is silence in the car"”for
about three seconds:
LUX
(Pointing out of frame)
Look! We're here!
Willow wakes up, startled.
WILLOW
Huh? What?
DAWN
We're here, finally.
Xander drives through the town. Through the windows of the
car, we can see that the place they are in is a stereotypical
California surfing/tourist town: board rentals, "snack
shacks", souvenir stands, the whole nine yards.
DAWN (CONT'D)
(Fake surfer "accent")
Like, dude, this is gnarly.
LUX
You're a very unconvincing surfer.
DAWN
(Pretending to be sad)
Yeah. I thought so.
KARA
I can't wait! I wanna try surfing.
DAWN
You've never surfed?
KARA
Nope.
DAWN
Me either.
(To Xander)
Hey, Xander, where are we going?
LUX
(Answering for Xander)
Seaside Villa.
DAWN
And that would be"¦?
LUX
That's the place that's sponsoring
the surf competitions this week.
DAWN
Cool! We'll be in the middle of the
action!
KARA
I claim TV!
Everyone stares at her.
KARA (CONT'D)
In the hotel room. I figured I'd
claim it now or I'd never get it.
DAWN
Fine, in that case, I claim all the
little shampoo bottles.
LUX
How many rooms do we have reserved?
XANDER
See, that's the thing. I tried to
call in reservations, but I
couldn't get through. I hope
there's still rooms open.
LUX
Me, too, because judging be all the
'no vacancy' signs we've passed,
the Seaside Villa is probably our
last hope.
KARA
You mean it's our last 'resort'?
A beat.
KARA (CONT'D)
What, only Dawn gets to make bad
jokes?
Xander pulls into a parking lot and stops the car.
LUX
And I claim a bed to myself.
Scowls from Dawn and Kara.
XANDER
Okay, everybody out!
Everyone except Kennedy gets out of the car as quickly as
possible and stretches their legs as we
CUT TO:
EXT. SEASIDE VILLA PARKING LOT - DAY
WILLOW
Why don't you guys go in and get
our rooms? I'll stay out here and
help Ken out.
XANDER
Wheelchair's folded in the back.
WILLOW
Gotcha.
The group opens the trunk and digs out their duffel bags,
suitcases, etc. and then Xander, Dawn, Lux, and Kara head for
the hotel.
CUT TO:
INT. SEASIDE VILLA LOBBY "“ DAY
The gang heads enters the lobby and looks around for a
second, letting their eyes adjust to the dimmer interior of
the hotel. Xander eventually leads the way to the check-in
desk.
XANDER (AWKWARDLY)
Hi.
DESK CLERK (KINDLY)
Hi, welcome to the Seaside Villa.
Do you have reservations?
XANDER
Not exactly"¦ no.
DESK CLERK
Well, we have a few vacancies left,
luckily. How many in your party?
XANDER
Six. There's two more coming.
DESK CLERK
(Checking listings on
computer)
Okay. We have one room open on this
floor and one open on the fifth
floor. Sound good?
XANDER
Fine by me.
DESK CLERK
How many nights will you be staying
with us?
XANDER
Just tonight.
DESK CLERK
Okay then.
He hands the desk clerk his credit card. He charges him
accordingly and hands it back, along with two room keys.
DESK CLERK (CONT'D)
Enjoy your stay in Solana Beach!
Xander turns around and gives a key to Dawn.
XANDER
You guys can take the room on the
fifth floor, and Will, Kennedy, and
I will take the one down here.
That'll be easier for Kennedy.
Okay?
DAWN
'Kay. Bye!
The girls race for the elevator and press the call button.
When the elevator arrives, they pile in. The doors close
behind them with a soft ding.
XANDER
(Sarcastically wistful)
They grow up so fast.
He turns and heads toward the parking lot to help Willow ad
Kennedy with the wheelchair and their bags.
FADE TO BLACK.

FADE TO:
EXT. BEACH "“ DAY
Lux, in a swimsuit, is renting a surfboard. We pan over to
the right and see the rest of the gang (with the exception of
Kennedy, who is in her wheelchair) sitting on a bench with
various food and drink: Willow has a water bottle, Xander has
an ice cream cone, Dawn and Kara suck on Popsicles, and
Kennedy slurps away at a smoothie. Lux returns to meet the
group, surfboard in hand, when suddenly someone calls her.
JEFF (O.S.)
Lux!
LUX
Oh, hi, Jeff!
JEFF jogs over.
JEFF
I thought you said you weren't
gonna come.
LUX
Change of plans.
Loud and obvious AHEM! from Dawn, who is still sitting on the
bench a few meters away.
LUX (CONT'D)
Oh, sorry. These are my friends
(Lux points as she names
them off)
Willow, Xander, Dawn, Kara, and
Kennedy.
JEFF
Nice to meet you.
DAWN
Likewise.
LUX
So, when are you guys surfing?
JEFF
Early this evening, around five.
You're gonna watch, right?
LUX
Definitely.
Lux sounds really interested in watching Jeff and his
friends, a fact not lost on Dawn and Kara, who exchange looks
that clearly say, "Ooh, Lux has a crush"¦"
JEFF
(Teasingly)
You're not afraid of the curse, are
you?
He says this sarcastically, trying to make the word "curse"
sound spooky. Lux is serious, though.
LUX
What curse?
JEFF
Just some urban-legend crap about a
curse on this beach. Every year,
around this time, when they hold
the surf contests, there's always a
storm, and apparently anyone who
tries to surf the waves during the
storm drowns.
LUX
You don't believe in it?
JEFF
Nah, like I said, it's just an
urban legend. The local surfers
probably tell it to scare off the
competition.
LUX
(Thoughtfully)
I do remember hearing something
about a death here last summer.
JEFF
Coincidence. I figure the guy just
made some kind of stupid mistake,
or it was a freak accident. I'm not
gonna make any mistakes. I know how
to surf. I'm not stupid.
KARA
(Muttering to Dawn)
Awfully full of ourselves, now,
aren't we?
Dawn elbows her before getting up and walking over to Lux,
trying to get her away from Jeff so she can talk to her.
DAWN
Hey, Lux, why don't we head back to
the hotel for lunch?
Lux is oblivious to Dawn's motive.
LUX
Why? We just got out here.
DAWN
(Thinking fast)
And I can feel my skin burning
already. And to think I forgot the
sunscreen! You're probably burning,
too. We don't want to be all
sunburned tomorrow, right?
She tugs Lux's arm. Lux follows, confused.
LUX
Uh, I guess. See you later, Jeff.
JEFF
Bye, Lux.
As soon as Jeff is far away, Lux yanks her arm away from
Dawn.
LUX
What was that about?
DAWN
The legend.
LUX
Yeah. What about it?
DAWN
I remember reading about it on the
Internet once while I was
researching something else. It
always comes at the same time as
the surf contest, no matter when
the contest is held. And every
year, at least one person dies
while surfing.
LUX
It's just a big coincidence, that's
all. You heard Jeff.
DAWN
Jeff doesn't know about demons and
stuff, or he'd be singing a
different tune. I think something
supernatural is going on.
LUX
It's just a coincidence.
DAWN
Try telling me that tomorrow when
someone is dead.
Lux pauses. Kara joins them.
KARA
It's just a little research. What
harm can it do?
Lux sighs.
LUX
Fine. But you'd better hope you
didn't just ruin my chances with
Jeff.
KARA
(Playfully)
Chances of what?
LUX
(Caught in what she said)
Oh, uh, nothing.
KARA
Lux has a crush!
LUX
I do not! Crushes are for junior
high kids.
Kara and Dawn merely exchange looks.
DAWN
Well, what are we waiting for?
Let's make with the research!
CUT TO:
INT. CYBER CAFE "“ DAY
Dawn, Kara, and Lux sit at computers, each one clicking and
typing away. They're still wearing bathing suit tops, but
they've put shorts or jeans on over the bathing suit bottoms,
so as to be 'acceptable' in public. Kara leans back in her
chair and sighs.
KARA
Okay, I got nothing.
DAWN
Try searching for mysterious storms
in connection with the
supernatural.
LUX
Oh, hey, I've got something!
(Pause)
No, wait, I don't.
DAWN
Ooh, but I do! Listen to this: it's
an article from the local paper,
dated three years ago. Apparently
the town lost two of its best
surfers in a mysterious storm that
just popped up in the middle of the
competition. As soon as the surfers
went under, the storm started
calming down. The bodies were never
recovered.
She clicks on something.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Oh, no, wait, they did find the
bodies! (pause) Oh. Eww. They were
mangled, almost beyond
identification.
LUX
I'm guessing closed-casket funeral?
DAWN
You're guessing right. So much for
the theory about scaring off the
competition.
KARA
Right. Why scare off your own team?
The girls turn back to their computers.
FADE TO:
INT. SEASIDE VILLA HOTEL ROOM "“ LATE AFTERNOON
Willow, who is dialing a number on the phone. She waits for a
second, then begins to speak:
WILLOW
Hi, Buffy. How's L.A.?
BUFFY (V.O.)
Oh, you know, same old, same old.
You?
WILLOW
Oh, we're not in Edmonsville.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Where are you, then? What if I had
tried to reach you? Are you trying
to give me a heart attack?
WILLOW
No. That's why I called. To let you
know we're here.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Okay, who's 'we' and where's
'here'?
WILLOW
Here's in Solana Beach, they're
having some kind of surf contest.
I'm here with Xander, Kennedy,
Dawnie, Lux, and Kara.
BUFFY (V.O.)
If anything happens to Lux"”
WILLOW
"”or Kara, I know, I know, it's our
responsibility.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Oh, yeah, that too. But remember,
Lux's dad is my boss!
WILLOW
Sort of.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Yeah, just don't get me sort of
fired. Please.
WILLOW
We'll try our hardest not to. So,
what's going on?
BUFFY (V.O.)
You mean since you last asked me?
WILLOW
Uh, yeah.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Well"¦
She lowers her voice.
BUFFY (CONT'D)
I didn't want to say anything
before, because Hemmingway was
right behind me, but"¦
(Pause)
I overheard him talking in the
corridor a little while ago. It
seemed a little"¦ off.
WILLOW
And"¦?
BUFFY (V.O.)
He said"¦ (slight pause) Hi,
Professor Hemmingway!
WILLOW
As far as suspicious conversations
go, that's not one. Well, a little
weird, granted, but"¦
Buffy ignores her. We hear her half of the conversation as
she talks to someone.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Oh, no, no problem, just talking to
Willow. Yeah, you know, just
checking in. Uh-huh. Okay.
(To Willow)
Will, I gotta go.
WILLOW
He's right behind you, isn't he?
BUFFY
Uh-huh. It's probably nothing
though. Talk to you later. Call me.
WILLOW
Got it. Bye.
She hangs up the phone just as there's a loud banging on the
door.

ACT III
FADE TO:
SEASIDE VILLA HOTEL ROOM "“ LATE AFTERNOON
CAMERA ON: Willow, watching the door. Banging continues,
followed by:
DAWN
Willow! Let us in!
Willow snaps back to reality and swiftly crosses the room to
open the door. Dawn, Kara, and Lux come rushing in with piles
of computer printouts.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Look at all this! I spent all my
souvenir money on 'em, but it'll be
worth it.
LUX
Here, listen to this:
She reads from a printout.
LUX (CONT'D)
"Every year, in what is known as
Teoleco, la Cólera de las Ondas
rises from the warm waters north of
the land of the Aztecs."
DAWN
We did some research, and it sounds
about right. "La Cólera de las
Ondas" means "the rage of the
waves" in Spanish, and the Aztecs
were a native civilization that
used to dominate Mexico. Teoleco is
the twelfth month of the Aztec
calendar. It means 'return of the
gods'.
WILLOW
I have to say, I'm impressed.
KARA
That's not all, either! The demon
is part of a race known as
Amphitrite demons. The species is
known worldwide, but you could
probably figure that out from the
differences in the languages used
to name it.
WILLOW
Amphitrite is a Greek god or
something, right?
KARA
Yep.
(Reading off a printout)
"A Nereid, goddess of the sea and
the wife of Poseidon."
XANDER
(Entering)
So, we've got ourselves a sea
demon.
DAWN
Yeah, looks like.
(Pause)
Hey, where have you been?
XANDER
Ken and I were out walking. Well, I
was... You know what I mean.
WILLOW
Where is she?
XANDER
Sitting outside on the pool patio.
WILLOW
Oh. Okay... So, got any way to kill
this thing?
DAWN
Only theories. At least we know
what we're dealing with now.
LUX
A big, nasty demon.
DAWN
With an agenda. I think it rises
from the water to feed. We read old
news reports, and they said that as
soon as the surfers in previous
years fell into the waves, the
storm began to settle down, like
the demon was satisfied.
KARA
And when the bodies were found,
they were really badly mangled.
XANDER
So, are we thinking these guys were
just nummy treats for La Cólera de
la what's-its-face?
DAWN
La Cólera de las Ondas, and yeah,
that's what I'm thinking, at least.
WILLOW
But if this has been going on for
years; why do people keep
organising this contest?
DAWN
Well, the coming of the demon just
so happens to bring awesome waves
with it.
LUX
So, we've gotta figure out how to
kill it before"”
KARA
Now!
LUX
What?
KARA
The competition starts in, like,
ten minutes!
LUX
You've got to be kidding.
DAWN
Okay, there's no time to figure
this out.
WILLOW
How are we supposed to kill it?
DAWN
Weapons.
No one moves.
LUX
Isn't this usually the part where
we all rush to arm ourselves.
WILLOW
Dawn, we didn't bring the heavy
duty stuff. Only a couple crosses
and stakes.
DAWN
Well, then, let's get those. Hey,
could you do a spell to affect the
storm?
WILLOW
I don't know. What did you have in
mind?
DAWN
I dunno, conjure up a weatherman or
something!
Willow raises an eyebrow.
WILLOW
I'll try to think of something.
KARA
Hi. Uh, small suggestion here: Why
don't we just convince Jeff and the
other guys not to go out?
LUX
You heard Jeff before. They all
think it's a legend. They won't
listen.
KARA
Okay, then, sabotage the
competition.
DAWN
What do you mean?
KARA
I don't know, steal their boards or
something.
LUX
They'll just rent some new ones.
Nothing will stop them from going
out and winning.
WILLOW
(Sighs)
Then I guess we're headed out.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH "“ LATE AFTERNOON
Willow and Lux are decked out in swimsuits and ready to kick
some demon butt! Dawn and Kara are not there though and
Kennedy and Xander are still dressed in street clothes.
Kennedy seems slightly "out-of-it", almost like she's on the
verge of being drunk. No one seems to take note of her
though.
XANDER
Good luck.
WILLOW
Thanks. I have a feeling we'll need
it.
Dawn runs in.
DAWN
The boat's rented.
WILLOW
Good. Let's go.
Willow, Lux, and Dawn head out, ready to fight.
XANDER
Guess it's just you and me, huh,
Ken?
KENNEDY
I'm just overwhelmed with joy.
XANDER
C'mon, it'll be fun. I'm sure
there's a beach party we can crash.
Kennedy sighs.
KENNEDY
Sure. Whatever.
FADE TO:
EXT. OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara, putting the key in the ignition.
DAWN
Where did you learn to drive boats?
KARA
My aunt and uncle used to have one.
They taught me.
DAWN
Oh.
LUX
I don't even get why we're so
desperate to get out here. How are
we going to fight a demon that
supposedly lives under water?
DAWN
I'm not sure. Concern numero uno,
though: getting Jeff and everybody
out of the storm, safe and sound.
KARA
Hey, Lux, I brought some printouts
I didn't get to read fully. They're
under the life preserver. Read them
and see if there's anything that'll
help.
LUX
Okay.
Lux takes out the papers and divides the pile in half, giving
some to Dawn and keeping the others for herself.
KARA
Here we go!
The engine starts and the gang takes off.
CUT TO:
EXT. OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Willow, Dawn, and Lux reading the printouts.
WILLOW
I've got it!
DAWN
What?
WILLOW
An incantation. It will weaken the
demon. Or possibly call it forth.
LUX
Let's risk it. It's already been
called forth anyway. So, how weak
are talking?
WILLOW
Hopefully enough to eventually kill
it.
KARA
Score one for the home team! Let's
just hope it's enough.
CUT TO:
EXT. SEASIDE VILLA POOL PATIO "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kennedy, sitting in her wheelchair in the midst of
a party of sorts, watching Xander's trademark bad dancing.
She sighs and glances down at her now useless legs before
picking up a bottle of wine cooler that's on the table next
to her. We
ZOOM OUT
And see that there are two empty wine cooler bottles next to
it, presumably Kennedy's.
CAMERA ON: Xander returning from the dance floor.
XANDER
(Breathless)
Whew! Haven't had that kind of
crazy fun since"”
He cuts off, seeing Kennedy and her array of empty liquor
bottles.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Whoa, Ken, easy on the Seabreeze
there.
Kennedy hiccups and smiles. We can tell she's rather drunk.
KENNEDY
Just getting into the spirit. We're
on the sea, and there's a breeze,
and so I decided to drink
Seabreeze!
She goes to take another gulp from the bottle, but Xander
grabs it first.
XANDER
Oh, no, no more alcohol for you.
What's with the excessive
drunkenness anyway?
KENNEDY
I just needed an escape. You know,
just have some fun.
XANDER
I don't follow.
KENNEDY
Well, I can't dance, I can't swim,
I can barely do anything without
help, and"”
She begins crying drunkenly.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
I can't even do wheelies!
Xander glances at Kennedy's wheelchair and tries awkwardly to
comfort her.
XANDER
Um, maybe when we get home I can
try to help you learn.
KENNEDY
(Ignoring him)
And Willow doesn't love me anymore!
She wails. Several people at other tables turn to stare.
XANDER
Uh, Ken, why don't we go back to
the hotel?
KENNEDY
(Still wailing)
Nobody loves me! I want another
drink!
XANDER
Oh, no, no more drinks for you, Ms.
Suarez.
As Xander takes moves some half full glasses to his side of
the table, Kennedy looks in his eyes and then to his lips,
she leans over a bit, and might very well be about to kiss
him, when her wheelchair tips over. Xander is barely fast
enough to prevent her from falling. As he puts her back up,
she smiles at him.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Let's go... off to bed with you.
He stands and begins to push the wheelchair-bound Kennedy
away from the party and back toward the hotel.
CUT TO:
EXT. OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn, who is staring backwards toward the shore.
LUX
I think it's started. They're
headed for the water.
Kara looks up. Gray storms clouds are piling in quickly.
KARA
Looks like rain.
DAWN
And I didn't even bring a raincoat.
Kara cuts the engine and, for one second, everything is
quiet. But suddenly the wind picks up and the gang's
printouts blow all over the place. Willow manages to hold on
to the incantation, though. Waves begin to crash as the storm
bursts. Rain comes down in torrents.
WILLOW
The ink's gonna run!
She crouches down on the floor of the boat and holds the
printout under her, trying to shield it from the rain.
KARA
Uh, Will, now would be a good time
to start!
Willow nods and, still crouched over the paper, begins to
read:
WILLOW

Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo.

DAWN
C'mon, keep going!
Willow continues to chant. Suddenly, a wave rocks the boat.
Kara, the only one standing up, loses her balance and falls
into the water.
KARA
Help!
DAWN
Kara!

FADE TO:
OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn, running over to try and lift Kara out of the
water. Lux is right behind her. They both grab one of Kara's
arms and try to haul her out as Willow continues to chant. A
wave swamps the boat and Lux and Dawn lose their grip on
Kara.
LUX
Kara!
DAWN
Kara! Where are you?
The rain pours down harder and the waves pummel the sides of
the boat. Suddenly, we see Kara's head surface. Her eyes are
closed.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Kara!
(To Lux)
Quick, get me the life preserver.
Lux runs and grabs the life preserver. Dawn grabs it and
loops both arms through it before jumping into the churning
waters.
WILLOW
Dawn!
LUX
(To Willow)
Keep chanting! We can't afford to
have you not.
Dawn's head surfaces and she begins swimming after Kara.
WILLOW
(Frantically)
La Cólera de las Ondas
Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo.
Dawn reaches Kara and grabs her. She begins to swim back with
Kara in tow, but the current seems to be pulling the two of
them away from the boat.
DAWN
Lux! A little help!
Lux grabs the rope attaching the boat to the life preserver
and, hand over hand, begins pulling Dawn and Kara in. Willow
continues chanting.
WILLOW (SCREAMING)
La Cólera de las Ondas
Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo!
Suddenly, as Dawn climbs into the boat, pulling Kara behind
her, a booming female voice (la Colera de las Ondas) answers
Willow's chant.
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS
You think you can beat me, little
human? I am more powerful than you
can comprehend!
WILLOW
(Coolly)
It's actually not too hard to
comprehend, seeing the world is
seventy percent water. But you
wanna know something?
She concentrates, then hold out her hands before clapping
them together. There is a tremendous boom of thunder as
Willow's power surges outwards; her hair turning the
signature white colour.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
I'm the one with the power. I'm the
one in control here. You're a big
bad sea demon.
Well, I'm the big bad witch. And I
don't think you wanna make me mad.
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS
You have nothing, you fool!
Borrowed power!
WILLOW
I'd rather have borrowed power than
none.
She holds her hands up toward the sky and chants, louder than
ever before:
WILLOW (CONT'D)
la Colera de las Ondas
CESARA COMO HABLO
Y EL MAR SERA SILENCIOSO DE NUEVO!!
There is a horrible crash of waves and a flash of lightening,
and then a light forms around Willow. It flashes outward, and
the second it touches the clouds, they are dissolved. The
rain stops and the sun shines once more. Willow falls to her
knees, breathing heavily, while Kara doesn't seem to be
breathing at all. Dawn shakes Kara.
DAWN
Kara! Kara, can you hear me?
She puts her head near Kara's mouth, listening for her
breathing. Apparently, she doesn't hear any.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Kara! Kara, wake up!
She shakes her again. Nothing happens.
LUX
Kara!
Suddenly, Kara begins to cough. She leans over to the side
and coughs up some water.
LUX (CONT'D)
Kara! Oh my god, you scared me.
DAWN
How do you feel?
KARA
Like I just got about three gallons
of water up my nose. You?
Dawn smiles.
DAWN
Something like that.
WILLOW
Uh, guys?
The TRIO follows Willow's line of vision to find themselves
staring at la Colera de las Ondas, who is corporeal and
looking pretty ticked off.
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS
Do you expect me to be impressed?
So you beat the storm. Good for
you. You haven't beaten me yet.
Behind la Colera de las Ondas, Dawn begins to sneak toward a
fire extinguisher, apparently with the intent of hitting the
demon with it. Before she's gotten far, la Colera de las
Ondas whirls around to face her and says:
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS (CONT'D)
Don't even think about it. You
can't trick me, little girl. I am
far more powerful than you can
imagine. The entire ocean is at my
disposal. If you think--
The demon is cut off when Kara, from her position on the
floor of the boat, kicks the demon, using both feet for the
maximum amount of force. The demon is distracted. Willow
takes advantage of the moment and whips a stake out from the
beach bag she brought onto the boat. She drives it deep into
the demon's back. La Colera de las Ondas howls in pain, just
as Dawn grabs the fire extinguisher and hits the demon with
it.
WILLOW
Suffoco!
A beach towel flies out of the beach bag and wraps itself
around la Colera de las Ondas's neck. After a few minutes, la
Colera de las Ondas falls onto the deck of the boat and lies
still.
DAWN
What are we gonna do with the body?
Just throw it overboard?
As soon as she finishes asking this, the body dissolves into
a puddle of water, then evaporates.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Guess not.
FADE TO:
INT. SEASIDE VILLA PARKING LOT "“ DAY
Xander, packing the overnight bags into the car.
CUT TO:
Lux, talking to Jeff.
LUX
Yeah, I'm sorry I missed it.
JEFF
You should've seen it. It was one
crazy storm! And we surfed it all,
no problem.
LUX
So I've heard. But, yeah, like I
said, I was watching this really
cool show on TV and I just fell
asleep. I guess I was really tired.
I didn't even wake up from the
thunder or anything.
Jeff is clearly more interested in telling Lux about his
surfing accomplishments than in hearing what she has to say.
JEFF
Yeah. So, the guys were all, "Oh,
let's not go out. It's too
dangerous", and I was like, "No
way, this'll be great!" And I was
so right. Dude, those waves were
killer!
PAN TO:
Dawn. We can still hear Lux and Jeff talking, or rather, Jeff
talking, but it's indistinct. Dawn looks like she's taking
pity on her friend.
PAN TO:
Lux and Jeff again.
JEFF (CONT'D)
And the judges though it was so
great. So afterwards, we went to"”
Dawn joins them.
DAWN
Hey, guys. Uh, Lux, Xander's kind
of ready to go.
LUX
Oh, uh, okay.
(To Jeff)
I'll see you later.
JEFF
Uh, sure. It's been great. But you
should've seen it!
LUX
Uh, sorry I missed it. Bye.
JEFF
Bye.
He leaves. Dawn and Lux pile into the car, saying as they do:
LUX
Thank you. So. Much.
DAWN
I figured I talk your ear off
enough as it is. You don't need
other people doing it, too.
CUT TO:
INT. HEMMINGWAY SUV "“ DAY
All the Scoobies are in the car again. Same positions, except
for Lux and Kara.
LUX
Did I ever mention that you're the
greatest friend in the world?
KARA
Hey!
LUX
You, too.
CUT TO:
EXT. SEASIDE VILLA PARKING LOT - DAY
Exterior view of the SUV as it pulls out of the hotel parking
lot and into the street.
DAWN (V.O.)
Hmm, greatest friend in the world,
huh? I'll have to remember that.
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ NIGHT
The scoobies arrive home after their little trip. They all
walk up to the front door (except for Kennedy, who is rolling
herself along), which XANDER unlocks. They climb the stairs.
(Xander and Willow helping Kennedy up.)
XANDER
I hope you girls aren't too tired
for school tomorrow. I know that no
one actually sleeps at a sleepover,
but for the sanity of youselves and
everyone around you--
WILLOW
Namely, us.
XANDER
Right. Get some sleep.
DAWN
Don't have to worry about me. I'm
exhausted.
KARA
Aw, I was kinda hoping we could
watch movies until three or four in
the morning.
They've reached and are now entering the living room.
DAWN
As great as that sounds, I"”
She stops talking abruptly, stunned by something she has seen
off camera. We follow her point of view and see Buffy sitting
on the couch, looking unhappy. Next to her sits AMY MADISON.

Buffy is loading an overnight bag into the car. Dawn and
Xander stand off to the side. Dawn is eating a granola bar
and Xander has a mug of coffee.
BUFFY
Would it kill either of you to help
out?
They both look at her sleepily. Dawn takes a large bite of
the granola bar.
DAWN
Buffy, it's seven in the morning.
You can't really expect me to do
any kind of manual labor.
XANDER
Yeah, the Dawnster's right. Plus,
you've got the Slayer strength and
all. You can pack your own
overnight bag.
DAWN
And it's just the one, anyway. It's
not like you had piles of luggage.
BUFFY
It wasn't so much that I needed
help as that I wanted some kind of
communication. You guys have barely
said a word all morning.
DAWN
That's because you woke us up at
five O'clock asking whether the
clothes you were packing looked
'professional'.
BUFFY
I needed an honest opinion!
DAWN
This is why you should have
listened to Mom when she told you
to pack at least three days in
advance. I do not ever want to do
laundry at six am. Ever. Again.
BUFFY
I'll pay you back, Dawnie, I swear.
DAWN
(Crumpling the Granola bar
wrapper.)
Doubt it.
XANDER
So you're off to the big city,
Buff. Excited?
BUFFY
It's just for work. There's not
much to be excited about.
(Checks her watch.)
Well, I'd better go. I'm supposed
to be picking Hemmingway up soon.
DAWN
Can't he drive? He's what, forty or
so?
BUFFY
He's leaving the car for Lux.
DAWN
(Visibly waking up.)
Oh. Cool.
BUFFY
See you guys later. Remember, if
anything comes up, you can call me"”
Dawn rolls her eyes. It's obvious she's heard this speech
many times before. She recites along with Buffy:
DAWN AND BUFFY
-on my cell phone. The number's on
the fridge. I check my voice mail-
Buffy trails off as Dawn finishes:
DAWN
"”every chance I get. Blah, blah,
blah. Buffy, we'll be fine. I
highly doubt there'll be an
apocalypse while you're gone.
BUFFY
(Getting into the car.)
Never be too sure, Dawnie.
She closes the door and starts the engine before carefully
backing out of the driveway. Dawn and Xander offer half
hearted waves of goodbye.
XANDER
(Perking up.)
We got the house to ourselves,
Dawn. What're we gonna do for two
whole days?
DAWN
(Fully awake and
cheerful.)
I dunno. Something fun.
(Pause)
And hopefully non-demon-y.
XANDER
Good luck, kiddo.
He pats her on the shoulder and heads inside. Dawn stares off
down the road for a second before sighing and following him
inside.

the ultimate "backseat driver". Kennedy, Dawn, and Kara all
sit in the back.
LUX
Watch out for that guy in the right
lane, he's speeding. Oh, and watch
out for the exit. It's coming up
soon. And make sure you don't make
any sudden stops.
DAWN
(Interrupting)
Lux, we're not gonna total your
dad's car.
LUX
(Unconvincingly)
I'm not worried about that.
KARA
Okay, remind me why we're even
doing this.
DAWN
Because Lux's car is the only one
that could fit all of us and that
Kennedy could get in easily"”
KARA
(Interrupting her)
No, not why we're using Lux's dad's
car. Why we're going in the first
place.
WILLOW
Because, this is your last summer
as high schoolers. We figured that
it might be fun for you guys to,
you know, walk on the wild side.
DAWN
Plus the fact that I might've
mentioned that Lux sort of
mentioned to me that she wanted to
go.
WILLOW
That too.
Kennedy has been silent throughout this entire conversation,
a fact that Willow has picked up on.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Ken, you okay?
KENNEDY
(Slightly bitter)
Just peachy.
LUX
(To Xander)
Exit! Right there!
Xander swerves over into the lane for the exit ramp.
LUX (CONT'D)
You're gonna wear down the tire
treads! The tires'll be bald and
I'll have to get replacements!
DAWN
Bald tires"¦ all you need is some
Rogaine.
Silence in the car.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Okay, bad pun. Bald tires.
(Chuckles)
It was kinda funny if you're me,
which I guess you're not, so I'll
be quiet now.
WILLOW
(Trying to spare Dawn's
feelings)
I thought it was funny.
DAWN
Nice try. Even I don't believe you.
Willow shrugs and settles back in her seat. Lux takes out a
road map and examines it. Kara puts on her headphones and
begins listening to a CD. Dawn reads a magazine. Kennedy just
stares at the road passing outside the window.
FADE TO:
The gang, still in the car, but it's obviously a while later.
Kara is now reading the magazine Dawn was reading previously.
Willow is sleeping. Dawn is braiding Kara's hair. Lux has her
shoes off and her bare feet propped up on the dashboard.
Kennedy still stares out the window.
DAWN (CONT'D)
How much longer?
Lux shuffles in a pile of maps and finally pulls one out.
LUX
Hey, only, like, two more miles!
DAWN
Joy.
XANDER
It'll only take five minutes or so.
DAWN
Good, 'cause I have to pee.
KARA
That was a piece of information I
could have done without, thank you
very much.
Dawn "accidentally" pulls some of Kara's hair, not hard
enough to really hurt, but hard enough to get her point
across.
KARA (CONT'D)
Ow!
DAWN
(Falsely sincere)
Ever so sorry.
KARA
You are not!
XANDER
Do you want me to turn this car
around?
DAWN AND KARA
No!
They settle down and wait. There is silence in the car"”for
about three seconds:
LUX
(Pointing out of frame)
Look! We're here!
Willow wakes up, startled.
WILLOW
Huh? What?
DAWN
We're here, finally.
Xander drives through the town. Through the windows of the
car, we can see that the place they are in is a stereotypical
California surfing/tourist town: board rentals, "snack
shacks", souvenir stands, the whole nine yards.
DAWN (CONT'D)
(Fake surfer "accent")
Like, dude, this is gnarly.
LUX
You're a very unconvincing surfer.
DAWN
(Pretending to be sad)
Yeah. I thought so.
KARA
I can't wait! I wanna try surfing.
DAWN
You've never surfed?
KARA
Nope.
DAWN
Me either.
(To Xander)
Hey, Xander, where are we going?
LUX
(Answering for Xander)
Seaside Villa.
DAWN
And that would be"¦?
LUX
That's the place that's sponsoring
the surf competitions this week.
DAWN
Cool! We'll be in the middle of the
action!
KARA
I claim TV!
Everyone stares at her.
KARA (CONT'D)
In the hotel room. I figured I'd
claim it now or I'd never get it.
DAWN
Fine, in that case, I claim all the
little shampoo bottles.
LUX
How many rooms do we have reserved?
XANDER
See, that's the thing. I tried to
call in reservations, but I
couldn't get through. I hope
there's still rooms open.
LUX
Me, too, because judging be all the
'no vacancy' signs we've passed,
the Seaside Villa is probably our
last hope.
KARA
You mean it's our last 'resort'?
A beat.
KARA (CONT'D)
What, only Dawn gets to make bad
jokes?
Xander pulls into a parking lot and stops the car.
LUX
And I claim a bed to myself.
Scowls from Dawn and Kara.
XANDER
Okay, everybody out!
Everyone except Kennedy gets out of the car as quickly as
possible and stretches their legs as we
CUT TO:
EXT. SEASIDE VILLA PARKING LOT - DAY
WILLOW
Why don't you guys go in and get
our rooms? I'll stay out here and
help Ken out.
XANDER
Wheelchair's folded in the back.
WILLOW
Gotcha.
The group opens the trunk and digs out their duffel bags,
suitcases, etc. and then Xander, Dawn, Lux, and Kara head for
the hotel.
CUT TO:
INT. SEASIDE VILLA LOBBY "“ DAY
The gang heads enters the lobby and looks around for a
second, letting their eyes adjust to the dimmer interior of
the hotel. Xander eventually leads the way to the check-in
desk.
XANDER (AWKWARDLY)
Hi.
DESK CLERK (KINDLY)
Hi, welcome to the Seaside Villa.
Do you have reservations?
XANDER
Not exactly"¦ no.
DESK CLERK
Well, we have a few vacancies left,
luckily. How many in your party?
XANDER
Six. There's two more coming.
DESK CLERK
(Checking listings on
computer)
Okay. We have one room open on this
floor and one open on the fifth
floor. Sound good?
XANDER
Fine by me.
DESK CLERK
How many nights will you be staying
with us?
XANDER
Just tonight.
DESK CLERK
Okay then.
He hands the desk clerk his credit card. He charges him
accordingly and hands it back, along with two room keys.
DESK CLERK (CONT'D)
Enjoy your stay in Solana Beach!
Xander turns around and gives a key to Dawn.
XANDER
You guys can take the room on the
fifth floor, and Will, Kennedy, and
I will take the one down here.
That'll be easier for Kennedy.
Okay?
DAWN
'Kay. Bye!
The girls race for the elevator and press the call button.
When the elevator arrives, they pile in. The doors close
behind them with a soft ding.
XANDER
(Sarcastically wistful)
They grow up so fast.
He turns and heads toward the parking lot to help Willow ad
Kennedy with the wheelchair and their bags.

FADE TO:
EXT. BEACH "“ DAY
Lux, in a swimsuit, is renting a surfboard. We pan over to
the right and see the rest of the gang (with the exception of
Kennedy, who is in her wheelchair) sitting on a bench with
various food and drink: Willow has a water bottle, Xander has
an ice cream cone, Dawn and Kara suck on Popsicles, and
Kennedy slurps away at a smoothie. Lux returns to meet the
group, surfboard in hand, when suddenly someone calls her.
JEFF (O.S.)
Lux!
LUX
Oh, hi, Jeff!
JEFF jogs over.
JEFF
I thought you said you weren't
gonna come.
LUX
Change of plans.
Loud and obvious AHEM! from Dawn, who is still sitting on the
bench a few meters away.
LUX (CONT'D)
Oh, sorry. These are my friends
(Lux points as she names
them off)
Willow, Xander, Dawn, Kara, and
Kennedy.
JEFF
Nice to meet you.
DAWN
Likewise.
LUX
So, when are you guys surfing?
JEFF
Early this evening, around five.
You're gonna watch, right?
LUX
Definitely.
Lux sounds really interested in watching Jeff and his
friends, a fact not lost on Dawn and Kara, who exchange looks
that clearly say, "Ooh, Lux has a crush"¦"
JEFF
(Teasingly)
You're not afraid of the curse, are
you?
He says this sarcastically, trying to make the word "curse"
sound spooky. Lux is serious, though.
LUX
What curse?
JEFF
Just some urban-legend crap about a
curse on this beach. Every year,
around this time, when they hold
the surf contests, there's always a
storm, and apparently anyone who
tries to surf the waves during the
storm drowns.
LUX
You don't believe in it?
JEFF
Nah, like I said, it's just an
urban legend. The local surfers
probably tell it to scare off the
competition.
LUX
(Thoughtfully)
I do remember hearing something
about a death here last summer.
JEFF
Coincidence. I figure the guy just
made some kind of stupid mistake,
or it was a freak accident. I'm not
gonna make any mistakes. I know how
to surf. I'm not stupid.
KARA
(Muttering to Dawn)
Awfully full of ourselves, now,
aren't we?
Dawn elbows her before getting up and walking over to Lux,
trying to get her away from Jeff so she can talk to her.
DAWN
Hey, Lux, why don't we head back to
the hotel for lunch?
Lux is oblivious to Dawn's motive.
LUX
Why? We just got out here.
DAWN
(Thinking fast)
And I can feel my skin burning
already. And to think I forgot the
sunscreen! You're probably burning,
too. We don't want to be all
sunburned tomorrow, right?
She tugs Lux's arm. Lux follows, confused.
LUX
Uh, I guess. See you later, Jeff.
JEFF
Bye, Lux.
As soon as Jeff is far away, Lux yanks her arm away from
Dawn.
LUX
What was that about?
DAWN
The legend.
LUX
Yeah. What about it?
DAWN
I remember reading about it on the
Internet once while I was
researching something else. It
always comes at the same time as
the surf contest, no matter when
the contest is held. And every
year, at least one person dies
while surfing.
LUX
It's just a big coincidence, that's
all. You heard Jeff.
DAWN
Jeff doesn't know about demons and
stuff, or he'd be singing a
different tune. I think something
supernatural is going on.
LUX
It's just a coincidence.
DAWN
Try telling me that tomorrow when
someone is dead.
Lux pauses. Kara joins them.
KARA
It's just a little research. What
harm can it do?
Lux sighs.
LUX
Fine. But you'd better hope you
didn't just ruin my chances with
Jeff.
KARA
(Playfully)
Chances of what?
LUX
(Caught in what she said)
Oh, uh, nothing.
KARA
Lux has a crush!
LUX
I do not! Crushes are for junior
high kids.
Kara and Dawn merely exchange looks.
DAWN
Well, what are we waiting for?
Let's make with the research!
CUT TO:
INT. CYBER CAFE "“ DAY
Dawn, Kara, and Lux sit at computers, each one clicking and
typing away. They're still wearing bathing suit tops, but
they've put shorts or jeans on over the bathing suit bottoms,
so as to be 'acceptable' in public. Kara leans back in her
chair and sighs.
KARA
Okay, I got nothing.
DAWN
Try searching for mysterious storms
in connection with the
supernatural.
LUX
Oh, hey, I've got something!
(Pause)
No, wait, I don't.
DAWN
Ooh, but I do! Listen to this: it's
an article from the local paper,
dated three years ago. Apparently
the town lost two of its best
surfers in a mysterious storm that
just popped up in the middle of the
competition. As soon as the surfers
went under, the storm started
calming down. The bodies were never
recovered.
She clicks on something.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Oh, no, wait, they did find the
bodies! (pause) Oh. Eww. They were
mangled, almost beyond
identification.
LUX
I'm guessing closed-casket funeral?
DAWN
You're guessing right. So much for
the theory about scaring off the
competition.
KARA
Right. Why scare off your own team?
The girls turn back to their computers.
FADE TO:
INT. SEASIDE VILLA HOTEL ROOM "“ LATE AFTERNOON
Willow, who is dialing a number on the phone. She waits for a
second, then begins to speak:
WILLOW
Hi, Buffy. How's L.A.?
BUFFY (V.O.)
Oh, you know, same old, same old.
You?
WILLOW
Oh, we're not in Edmonsville.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Where are you, then? What if I had
tried to reach you? Are you trying
to give me a heart attack?
WILLOW
No. That's why I called. To let you
know we're here.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Okay, who's 'we' and where's
'here'?
WILLOW
Here's in Solana Beach, they're
having some kind of surf contest.
I'm here with Xander, Kennedy,
Dawnie, Lux, and Kara.
BUFFY (V.O.)
If anything happens to Lux"”
WILLOW
"”or Kara, I know, I know, it's our
responsibility.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Oh, yeah, that too. But remember,
Lux's dad is my boss!
WILLOW
Sort of.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Yeah, just don't get me sort of
fired. Please.
WILLOW
We'll try our hardest not to. So,
what's going on?
BUFFY (V.O.)
You mean since you last asked me?
WILLOW
Uh, yeah.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Well"¦
She lowers her voice.
BUFFY (CONT'D)
I didn't want to say anything
before, because Hemmingway was
right behind me, but"¦
(Pause)
I overheard him talking in the
corridor a little while ago. It
seemed a little"¦ off.
WILLOW
And"¦?
BUFFY (V.O.)
He said"¦ (slight pause) Hi,
Professor Hemmingway!
WILLOW
As far as suspicious conversations
go, that's not one. Well, a little
weird, granted, but"¦
Buffy ignores her. We hear her half of the conversation as
she talks to someone.
BUFFY (V.O.)
Oh, no, no problem, just talking to
Willow. Yeah, you know, just
checking in. Uh-huh. Okay.
(To Willow)
Will, I gotta go.
WILLOW
He's right behind you, isn't he?
BUFFY
Uh-huh. It's probably nothing
though. Talk to you later. Call me.
WILLOW
Got it. Bye.
She hangs up the phone just as there's a loud banging on the
door.
FADE TO BLACK.

ACT III
FADE TO:
SEASIDE VILLA HOTEL ROOM "“ LATE AFTERNOON
CAMERA ON: Willow, watching the door. Banging continues,
followed by:
DAWN
Willow! Let us in!
Willow snaps back to reality and swiftly crosses the room to
open the door. Dawn, Kara, and Lux come rushing in with piles
of computer printouts.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Look at all this! I spent all my
souvenir money on 'em, but it'll be
worth it.
LUX
Here, listen to this:
She reads from a printout.
LUX (CONT'D)
"Every year, in what is known as
Teoleco, la Cólera de las Ondas
rises from the warm waters north of
the land of the Aztecs."
DAWN
We did some research, and it sounds
about right. "La Cólera de las
Ondas" means "the rage of the
waves" in Spanish, and the Aztecs
were a native civilization that
used to dominate Mexico. Teoleco is
the twelfth month of the Aztec
calendar. It means 'return of the
gods'.
WILLOW
I have to say, I'm impressed.
KARA
That's not all, either! The demon
is part of a race known as
Amphitrite demons. The species is
known worldwide, but you could
probably figure that out from the
differences in the languages used
to name it.
WILLOW
Amphitrite is a Greek god or
something, right?
KARA
Yep.
(Reading off a printout)
"A Nereid, goddess of the sea and
the wife of Poseidon."
XANDER
(Entering)
So, we've got ourselves a sea
demon.
DAWN
Yeah, looks like.
(Pause)
Hey, where have you been?
XANDER
Ken and I were out walking. Well, I
was... You know what I mean.
WILLOW
Where is she?
XANDER
Sitting outside on the pool patio.
WILLOW
Oh. Okay... So, got any way to kill
this thing?
DAWN
Only theories. At least we know
what we're dealing with now.
LUX
A big, nasty demon.
DAWN
With an agenda. I think it rises
from the water to feed. We read old
news reports, and they said that as
soon as the surfers in previous
years fell into the waves, the
storm began to settle down, like
the demon was satisfied.
KARA
And when the bodies were found,
they were really badly mangled.
XANDER
So, are we thinking these guys were
just nummy treats for La Cólera de
la what's-its-face?
DAWN
La Cólera de las Ondas, and yeah,
that's what I'm thinking, at least.
WILLOW
But if this has been going on for
years; why do people keep
organising this contest?
DAWN
Well, the coming of the demon just
so happens to bring awesome waves
with it.
LUX
So, we've gotta figure out how to
kill it before"”
KARA
Now!
LUX
What?
KARA
The competition starts in, like,
ten minutes!
LUX
You've got to be kidding.
DAWN
Okay, there's no time to figure
this out.
WILLOW
How are we supposed to kill it?
DAWN
Weapons.
No one moves.
LUX
Isn't this usually the part where
we all rush to arm ourselves.
WILLOW
Dawn, we didn't bring the heavy
duty stuff. Only a couple crosses
and stakes.
DAWN
Well, then, let's get those. Hey,
could you do a spell to affect the
storm?
WILLOW
I don't know. What did you have in
mind?
DAWN
I dunno, conjure up a weatherman or
something!
Willow raises an eyebrow.
WILLOW
I'll try to think of something.
KARA
Hi. Uh, small suggestion here: Why
don't we just convince Jeff and the
other guys not to go out?
LUX
You heard Jeff before. They all
think it's a legend. They won't
listen.
KARA
Okay, then, sabotage the
competition.
DAWN
What do you mean?
KARA
I don't know, steal their boards or
something.
LUX
They'll just rent some new ones.
Nothing will stop them from going
out and winning.
WILLOW
(Sighs)
Then I guess we're headed out.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH "“ LATE AFTERNOON
Willow and Lux are decked out in swimsuits and ready to kick
some demon butt! Dawn and Kara are not there though and
Kennedy and Xander are still dressed in street clothes.
Kennedy seems slightly "out-of-it", almost like she's on the
verge of being drunk. No one seems to take note of her
though.
XANDER
Good luck.
WILLOW
Thanks. I have a feeling we'll need
it.
Dawn runs in.
DAWN
The boat's rented.
WILLOW
Good. Let's go.
Willow, Lux, and Dawn head out, ready to fight.
XANDER
Guess it's just you and me, huh,
Ken?
KENNEDY
I'm just overwhelmed with joy.
XANDER
C'mon, it'll be fun. I'm sure
there's a beach party we can crash.
Kennedy sighs.
KENNEDY
Sure. Whatever.
FADE TO:
EXT. OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara, putting the key in the ignition.
DAWN
Where did you learn to drive boats?
KARA
My aunt and uncle used to have one.
They taught me.
DAWN
Oh.
LUX
I don't even get why we're so
desperate to get out here. How are
we going to fight a demon that
supposedly lives under water?
DAWN
I'm not sure. Concern numero uno,
though: getting Jeff and everybody
out of the storm, safe and sound.
KARA
Hey, Lux, I brought some printouts
I didn't get to read fully. They're
under the life preserver. Read them
and see if there's anything that'll
help.
LUX
Okay.
Lux takes out the papers and divides the pile in half, giving
some to Dawn and keeping the others for herself.
KARA
Here we go!
The engine starts and the gang takes off.
CUT TO:
EXT. OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Willow, Dawn, and Lux reading the printouts.
WILLOW
I've got it!
DAWN
What?
WILLOW
An incantation. It will weaken the
demon. Or possibly call it forth.
LUX
Let's risk it. It's already been
called forth anyway. So, how weak
are talking?
WILLOW
Hopefully enough to eventually kill
it.
KARA
Score one for the home team! Let's
just hope it's enough.
CUT TO:
EXT. SEASIDE VILLA POOL PATIO "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kennedy, sitting in her wheelchair in the midst of
a party of sorts, watching Xander's trademark bad dancing.
She sighs and glances down at her now useless legs before
picking up a bottle of wine cooler that's on the table next
to her. We
ZOOM OUT
And see that there are two empty wine cooler bottles next to
it, presumably Kennedy's.
CAMERA ON: Xander returning from the dance floor.
XANDER
(Breathless)
Whew! Haven't had that kind of
crazy fun since"”
He cuts off, seeing Kennedy and her array of empty liquor
bottles.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Whoa, Ken, easy on the Seabreeze
there.
Kennedy hiccups and smiles. We can tell she's rather drunk.
KENNEDY
Just getting into the spirit. We're
on the sea, and there's a breeze,
and so I decided to drink
Seabreeze!
She goes to take another gulp from the bottle, but Xander
grabs it first.
XANDER
Oh, no, no more alcohol for you.
What's with the excessive
drunkenness anyway?
KENNEDY
I just needed an escape. You know,
just have some fun.
XANDER
I don't follow.
KENNEDY
Well, I can't dance, I can't swim,
I can barely do anything without
help, and"”
She begins crying drunkenly.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
I can't even do wheelies!
Xander glances at Kennedy's wheelchair and tries awkwardly to
comfort her.
XANDER
Um, maybe when we get home I can
try to help you learn.
KENNEDY
(Ignoring him)
And Willow doesn't love me anymore!
She wails. Several people at other tables turn to stare.
XANDER
Uh, Ken, why don't we go back to
the hotel?
KENNEDY
(Still wailing)
Nobody loves me! I want another
drink!
XANDER
Oh, no, no more drinks for you, Ms.
Suarez.
As Xander takes moves some half full glasses to his side of
the table, Kennedy looks in his eyes and then to his lips,
she leans over a bit, and might very well be about to kiss
him, when her wheelchair tips over. Xander is barely fast
enough to prevent her from falling. As he puts her back up,
she smiles at him.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Let's go... off to bed with you.
He stands and begins to push the wheelchair-bound Kennedy
away from the party and back toward the hotel.
CUT TO:
EXT. OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn, who is staring backwards toward the shore.
LUX
I think it's started. They're
headed for the water.
Kara looks up. Gray storms clouds are piling in quickly.
KARA
Looks like rain.
DAWN
And I didn't even bring a raincoat.
Kara cuts the engine and, for one second, everything is
quiet. But suddenly the wind picks up and the gang's
printouts blow all over the place. Willow manages to hold on
to the incantation, though. Waves begin to crash as the storm
bursts. Rain comes down in torrents.
WILLOW
The ink's gonna run!
She crouches down on the floor of the boat and holds the
printout under her, trying to shield it from the rain.
KARA
Uh, Will, now would be a good time
to start!
Willow nods and, still crouched over the paper, begins to
read:
WILLOW
La Cólera de las Ondas
Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo.
La Cólera de las Ondas
Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo.
DAWN
C'mon, keep going!
Willow continues to chant. Suddenly, a wave rocks the boat.
Kara, the only one standing up, loses her balance and falls
into the water.
KARA
Help!
DAWN
Kara!
FADE TO BLACK.

FADE TO:
OPEN SPEEDBOAT "“ EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn, running over to try and lift Kara out of the
water. Lux is right behind her. They both grab one of Kara's
arms and try to haul her out as Willow continues to chant. A
wave swamps the boat and Lux and Dawn lose their grip on
Kara.
LUX
Kara!
DAWN
Kara! Where are you?
The rain pours down harder and the waves pummel the sides of
the boat. Suddenly, we see Kara's head surface. Her eyes are
closed.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Kara!
(To Lux)
Quick, get me the life preserver.
Lux runs and grabs the life preserver. Dawn grabs it and
loops both arms through it before jumping into the churning
waters.
WILLOW
Dawn!
LUX
(To Willow)
Keep chanting! We can't afford to
have you not.
Dawn's head surfaces and she begins swimming after Kara.
WILLOW
(Frantically)
La Cólera de las Ondas
Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo.
Dawn reaches Kara and grabs her. She begins to swim back with
Kara in tow, but the current seems to be pulling the two of
them away from the boat.
DAWN
Lux! A little help!
Lux grabs the rope attaching the boat to the life preserver
and, hand over hand, begins pulling Dawn and Kara in. Willow
continues chanting.
WILLOW (SCREAMING)
La Cólera de las Ondas
Cesarà¡ como hablo
Y el mar serà¡ silencioso de nuevo!
Suddenly, as Dawn climbs into the boat, pulling Kara behind
her, a booming female voice (la Colera de las Ondas) answers
Willow's chant.
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS
You think you can beat me, little
human? I am more powerful than you
can comprehend!
WILLOW
(Coolly)
It's actually not too hard to
comprehend, seeing the world is
seventy percent water. But you
wanna know something?
She concentrates, then hold out her hands before clapping
them together. There is a tremendous boom of thunder as
Willow's power surges outwards; her hair turning the
signature white colour.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
I'm the one with the power. I'm the
one in control here. You're a big
bad sea demon.
Well, I'm the big bad witch. And I
don't think you wanna make me mad.
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS
You have nothing, you fool!
Borrowed power!
WILLOW
I'd rather have borrowed power than
none.
She holds her hands up toward the sky and chants, louder than
ever before:
WILLOW (CONT'D)
la Colera de las Ondas
CESARA COMO HABLO
Y EL MAR SERA SILENCIOSO DE NUEVO!!
There is a horrible crash of waves and a flash of lightening,
and then a light forms around Willow. It flashes outward, and
the second it touches the clouds, they are dissolved. The
rain stops and the sun shines once more. Willow falls to her
knees, breathing heavily, while Kara doesn't seem to be
breathing at all. Dawn shakes Kara.
DAWN
Kara! Kara, can you hear me?
She puts her head near Kara's mouth, listening for her
breathing. Apparently, she doesn't hear any.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Kara! Kara, wake up!
She shakes her again. Nothing happens.
LUX
Kara!
Suddenly, Kara begins to cough. She leans over to the side
and coughs up some water.
LUX (CONT'D)
Kara! Oh my god, you scared me.
DAWN
How do you feel?
KARA
Like I just got about three gallons
of water up my nose. You?
Dawn smiles.
DAWN
Something like that.
WILLOW
Uh, guys?
The TRIO follows Willow's line of vision to find themselves
staring at la Colera de las Ondas, who is corporeal and
looking pretty ticked off.
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS
Do you expect me to be impressed?
So you beat the storm. Good for
you. You haven't beaten me yet.
Behind la Colera de las Ondas, Dawn begins to sneak toward a
fire extinguisher, apparently with the intent of hitting the
demon with it. Before she's gotten far, la Colera de las
Ondas whirls around to face her and says:
LA COLERA DE LAS ONDAS (CONT'D)
Don't even think about it. You
can't trick me, little girl. I am
far more powerful than you can
imagine. The entire ocean is at my
disposal. If you think--
The demon is cut off when Kara, from her position on the
floor of the boat, kicks the demon, using both feet for the
maximum amount of force. The demon is distracted. Willow
takes advantage of the moment and whips a stake out from the
beach bag she brought onto the boat. She drives it deep into
the demon's back. La Colera de las Ondas howls in pain, just
as Dawn grabs the fire extinguisher and hits the demon with
it.
WILLOW
Suffoco!
A beach towel flies out of the beach bag and wraps itself
around la Colera de las Ondas's neck. After a few minutes, la
Colera de las Ondas falls onto the deck of the boat and lies
still.
DAWN
What are we gonna do with the body?
Just throw it overboard?
As soon as she finishes asking this, the body dissolves into
a puddle of water, then evaporates.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Guess not.
FADE TO:
INT. SEASIDE VILLA PARKING LOT "“ DAY
Xander, packing the overnight bags into the car.
CUT TO:
Lux, talking to Jeff.
LUX
Yeah, I'm sorry I missed it.
JEFF
You should've seen it. It was one
crazy storm! And we surfed it all,
no problem.
LUX
So I've heard. But, yeah, like I
said, I was watching this really
cool show on TV and I just fell
asleep. I guess I was really tired.
I didn't even wake up from the
thunder or anything.
Jeff is clearly more interested in telling Lux about his
surfing accomplishments than in hearing what she has to say.
JEFF
Yeah. So, the guys were all, "Oh,
let's not go out. It's too
dangerous", and I was like, "No
way, this'll be great!" And I was
so right. Dude, those waves were
killer!
PAN TO:
Dawn. We can still hear Lux and Jeff talking, or rather, Jeff
talking, but it's indistinct. Dawn looks like she's taking
pity on her friend.
PAN TO:
Lux and Jeff again.
JEFF (CONT'D)
And the judges though it was so
great. So afterwards, we went to"”
Dawn joins them.
DAWN
Hey, guys. Uh, Lux, Xander's kind
of ready to go.
LUX
Oh, uh, okay.
(To Jeff)
I'll see you later.
JEFF
Uh, sure. It's been great. But you
should've seen it!
LUX
Uh, sorry I missed it. Bye.
JEFF
Bye.
He leaves. Dawn and Lux pile into the car, saying as they do:
LUX
Thank you. So. Much.
DAWN
I figured I talk your ear off
enough as it is. You don't need
other people doing it, too.
CUT TO:
INT. HEMMINGWAY SUV "“ DAY
All the Scoobies are in the car again. Same positions, except
for Lux and Kara.
LUX
Did I ever mention that you're the
greatest friend in the world?
KARA
Hey!
LUX
You, too.
CUT TO:
EXT. SEASIDE VILLA PARKING LOT - DAY
Exterior view of the SUV as it pulls out of the hotel parking
lot and into the street.
DAWN (V.O.)
Hmm, greatest friend in the world,
huh? I'll have to remember that.
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ NIGHT
The scoobies arrive home after their little trip. They all
walk up to the front door (except for Kennedy, who is rolling
herself along), which XANDER unlocks. They climb the stairs.
(Xander and Willow helping Kennedy up.)
XANDER
I hope you girls aren't too tired
for school tomorrow. I know that no
one actually sleeps at a sleepover,
but for the sanity of youselves and
everyone around you--
WILLOW
Namely, us.
XANDER
Right. Get some sleep.
DAWN
Don't have to worry about me. I'm
exhausted.
KARA
Aw, I was kinda hoping we could
watch movies until three or four in
the morning.
They've reached and are now entering the living room.
DAWN
As great as that sounds, I"”
She stops talking abruptly, stunned by something she has seen
off camera. We follow her point of view and see Buffy sitting
on the couch, looking unhappy. Next to her sits AMY MADISON.
FADE TO BLACK.
