It depends a lot on the wish. Wishing Xander had never existed would have led to Buffy dying in Prophecy Girl, if not earlier. Willow possibly something similar, only for Becoming if not earlier. But even Anyanka did not know how wishes would turn out.

It's a good point that, without Xander, Buffy might have died in Prophecy Girl. But if that didn't happen, and Xander and Willow were erased from existence, Cordelia might find that Buffy was now part of the "cool girls" gang and a cheerleader, without the nerdy kids to draw her away from that set.
