who was the best for willow?

this is something i’ve been debating for awhile. i really feel like tara was willow’s true love, or soulmate even, but kennedy was just a better girlfriend in general. i cannot decide!!

Tara showed she was willing to lie to Willow and cast magic on Willow to protect herself, she does not deserve better

Tara was trying to hide the fact that she might be a demon from a group of people who literally spend all of their free time killing demons. Oz did the exact same thing when he was new to the group and becoming a werewolf, as did Angel when he initially hid the fact that he was a vampire. Tara acted out of fear she might be killed, and she broke the spell of her own free will the instant she realized it had negative consequences for anybody else.

Willow, on the other hand, mindwiped Tara multiple times for disagreeing with her and then had sex with her under those terms. Altering someone's memory after the fact is on an entirely different level than withholding information about your heritage, not to mention the whole roofie angle.

i never really thought abt any of that, maybe willow should just stay away from dating, although if i do need to choose i’m still all for willow and tara

I think a lot of them should stay away from dating. Xander was right about them being doomed, at least while on the Hellmouth.
Willow had some chemistry with Riley. With Buffy gone from Ruffy (or is it Biley?), she could have moved right in with a guy who appreciated a nice girl and treated her right. If Willow was bisexual as many people insist, they could have been a very happy couple. He had no issues with bisexuality because when they first met, he was hanging a banner for the gay - straight alliance.

Otherwise Oz, because he had the self-control to refuse to take advantage of her when she wanted to take him to bed.
 
I think Willow is going to have better relationships from Kennedy onwards because she is a better version of herself.

you know what else Oz and Angel did? They held back. They pulled away from the relationship. Willow had to bust into Oz's house to find out why he had gone cold to find out he was a werewolf to get the relationship back on track. Angel an Buffy just had awkward sexual tension before she found out Angel was a vampire. Tara went full speed ahead into the relationship. Also within a few weeks or so Tara should have known that Buffy had dated a vampire, Willow had dated a werewolf, Xander was dating an ex demon and they were letting a neutered vampire hang around, putting to rest her fears

Tara cast a spell to maintain the secret which elevates it to Willow's level. And Willow used the memory spell once and had sex with Tara several days later when Tara initiated it. The second memory spell was basically meant to cover what she was trying to do with Buffy

Multiple story ideas came to my mind while reading this.

I think it would flow better if instead of Tara having a problem over memory spells because of what Glory did to her (rather than the ethics of memory spells, not seeming to care about the implications of Dawn, etc), it would be Riley reacting as Willow became increasingly arrogant and manipulative like Walsh (where the parallel is more stark), only magic instead of science. And Willow is no slouch with the psychology and technology, either (perhaps Riley confronting Willow about mind control suddenly worried seeing how good she is with computer chips and remembering how she kept a Buffybot going).

But shipping wise...yeah, I see it much more than Buffy-Riley, she'd demand his attention that he'd be all too happy to give without a problem of female authority (until misused, and I presume as long as he gets to be the star when it came to combat), and even as a near stranger he showed Willow more compassion and understanding than her friends of many years. I could see it working...about all the good of Oz while having enough flaws and conflict (that didn't feel forced) to make stories out of. If they weathered it, I could see Riley-Willow as happily married (assuming either was actually willing to settle down rather than confront evil from the backseat).
 
Willow and therapy.

It’s not a matter of who’s good for her, all three of her love interests were great and what she needed at the time but she ended up not being good for them. If we ignore the comics then Kennedy because as @Bop said she’s a better version of herself at this point but I still think she needs therapy.
 
OTHER - All of willows relationships were problematic - on both sides. Oz-Tara-Kennedy did some pretty reprehensible stuff to Willow - as Willow did some pretty reprehensible stuff to Oz-Tara-Kennedy. Don't think any would have survived long term. Riley? For Willow, some serious & seriously long-term therapy was always in order.
