Buffy's grave, and the point of her tombstone?

I have a question, I don't know if this has been brought up before or not...

Why did Buffy have a grave and tombstone...???
I mean...weren't they supposed be keeping her death a secret.

Didn't Giles say in the very first part of The Barganing that both the above world and the underworld couldn't know about Buffy's death...so then....what was the point of advertising it to the world with a public grave and tombstone...???
Just wondering...

Hmm I agree with ya on the whole they shouldn't have had a tomb stone but it was in a secluded spot so no one could find it..well that's my theory anyway lol
 
That would make sense....accept they run right past it in the middle of the graveyard...(notice it switches locations from The Bargaining pt 1 to pt2...)

I just realized this probably should've been in the season six section, but I guess it kinda pertains to both seasons...
 
I never noticed that before. I suppose the writters were hoping that the viewers wouldn't pick up on it either. Like Joan said though, the tomb wasn't in a graveyard and the scoobies were using the Buffybot as a substitue for the real Buffy. So as long as the demons were fighting the Buffybot and Buffy was actually still being seen in public then the demons and vamps wouldn't need to look for a grave because to them the Slayer was still alive.
 
well they probably wanted to give Buffy a proper burial, and they didnt just set her grave out for the whole world to see, it was probably a place that not many people ventured to in Sunnydale as we saw. It was a very peacful and beutiful place whereas demons and vampires go more into Sunnydale where their are people.

But wasn't the grave in a much more secluded place in Pt 2 then it was in Pt1, or am I just a numbskull?
 
Always thought about this...stupid scoobies.
Lets face it, I dont think they were thinking straight, I mean look at Bargaining, they tried to ressurect Buffy, but didnt think of digging to get to her coffin so she could be raised....so she wouldnt have to dig out...
 
I guess a slip-up, perhaps they could've just made a nameless grave.
 
I think the assumption we're supposed to make is the vast majority of demons and other baddies don't know Buffy is the slayer. If they did they'd be at Buffy's doorstep every night looking for trouble.

If you want to get technical, in order for a Will to be binding, you have to post an obituary in the local paper. This would mean if Dawn wanted to gain access to stuff like Joyce's insurance, they would have to post Buffy's obituary.

In other words the information was out there if you knew Buffy was the slayer. I don't think the intention was to keep the news private that Buffy was dead, only to keep it as quiet as possible, for as long as possible there was no slayer Sunnydale.
 
But that doesn't explain why they were having Buffybot dealing with real life issues concerning the Summers.
They sent Buffybot to school with Dawn for parent teacher confrences...
Okay...I can't find any quotes just this moment, but I know Giles said that neither the normal world nor the underworld knew about Buffy's death...
 
Actually I'm having a hard time defending this.

The truth is the Marti Noxon years (Season 6 and 7) are full of stuff that not only doesn't make any real world sense, often it doesn't even make Buffyverse sense. Drew Z Greenburg is one of her most used writers for cripes sakes. That should tell us all we need to know about Marti Noxon's respect for rational explanaitions.

In fact, you know what I do when I find Season 6 or 7 stuff that doesn't make sense? I just blame Noxon or Greenburg.

Yea, I'm thinking that's enough said also. And I agree with nerd4hire, Noxon doesn't make much sense alot of the time.
 
But her eps are quite nice to watch if you don't get into too much detail and hink bout all info on Buffyverse..
