I agree that Amy Acker played her part almost Illyria like, that's the first thing that popped into my mind. Also I have suspicions that she may have been a Doll herself once apon a time, hence the scars and nervous, erractic behaviour

I'm just watching it now, up to the 'I'll bet it was something great!' bit, and if I had to guess (and I love guessing), I'd guess that Echo gave her the scar (I see just the one, on her forehead). It would explain the 'standoffishness'. I may be completely wrong...

Okay, so, a little bit 'Nikita/The Assassin', a little bit 'The Pretender'. Be interesting to see how that pans out.
The mindwiping is only one half of this, though. I'm going to have a hard time watching this without wondering whose personality is behind who's eyes. In extremis, this technology could be alien and go back thousands of years, so some of the characters could be very old indeed, through switching bodies every decade or two. In addition, if someone is killed, they may not be quite as dead as we think...
