Episode Discussion 1.01 "Ghost" - Aired 2/13/09 (FOX-US)

What if.... Paul Ballard IS Alpha? And he's investigating himself? Not not really, because it was a persona that was imprinted onto him, and it was a FBI secret thing, and then something went wrong, and they couldn't pull him back out and now he really does think that he's FBI, and the reason that they can't pull him off the Dollhouse case is because he is a very cunning decoy? Kinda like Jason Bourne-ish....only without that part where he doesn't know who he is. Because he does, or he thinks he does.

Oh! I LIKE IT! Very sniffy idea!
I loved this pilot. The opening gave us a glimpse of what Caroline was going through and left a lot of questions open to keep the viewer interested. Also the ending was such a very good cliff hanger.

I liked how when Echo doesn't have any personality imprinted on her that she's very childlike, like her own personality has had chance to come out yet.

I didn't realise that Amy Acker was in the show. She seems like a very interesting character. I wonder how she got all those scars.

I'm definately hooked on this new show!
 
Ah, the joy of seeing comments by people that watch it for the first time. 🙂 Maybe I should read all old episode threads and see what people thought now that I know so much more. Might be interesting.
 
I'm yet another newbie to Dollshouse due to it just airing in the UK. I found the first episode soooo confusing and was glad I had sky+ as needed to rewind it in places and watch it again.

I thought though that it was very very good and I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Page 6 and I will go no further, because I'm worried about getting spoiled any more.

I'm just watching it now, up to the 'I'll bet it was something great!' bit, and if I had to guess (and I love guessing), I'd guess that Echo gave her the scar (I see just the one, on her forehead). It would explain the 'standoffishness'. I may be completely wrong...

Okay, so, a little bit 'Nikita/The Assassin', a little bit 'The Pretender'. Be interesting to see how that pans out.

The mindwiping is only one half of this, though. I'm going to have a hard time watching this without wondering whose personality is behind who's eyes. In extremis, this technology could be alien and go back thousands of years, so some of the characters could be very old indeed, through switching bodies every decade or two. In addition, if someone is killed, they may not be quite as dead as we think...

If you look closely it says "post added". If you make a new post withing a certain time it'll only add to the old one if no one else have posted in between. But it's nothing bad. For those who look for new posts it'll still show.

And in the meantime Blondie gave a rep. 😛 Could be worse I guess.

As for me Dollhouse is not so brilliant as Firefly for instance but it is Joss Whedon's new "child" so I give this show a chance )
 
I don't understand why a scientist who is trying to keep his "treatments" a secret would use a glass office?

I understand that part, but that's not what I'm trying to get at here.
I'm confused as to who the ghost is.
Is it the lady that Echo thinks she is or is it the pedophile?
 
I think it's meant to be both. It's ironic, like rain on your birtthday, or a free ride when you've already paid. Or is that just bad luck..?
 
I don't know if it's meant to be ironic or not, but it's starting to get under my skin.
I can't make any sense of it.

I would consider both of those luck.
 
I believe "You can't fight a ghost" was meant to refer to how when the abducted part of Ellie Penn was abducted, she couldn't fight back, because she was so small. She couldn't touch him. She could do nothing against him, and therefore he was a "ghost." And then she flipped it around, meaning it to refer to her, and how even though she wasn't supposed to be alive, she was, and he couldn't do anything to stop her.

At least, that's how I look at it.

It's been a while since I've seen this episode but didn't the guy who kidnapped Eleanor Penn, tell her he was a ghost. It was him that originally said 'you can't fight a ghost' making her think he was one and therefore there was nothing she could do?

Like I said, been a while, so might have made it up!

However, that's a very good thought!
I hope someone can answer this.
