*finally set down and watched it...how funny one of the sponsors was computer TV and its revolution....but that is for another thread.*
^^^^ to posts above.....The FBI guy being made fun of I think is a head nod to Mulder and what he went through with skeptics/other field agents on x-files.
The fella is starting to grow on me; kinda as an everyday fellow who lives in an apartment with a nice stalker neighbor who's not a top class/ elite/ mansion dwelling super agent. His illogicalness is sort Xanderesque (what I bitched about in the first thread about him pulling a gun in a bathroom) it makes him real. I think I like that, even if overall he has a very small part of the overall show thus far. He's much like xander but in his cause the Dollhouse (or better said shutting it down) is his Buffy....will he be the heart of this show too, eventually? I'll have to watch!
I definitely got a Buffy/Giles vibe from Echo and L. It has an interesting spin on it though, to make it kinda fresh...and I appreciate this. Buffy had a hard time compartmentalizing who she was, but Giles ended up as a father figure. here we see the father figure in L. represented as a growing I dare say love for Echo, who in some states is child like. Despite her imprint he see what she comes home as, and just as a dad might not like their kids young adult life choices, he does not like the way she behaves with some imprints/roles....I think thats why deep down he's such a control freak about satellite bounced back vital stats/etc! It is a different spin, but the good stepfather/daughter relationship is certainly there and as this episode shows, she's not an empty hat to him anymore just as Buffy was more than the slayer for Giles...eventually 🙂
The more this show progresses the more I am wowed, and I absolutely love a big message wrapped up in an end segment, like the shoulder pat.
If it continues as it has thus far, this is the show I've been looking for since Buffy ended.
I can't wait till next week.
Strengths: keeps you guessing and thinking about plot....I think alpha is out to make echo his mate by stress and drug induced templating. I think his pre-dollhouse self got echo involved with it from the get go and his goal is to make her as him and shut the place down.
A big bad with an agenda that is gray (though activities advancing that agenda are certainly black) The guy is striking me as The Mayor and he hasn't even spoken yet.
I could go on and on and on.....I very much am loving this show. (Its actually much easier to follow...for me anyway..than My Own Worst Enemy..another show I enjoyed. this show also has the added benefit of more variance and mystery to it.)
I love it! I'll stop now and may I add....I hope the next one doesn't suck. The better the early genius and anticipation, the more mediocrity or even minor greatness is seen as failure.
