Well I for one enjoyed the episode for the most part. But I kept on thinking "where is Echos handler?" She was put in a life or death situation and almost died, he should have been somewhere near by to keep her from dieing.
Topher and Sierra were fun.
And it was interesting how they did the whole life after death scenario.
Gotta agree. Dollhouse was fun while it lasted but 99.9% likely that this show wont return which is saddening. And its to bad that Joss wasnt able to shop this show around to other networks to possibly save it when it gets cancelled. But its just another show in Foxs long line of cancelled before they even really begun series.
Topher and Sierra were fun.
And it was interesting how they did the whole life after death scenario.

Wow, I really enjoyed this episode.
- I'm sort of confused about Paul's reaction to the recent news of Mellie being a doll. Is he turned on by it, or disturbed by it? Is he trying to fake it so she won't suspect? There's a strange dynamic going on between the two now; some sort of power-play? I'm curious to see how this plays out. I'm finding their relationship to be one of more more interesting aspects of the show. I really feel for him. He's going through a lot right now. He just got fired, just found out his GF is a doll, AND he's getting so much closer to figuring out the puzzle of the Dollhouse - but he's not there quite yet.
- Nice twist with Nick being Margaret's killer. Didn't see that coming.
- I'm liking that we're seeing a more human, emotional side of Adelle. Originally, I'd envisioned her as a more background character - but I'm pleased to see she's becoming more central. I'm fascinated to find out why and how she came to the Dollhouse, as I am for everyone who works there.
- Liking the Paul being undressed thing. 🙂 No surprise there, you all know I think he's attractive and my favorite character.
- Really liked Eliza in this episode. She played the engagement very well.
- Topher creating a fellow-geek friend for himself was touching, and makes me like his character somewhat more. So he's lonely, like the rest of them? Huh. It would make sense that working for the Dollhouse would make it difficult to sustain a healthy outside relationship, what with having to lie about your employment and what not. Plus, I imagine they work overtime quite often.
- Where's Clare?
The fact that the show is obviously just getting better makes me even more depressed at the possibility of it getting canned.

I think he's subconsciously turned on by Dolls (ie- his dream), but that's not why he slept with her. I think he slept with her to keep Mellie from getting suspicious. He seemed upset though for two reasons, one because he had to sleep with her to keep up the charade; and, also because he wound up enjoying it since Mellie is programmed to be his ideal woman.

That was a big oversight.
While I think Eliza's acting was good in this episode, I still think Margaret was written too young. Margaret didn't seem like a "rich lady" old enough to have grown up children.
I loved Sierra's and Topher's scenes, first I thought they were just for fun and had no higher purpose than comic relief but the little twist in the end with him being so lonely and just getting a friend (no sexy times, just a friend. I was expecting them to jump each other during that playing hunting... thing) for his birthday really saddened me.
I got the impression he wasn't supposed to be there. Echo wasn't on an ordinary engagement, Margaret knew perfectly well that she was dead and just in an active's body for the time being. She wouldn't of needed a handler to remind her of her treatment because she knew what was happening.

I have to admit that when I saw the promo for this episode two weeks ago, I thought that Joss was making the show go back to the stage of episodes one through four. But wow.
In my opinion, this was the third best episode of the season. "Man on the Street" is the best one, of course, followed by "Spy in the House of Love" two weeks ago, but "Haunted" definitely gets the award for one of the best episodes of the season. Especially after I saw that it was co-tri-written by Jane Espenson. 🙂
What really made this episode good, IMO, was what we found out about Topher through his programming of Sierra. When Adelle talked about how lonely he was and how she lets him program him once a year to be his best friend on his birthday, I felt so bad for him. He was so cute, and I've never seen Topher be genuinely happy and carefree and his geeky self. I know I'm supposed to be a Claire/Topher shipper (and I am), but I really like the potential Sierra/Topher friendship angle that this episode gave us. They were just so cute! And Topher's jacket in the beginning of episode was made of win. 🙂
It was nice seeing Boyd being so worried about Echo, it reminds me a lot of their father/daughter-like relationship, and it's so obvious that he can't let go. I think Boyd started to realize a lot of things about everyone in this episode, about how many walls that Adelle puts up around her so that no one can come in, and about how Topher was really a lonely person who just wanted to have a friend, but who has none.
Adelle and Margaret (Echo) in this episode made me smile. I liked their interaction, it was very rare that we get to see Adelle open up and be herself, we always see a commanding figure from her character and this was one of the few times that we got to see her be opening up.
Paul and Mellie in this episode I didn't like. I think Mellie might suspect that she's a doll, but maybe that's just me. Paul I didn't like in this episode at all. I didn't like their sex scene, it was like he was trying to get something out of her even though he knows that it's not her fault for being November or for being a Doll.
I did like his friend, though, the one who works at the FBI. She was helpful to him even though she didn't have to, and I like who she stopped being skeptical and finally started believing him when the several prints of November as different people came out. I know this is a really weird side-note, but the first print that popped up with November as "Anabeth S." looks a lot like Kristen Stewart, doesn't it? I despise Twilight, but I do have to make that connection because she reminded me of it for a second.
Sierra made me smile in this episode, she was just so cute being programmed as Topher's best friend. I really liked their football game across the Dollhouse stairs and their little laser-tag game, it was so adorable. Dichen Lachman was really good in this episode, I think that this is one of my favorite assignments that she has had so far. When Topher was giving the little speech during the laser-tag game, I was like, "Aww, Topher, you adorable little thing, this is just way too over the top." Not the laser-tag thing, since it's expected, since he's a geek, but the little talk.
Victor in this episode was very collected and cool as the horse buyer, I liked him and think that he did a good role with what he was given.
The twist with Nicholas in this episode was really expected for me. I suspected him at first, and when we were supposed to think that it was Jack, I thought that it was Nicholas. I didn't suspect him during the conversation, though, because it was just so sweet and sad. I'm a bit surprised that the New York Dollhouse was in Manhattan, I thought that it would be in New York.
I really liked seeing Will and Jocelyn open up about Margaret to Echo, it was nice seeing them open up after the death of someone that they couldn't express how much they cared about to.
My only complaint is that there was no Amy Acker this episode, she's always so good as Claire. I would've liked to see her reaction to Topher's loneliness.
Overall, a very good episode. The Dollhouse set is gorgeous, of course, and all of the actors did an amazing job.

Well, I was one of the only people who did not really enjoy the last episode (A Spy in the House of Love) so I was very pleasantly surprised with this one. I thought that Topher and Sierra worked FANTASTICALLY together. I loved their storyline, but when we found out at the end that it 'only happens once a year' and was his birthday, my heart broke a little. I am starting to like him more and more.
Eliza's performance was much better. I personally find her blank-slate, innocent state extremely cringeworthy; she just cannot pull it off. But I think she did a fantastic job of portraying this week's character.
I am glad Adelle is back to her normal self, I hated the Miss Lonleyhearts thing. It really turned me off. I personally do not think they should have deviated from her active character at all, but I do understand why they did. Also, this week her human side was evident, without being over-the-top.
Mellie/November is so adorable I can't even take it. She and Paul's scenes were very very interesting to say the least *wink*...I see him turning to the dark side. I am curious about that, though I think his 'passions' will only make him even more obsessed with finding the dollhouse. Plus, if you have seen previews for next week's episode, things are going to get extremely interesting =]

Boyd as head of security....interesting change. I like it though. And I can see him becoming even more protective of Echo now that he is not her handler anymore.

All in all, good episode. Especially because it was pretty much a stand-alone. It held my attention throughout the hour, and the acting/dialogue didn't drive me crazy this time. Looking forward to next week. I predict madness!! =]

Yes but the Handlers arent just around to make sure the dolls come back for treatment, they are basically their guardians outside of the dollhouse. They have to look after them and make sure they arent exposed or well killed. Echos new handler shouldve been around to make sure that Echos body isnt harmed (as in killed). And Adelle knew that Marg was looking for her killer so thats even more of a reason for someone to watch her to make sure she doesnt get killed.
And as far as suspending belief about imprinting a dead persons memories in an active, I was fine with it since all throughout the season they have been imprinted with other peoples personalities. And well even in real life, what do really know about the soul? Take away my memories and I wouldnt be who I am, give me someone elses memories and I would be them with perhaps some differences but who knows. Its like Samantha Who? She was a totally different person before amnesia.
Also I can see why some people arent that happy with Elizas performance overall throughout the season since it just seems hard for her to change her voice and adopt another persona. I look at the actor who plays Vincent and wow can the guy pull off different accents and change his voice which helps distinguish all the different charecters he plays, same can be said about the actress who plays Sierra.
Finally got around to watching this and again I am alone in my dislike of this episode, found it one of the most boring 45 minutes or so of my life, pure rubbish, not a single interesting thing happening and it completely turned me of the show just as i was getting to like it, the only good thing was the whole topher birthday incident, sad but it made sense, made me like him a little more, on the plus said another good acting performance from eliza but sadly a very bad episode in my eyes.

I agree. This is one of my favorite episodes. A lot of people seemed to like the last one but.....you have to love the first episode that really brought a whole new way of looking at how the dolls can be used. I mean BRILLIANT. I really thought Eliza showed off her acting chops in this too, finally! I liked the dynamic beteen her and Adelle, a great way to get their two characters together. It gives me hope that they can continue to keep us interested with creative storylines....and after so much was just recently exposed, a mission story....with a twist. And Topher and Sierra! AWESOME! I want more! ha ha I love having momnets where I'm like, this is such a Joss Whedon show.

I loved this episode.
- I've always loved the whole "second chance" aspect of the Dollhouse, and although this second chance was a bit heavy-handed and less symbolic, I still enjoyed it. And the fact that Margaret had to pretty much die TWICE was very sad. Adelle grabbing her hand right before it happened...that whole scene was heartbreaking. On another note, Adelle is showing more and more of her heart every episode, which I like.
- The son-being-the-killer twist wasn't so much a twist for me. As soon as the uncle said something about him having an addiction, I figured it would be him.
- I LOVED the Topher/Sierra interaction. Definitely my favorite Sierra imprint thus far, and it really broke my heart when we found out why Topher did it, and that he does it every year. Y'know, at first glance the Dollhouse just seems to be an expensive, high-tech whorehouse (and I guess in a lot of ways it is), but I think Adelle is onto something when she hints that it's about something more. It's about loneliness, and peoples' desperate efforts to alleviate it. Humans are extremely social, and a business that provides a deep connection with another person...well, I don't know. The whole idea of the Dollhouse is seeming less sick and more beautiful, in a way.
- I agree about Echo's handler - where the heck was he? ??? Not only was there no handler, but Topher was not tracking Echo whatsoever either. Her imprint may have been a person consciously aware that they were an imprint, but she was still on a very dangerous mission and I feel like SOMEONE should have been keeping closer tabs on her.
- Mmmm, I loved Victor's imprint. Very sexy. 🙂 Yes, I have a huge crush on Victor, it's official.
- Paul Ballard and Mellie's story is heartbreaking, too. (Wow, a whole lot of heartbreak this episode!) Paul is obviously deeply conflicted. I think having sex with Mellie went way deeper than just trying to keep up the facade of being her unsuspecting boyfriend. He'd proven all along that he was very distracted by the thought of the Dollhouse...not having sex with her, or being distant from her, would not sound the alarms that he was onto the Dollhouse. He WANTED her, even knowing what she was. Maybe especially knowing what she was. He did become a client in that moment, one of the very people he had been chalking up to immoral rapists and pathetic lonely millionaires. This storyline is increasingly fascinating to me. In the beginning, I was very uninterested in Ballard - his scenes usually bored me more than the others - but now I find him intriguing.
- Next week's episode looks amazing, eeep!

I dont think she needs to be aware all the time, just majority. And who knows, maybe she was holding back so she could let Marg have her last moments.
And did they shut down the main room in the dollhouse so Topher could have his fun? Since it was completley dark with noone around. Or it couldve taken place at night when everyone was asleep/gone for the day...

I noticed it was a recycled 1.08 shot cause if you close you can see Echo on the lower left corner and Sierra on the top.
I really enjoyed this episode. It was a nice little stand alone and definatly tugged on the heartstrings. I saw horses and was all excited but then when ever I see horses on TV, I always pick up the things they do wrong so I was trying to ignore them.
First up, Topher is beginning to annoy me. Something about his mannerisms and way he talks is just pissing me off. I did feel bad for him, having to make himself a friend just for his birthday. But I was very glad that he didnt sleep with her, makes it cheapish somehow. I was all 'awww' when I saw the candles on his twinkie or whatever that thing was.
The idea of finishing off your life after death in another body is fantastic. I never ever would have thought that they would do something like that, but they did make it pretty clear that they wont do it again. I suspected it was the son behind the murder pretty early on, and when he stabbed the husband I was sure of it. I liked that the husband wasnt just a gold digger, it made it all the more heartbreaking. I thought Eliza did a good job with her acting. I like her blank state and can always recognise when she is in it. I love Adelle character but at times I dont think her acting is all that great, more so in the previous episode than this one, but it has made me pay more attention to her as an actor rather than character. I wish I didnt.
Paul and Mellie... well thats another hard one and also so sad. Even though Mellie is a doll, he has still fallen in love with that imprint, she is Mellie in that state. I think that is what he is really struggling with. Mellie is a person while she is imprinted, she has feelings and thoughts and isnt really a 'doll'. I cant think of the right words to say what I mean, as usual, but I think that he does really care about Mellie. When she was giving him the message previously from inside the dollhouse, she wasnt Mellie, but now she is again and he is conflicted. Even if she did hear his final line in the shower (which I doubt) I dont think that he would tell her that she is a doll, she wouldnt be able to deal with it and he knows it. Plus it wouldnt help him any unless he figures out how to deprogram her or trigger the sleeper part again.
Im not really missing Amy/Claire, I think the episode was full enough, there was no need for her just for the sake of putting her into the episode. I do wonder though if she ever gets a special friend to hang out with since she is living in the Dollhouse too. I do miss Boyd though, he is great. I also wondered where the new handler was when Echo was in danger, but with it being such an unusual job, I think Mumrik was right with that theory. Well I choose to believe it anyway.
Havent seen next weeks promo yet but I am looking forward to seeing how it is going to all end up.
First up, Topher is beginning to annoy me. Something about his mannerisms and way he talks is just pissing me off. I did feel bad for him, having to make himself a friend just for his birthday. But I was very glad that he didnt sleep with her, makes it cheapish somehow. I was all 'awww' when I saw the candles on his twinkie or whatever that thing was.
The idea of finishing off your life after death in another body is fantastic. I never ever would have thought that they would do something like that, but they did make it pretty clear that they wont do it again. I suspected it was the son behind the murder pretty early on, and when he stabbed the husband I was sure of it. I liked that the husband wasnt just a gold digger, it made it all the more heartbreaking. I thought Eliza did a good job with her acting. I like her blank state and can always recognise when she is in it. I love Adelle character but at times I dont think her acting is all that great, more so in the previous episode than this one, but it has made me pay more attention to her as an actor rather than character. I wish I didnt.
Paul and Mellie... well thats another hard one and also so sad. Even though Mellie is a doll, he has still fallen in love with that imprint, she is Mellie in that state. I think that is what he is really struggling with. Mellie is a person while she is imprinted, she has feelings and thoughts and isnt really a 'doll'. I cant think of the right words to say what I mean, as usual, but I think that he does really care about Mellie. When she was giving him the message previously from inside the dollhouse, she wasnt Mellie, but now she is again and he is conflicted. Even if she did hear his final line in the shower (which I doubt) I dont think that he would tell her that she is a doll, she wouldnt be able to deal with it and he knows it. Plus it wouldnt help him any unless he figures out how to deprogram her or trigger the sleeper part again.
Im not really missing Amy/Claire, I think the episode was full enough, there was no need for her just for the sake of putting her into the episode. I do wonder though if she ever gets a special friend to hang out with since she is living in the Dollhouse too. I do miss Boyd though, he is great. I also wondered where the new handler was when Echo was in danger, but with it being such an unusual job, I think Mumrik was right with that theory. Well I choose to believe it anyway.

A good episode. Eliza was great, and for once I have nothing bad to say about her performance. Which makes me happy. 🙂
The same can't be said for Ballard, still unbelievably dull, even when he's emotional. He bores me. If there is a second season, I would be happy to see this character go.
Again, Boyd is being under-used. Shame.
I find Topher a difficult character to like, but this was a good episode or him. Funny, sweet and surprisingly sad.
And Sierra, ah, Sierra. Love her. She keeps me watching the show.

Is it just me or is Sierra blooming better as a character than the main one, Echo???
And, BTW, 'candles on twinkie' = ouch! 😀
I like Sierra but I definitely prefer Echo. Maybe thats cos I pick up every time Sierra slips up with her accent or does something that reminds me of Katya lol. Even when she was catching the ball I flashed back to Neighbours and her playing footy in the street 😛
