10 Shows That Changed TV Since '90

Just thought I'd share. EW.com had a list of 10 shows that changed TV since '90 and "Buffy" made the list! 😀 Here's what they said about the show:

It kick-started the vampire craze in 1997, and became the model for cult shows whose influence exceeds their ratings. Buffy's dialogue was stuffed with pop culture references, a triumph of self-awareness. Scores of shows have tried to match its dense but speedy wit.

I feel like someone already posted this... either that or this is total deja-vu.

It's super cool Buffy made the list though... and it totally deserves it.

how on earth did the real world rank higher than Buffy?! seriously?! But I am glad that Lost made the cut, love that show!

I don't think they are in any particular ranking for this list. When EW ranks, it'll say, like "1.) Buffy The Vampire Slayer, 2.) Lost...etc"
 
Haaaaaaaaa nice! I was thinking, Lost better be on that list too! And it was 🙂 I'm glad BtVS was in the top 10! Both awesome shows.

Loved some of the things on the list.
Freaks and Geeks seriously is all the things it said.
Glad Buffy got so high on the list! 🙂

That makes perfect sense to me. I think Real World maybe had the most profound change on TV. Before that were there really 'reality shows?' So yeah, I can see it changing TV more than Buffy.

I agree. Even though I don't watch reality tv, those are some of the highst rated shows on TV right now, and Real world was the first of it's kind. Seminal, for sure.

I can kind of see that too. It was the first- or first really popular- reality show. And it was on MTV. And it was geared for a very sought-after demographic.

Just to reiterate, the shows are not ranked in this list 🙂 I've been on EW.com enough to know, lol 😀
 
The first shows that came to mind was Twin Peaks and X-files so I wasn't surprised to see them. Personally I wouldn't rate The real world at all as a show but since it (sadly) seem to be the starting points for reality shows you can't deny how important it was. Having Freaks and geeks on the list made me smile. Love it. As for Lost, I got tired of it even if I watched it all. But once again, it can't be denied that it was something special.

And obviously (well duh! comes to mind) I love that they mention Buffy.

Understood; but like I said, I could see it having a bigger impact on TV than many of those shows. Would drop Buffy down one and move TRW up one and the list would then be in order.

As much as I like TP I think XFiles should be at #1 due to the number of spinoffs and (failed) shows created which tied into them. Does anyone remember the one with DB Sweeny?
 
And this is exactly why I'm so surprised when I know people that have never seen Buffy! And then when I show them evidence of how popular it was (and still is) they're always surprised too.
