Ah, the episode that has the most emotionell effect on me. We do have a lot of sad moments in the show. The body makes me feel sick but the only moment that always make me teary is the umbrella scene. Yes, I´m a sucker for cheezy stuff...

I'm not a huge fan of 'The Prom' I never have been. I'm not sure if it's the over-emotional Bangel stuff or what, but it just never rated highly on my scale.
There are some moments in this ep that are some of my fave character moments, though.
The way Xander steps up and uses his roadtrip money to buy Cordelia's dress for her. I thought that was so incredibly sweet. He really does care for her, despite the fact that they're over. I loved how he kept her secret to himself and didn't tell anyone, that shows real maturity. I wonder if he always kept her secret? The Scoobs knew that Cordy was working for Angel, but I wonder if Xander ever told them why?
I love the Class Protector Award scene, Jonathan's speech was beautiful, and Buffy was so touched to get the award. Everyone seemed so surprised by it, and it was great to see everyone applauding for her and her friends looking so proud of her. Even Cordelia seemed happy for her, lol.
Hey, does anyone ever wonder who was crownd Prom Queen? Cordy and Buffy lobbied so hard for Homecoming Queen, yet we never find out who was Prom Queen...
...is it wrong that, even now, I wanted Cordy and Xander to win? lol

as much as i love xanders look as he goes in to tease cordy in the shop, i love him even more for being humble about the dress buying and awww how sweet he looks as he tells her she looks good "duh!"

The Prom: Probably one of my favourite episodes on the show, hands down. I always saw season 3 as the season where the characters really grew up past those "carefree" teenagers that we met in season one, a milestone. With each episode that passed, they learned not only more and more about the supernatural, but they were learning more about life. And this episode, for me, really showed a lot of maturity on their part.
Xander: As was mentioned, he gave up all of his savings so that Cordelia could have a real prom dress. He had always had a big heart but that was one of those acts that I don't think Cordelia would ever forget, and he did it without asking anything in return. There were no rekindling of relationships, no Cordelia sticking around after all: it was just one act of kindness from one person to another. And that's something worth talking about.
Anya: She asked Xander to to the Prom, the man-hater who brought hellish demises to people just like Xander for hundreds of years actually gave into her feelings and went out on a limb. This was one of the first times we really saw a "break" in her anti-human exterior.
Angel: Angel, as much as I hate the breakup, did grow up in his own way in this episode. He loved Buffy more than anything in the world, and he ended it so that she would have (what he saw) as a true chance at a real future. He willingly gave up the girl that had changed his life so that she could live hers freely, and stuck by his decision. And because of that decision he started to grow into the man (lack of heartbeat aside) that we see in ATS, it was the first step.
Buffy: At the end of the episode, her "I understand" line said it all for me. Like was the case with Xander's gift to Cordelia, Angel came to the prom because he knew how important it was to her and wanted to give her that high school moment that she deserved-- it didn't mean that they were back together. When he showed up and tried to tell her all of that and what got me is that he didn't really have to. She understood why he was there and for a teenaged girl, who just got dumped, and is now staring at her ex-boyfriend who miraculously came to her prom for her: that's HUGE. Especially after how she reacted to the breakup (in the scene with Willow and in her encounter with Angel) I wouldn't have expected that reaction. She was so calm, so thankful to see him there boyfriend or not. She just enjoyed the moment for what it was, rather than making a drama out of it or assuming that all was sunshine and rainbows again. It shows an edge of maturity that I'm not sure she would have had three years before that episode.
The Student Body: Like Giles said "[He] had no idea that children en mass could be gracious". The population of Sunnydale has a knack for ignoring the things that go bump in the night, but that class stood up and thanked the person that had made all those nightmares dissapear. Not only were they gracious, but they acknowleged that those things existed in the process. Which is something that even the ADULTS in Sunnydale never seemed to do!
And I liked too how this episode showed the other side to prom in Andrew's brother; the people who don't have a date and maybe prom isn't so great for them. You don't often see that on TV and they acknowleged that in a very "sneaky" way. And some of the lines that Giles had put me in stitches, he
And come on, that dance at the end was ADORABLE! Buffy, Angel, two lovers who are torn apart dancing one last time at PROM to "Wild Horses", what more do you people want? 😉

I'm not a huge Bangel or anything, I like every relationship on the show (except Willow and Kennedy, obviously😉) but I loved this episode so much. The talk in the sewer is so heartbreaking, Marti Noxon always writes the most beautiful scripts.
The actual prom part of the ep is my favourite. Everything about those scenes are perfect. Seeing Xander and Anya together for the first time (Anya's little 'this isn't bad' is so sweet), Cordelia saying thank you to Xander, Buffy and the umberella, and finally, seeing Angel standing in the doorway for Buffy.🙂
And that final shot of seeing everyone dancing together is great. One of the things that really gets me is seeing Jonathon there, dancing at the prom. He's just in the background, as usual, sort of looking at Buffy. I don't know, but considering what we know later, I find it kinda sad.

We don't get much monster action in it. Instead it's a very emotional episode that touches even me.
It also have a very season finale feeling I think.
Wouldn't mind a season ending with the prom and with everyone dancing and being quite happy, for a short moment anyway. At least until reality comes back to them.
The Class Protector award is wonderful.
Poor Buffy doesn't get much recognition for all her hard work. So when she finally does it makes it even better and sweeter.
I have a random favorite line from this episode.
Buffy: Couldn't we just let this be the vamp that got away? We could say he was this big. (Holds hands apart)
Not sure why, but I always loved it.
Buffy seems to be so carefree and in a good mood, which I like even though it never stays for long. 🙂
Another favorite is classic Buffy and a great example of what makes the show great imho.
Buffy: You guys are going to have a prom. The kind of prom that everyone should have. I'm going to give you all a nice, fun, normal evening if I have to kill every single person on the face of the earth to do it.

Where do I start , well I love this ep , it gets me everytime I watch it, mainly because it seemed like the end but hooray it wasn't woot woot.
The whole Buffy and Angel wedding scene scares me .

Angel was great in his own show but I didn't like him in Buffy. So, I was kinda happy that Buffy and Angel finally broke up. Both characters were able to develop more imo and they both became more interesting characters after the break up. It was a nice touch that Angel showed up for one last dance, though. I also liked the class protector award.

... the umbrella scene is a brilliantly cheesy scene, and in some ways, is more of a perfect capper to Buffy's high school years before we move on to the graduation ceremony. Giles' "blueberry scone" line is a delight. 😀

Yep, I love this episode. I'm always a sucker for seeing people all dressed up and this episode is always the one I think of.

Oh god, I LOVED Wesley in this ep, he was hilairious. Oh And Giles "She's 18...and you have the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone, just have at it and stop fluttering about" I LOVE that line. ah. Oh, and the Bangel stuff got me a little teary. I love Jonothan's speech, go Jonothan!!!!!

I love this episode. It always makes me teary, between "Angel's leaving me," the Class Protector award, and Angel showing up at the prom anyway. That was incredibly sweet, though I wish he'd kept his mouth shut about "it's just for tonight." Can't you let Buffy just be happy for a few minutes, ya jerk?

This is the only episode of BTVS besides The Body that makes me cry more than once. When Buffy breaks down to Willow and says "I feel like I can't breathe" I just start bawling...SMG pulled that off so well. And if you can watch the Class Protector Award scene without getting misty-eyed then you need a soul...

He breaks my heart when he break up with her. What her mother did, that wasn't wright, I will never forgive her, and I'm sorry Buffy never found out about that. When she cries after talking with Will, that is so emotive scene, and I'm so sad for her 🙁 but when he comes to the prom dance, that's nice, but also little sad. Bangel is gone there, and that's.. well sad. Whole episode is sad 🙁
